Background. Since nurses are considered a role model in society, they should have sufficient knowledge, attitude, and practice in the field of oral hygiene. This study was aimed to assess the nurses’ knowledge, practice, and attitude towards toothbrush maintenance and use. Methods. In this cross-sectional study, 325 nurses working in hospitals affiliated to Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences were randomly recruited. Data collection tools included a demographic information form and a researcher-made questionnaire on knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding toothbrush maintenance and use. Data were analyzed by SPSS software using descriptive and inferential statistics (Mann–Whitney U and Kruskal–Wallis H). Results. The mean scores of nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and practice were 59.2 ± 16.4, 64.2 ± 20.6, and 51.4 ± 17.0 out of 100, respectively. There was no statistically significant relation between nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and practice and their gender, age, level of education, and work experience. Conclusions. Nurses had moderate knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding toothbrush maintenance and use, which is not very desirable given their role model. Therefore, training courses are recommended to be held to increase the nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding toothbrush maintenance and use.

Abstract Background Peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs) are the most widely used intravenous treatment tools for hospitalized patients. Compared to adult patients, PIVC fixation issues are more likely to occur in pediatric patients and can be more complex. However, research on PIVC fixation in pediatric patients is rare. This study aimed to investigate the pass rate for PIVC fixation in pediatric patients and the factors that influence pediatric nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) concerning PIVC fixation. Methods An on-site investigation using a self-designed PIVC fixation standard inspection checklist for first insertion and routine maintenance in pediatric patients and a follow-up questionnaire survey investigating pediatric nurses’ KAP concerning PIVC fixation was conducted in a hospital in China between November 1 and December 31, 2019. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Results The pass rate for PIVC fixation in pediatric patients was 52.02%. The pediatric nurses’ knowledge, attitude and practice scores on PIVC fixation were 7.2 ± 1.36, 28.03 ± 2.42, and 31.73 ± 2.94, respectively. The multivariate linear regression analysis results show that department (where nurses are working in) and job position are the factors that influence knowledge score (B > 0, P < 0.05); department is also a factor that influences attitude score (B > 0, P < 0.05); and department and nursing hierarchy are the factors that influence practice score (B > 0, P < 0.05). Conclusion PIVC fixation in pediatric patients is affected by multiple factors. The level of pediatric nurses’ KAP on PIVC fixation needs to be improved. It is suggested that guidelines for PIVC fixation in pediatric patients be formulated and that training on PIVC fixation in pediatric patients be provided for pediatric nurses in an effort to raise the pass rate in terms of PIVC fixation in pediatric patients.

Context: All over the world, the increased awareness of the importance of early diagnosis of genetic diseases has given them priority in primary health care. However, more recent surveys indicate that genetics content is still lacking in nursing curricula. Aim: Evaluate the effect of educational empowerment on student nurses' knowledge, practice, and attitude toward genomic counseling. Methods: Quasi-experimental (pre/posttest) design was utilized to collect the data of this study. The study was conducted at the Faculty of Nursing affiliated to Ain Shams University. The subjects were all available adolescent nursing students who enrolled in the pediatric and obstetric course in the third year. The study sample was composed of 340 nursing students. Researchers used a self-administered questionnaire that includes characteristics of subjects and the assessment of knowledge, attitude, and practice of students. Results: 47.65% of the studied students had poor knowledge at the pre-educational program phase. In comparison, 55.88% had good knowledge at the post educational program, with a highly significant difference at p-value <0.01. There was a highly significant difference between studied students' attitudes toward genetic disease, health history benefits, genetic examination benefits, genomic counseling, follow-up, and decision-making process domains at pre and post-educational program at p-value <0.001. Also, the results reveal that 79.41% of studied students had unsatisfactory practice at the pre-educational program, while 70.59% of them had satisfactory practice at post educational program. There was a highly positive correlation between knowledge, practice, and attitude of studied students about genomic counseling at the pre-educational program. Conclusion: Educational empowerment positively affected adolescent nursing students' knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding genomic counseling. The study recommended continuous training for adolescent nursing students about genetic counseling to prepare them for their future roles. Future studies are needed to examine the relationship between knowledge, attitude, and practice of adolescent nursing students regarding genomic counseling.
