In view of the problems of long coating time, complicated manual operation, high multi-seed rate of coated seeds, low qualified rate, and low degree of automation of control equipment in traditional rotary coating machine, a new type of rotary coating machine was designed while using LabVIEW with a complete electric control system, which can effectively improve the speed and quality of coating. The system uses single-chip microcomputer as the lower computer, LabVIEW as the upper computer, and uses programming electronic control technology to set seed coating parameters in advance, precisely control each part and achieve precise supply. Batch supply of powder and liquid greatly improves the automation and intelligence of the operating system, improves the coating efficiency, reduces the multi-seed rate and the seedless rate, and increases the coating pass rate. In order to improve the coating quality and the supply accuracy of the coating machine, the error analysis and calibration test of the seed supply system, powder supply system and liquid supply system were carried out. After the test verification, the supply error was controlled within 2% to meet the demand for precise supply. The test results show that the pass rate of the seeds coated by the new rotary coating machine is increased by 15% to 20% compared with the seeds coated by the traditional manual coating.

Background and objective: The NCLEX pass rate is considered the primary indicator of program quality. Much literature exists regarding pre-graduation efforts aimed at aiding students to prepare for the NCLEX-RN exam, while there is little available on post-graduation efforts. This project was conducted to identify the post-graduation experiences of successful NCLEX-RN test takers as they prepared to complete the exam. Methods: This was a qualitative descriptive study utilizing a phenomenological framework to determine the lived experience of new graduates preparing to complete the NCLEX-RN exam. Results: Four main themes were identified as relevant to post graduation experiences including: (a) Finding Motivation, (b) Study Tactics, (c) Taking a Break, and (d) The Testing Experience. Additionally, few of the participants took it for granted that they were going to pass the exam, they reported wishing they had spent more time preparing, and with regard to studying, several described wishing they had started earlier. Conclusions: It will be beneficial for faculty to discuss potential strategies for success to utilize after graduation, including expectations of testing day, setting a realistic timetable to test, overcoming lack of motivation to preparation for the exam, and careful scheduling of coaching and study sessions.

Abstract We estimate the effects of student loan access on educational attainment and labor market returns in New Zealand. We exploit the introduction of a national policy mandating a 50% pass rate for student loan renewals using a regression discontinuity design. Retaining loan access increases re-enrollment for students around the threshold, and a majority eventually graduate with a bachelor's degree within seven years. We find that retaining student loan access leads to large labor market returns for struggling students. The additional debt from further borrowing is both small relative to the earnings returns and declines quickly due to faster repayment.

Abstract In this work, the AAPM Medical Physics Practice Guideline 5.a (MPPG 5.a) validation tests package was used to evaluate the dosimetric performance of a new version of the Eclipse treatment planning system (TPS) algorithms. A series of tests were developed and comparisons between TPS calculated and corresponding beam data measurements have been performed for basic beam validation, heterogeneity correction and IMRT/VMAT dose validation tests. Measurements were performed using a Varian IX Linear Accelerator with the 6 MV, 6MV FFF and 18 MV photon beams, and 6, 9, 12, 16, 20 MeV electron beams. Results for basic dose validation tests yielded differences within 3% for all point doses and pass rate greater than 95% for all depth profiles using 3%/3mm criteria. For testing the ability of the TPS in accounting for tissue inhomogeneity, corresponding comparisons were performed with the presence of a heterogeneous media to simulate an air inhomogeneity. Results showed a mean deviation between the TPS calculated and measured of 1.9%, reaching a maximum of 2.8% for the AAA algorithm. For IMRT/VMAT validation tests, our local criteria passing rate of 95% was used, but no consensus of the tolerance exists. Our results agree well with the data reported accuracy in previous studies of Eclipse TPS. In summary, the AAPM MPPG 5.a validation tests are a valuable package for evaluating dose calculation accuracy and are very useful for TPS upgrade checks, commissioning tests and routine TPS QA.

Abstract High-speed wired drill pipe and its corresponding communication technology not only can achieve high-speed transmission rate and high-capacity, but also can realize real-time monitoring and dual-way communication in whole section, which can prevent downhole problems effectively. As a series system, the homogeneity and robustness of these wired drill pipes are crucial. This paper focuses on how to overcome the difficulty in manufacturing process of information drill pipe and complete the validation test. In order to guarantee the quality of information drill pipe and satisfy the technological requirements of mass production, we optimize the manufacturing process and put forward reasonable test techniques. The optimizations of manufacturing process include the analysis on constant tension of pressure pipe, quantitative cutting pipe and perforation in pipe nozzle. The testing techniques includes magnetic coupling coil impedance test, high pressure test, communication performance test of both single pipe and series system. The test result can be judged and evaluated by the attenuation value of the signal attenuation test and the signal reflection waveform as well as sealing reliability. With the help of the optimization of the manufacturing process and the application of new tooling, the quality and robustness of information drill pipe is improved obviously. Pass rate in primary assembly is increased from 70% to 92%. After the second assembly, pass rate can be increased to 99.5%. Besides, the work efficiency is greatly improved and the process requirements of mass production are satisfied. The validation test can screen out the drill pipe with poor quality and performance effectively thus to improve the reliability of the whole system. By means of the improvement of manufacturing and the validation test, the comprehensive pass rate of information drill pipes is increased from 84% to 95%. During three field tests in Jilin and Daqing Oilfield, the information drill pipes functioned well and accomplished all the test tasks successfully. High-speed wired drill pipe can improve the downhole data transmission on a large margin. The theorical transmission rate can be up to 100 kbps, 10,000 times as much as the traditional mud impulse telemetry. The manufacturing optimization and test technology can guarantee the performance and realize downhole data highway.

Abstract Objective: A multi-discriminator-based cycle generative adversarial network (MD-CycleGAN) model was proposed to synthesize higher-quality pseudo-CT from MRI. Approach: The MRI and CT images obtained at the simulation stage with cervical cancer were selected to train the model. The generator adopted the DenseNet as the main architecture. The local and global discriminators based on convolutional neural network jointly discriminated the authenticity of the input image data. In the testing phase, the model was verified by four-fold cross-validation method. In the prediction stage, the data were selected to evaluate the accuracy of the pseudo-CT in anatomy and dosimetry, and they were compared with the pseudo-CT synthesized by GAN with generator based on the architectures of ResNet, sU-Net, and FCN. Main results: There are significant differences(P<0.05) in the four-fold-cross validation results on peak signal-to-noise ratio and structural similarity index metrics between the pseudo-CT obtained based on MD-CycleGAN and the ground truth CT (CTgt). The pseudo-CT synthesized by MD-CycleGAN had closer anatomical information to the CTgt with root mean square error of 47.83±2.92 HU and normalized mutual information value of 0.9014±0.0212 and mean absolute error value of 46.79±2.76 HU. The differences in dose distribution between the pseudo-CT obtained by MD-CycleGAN and the CTgt were minimal. The mean absolute dose errors of Dosemax, Dosemin and Dosemean based on the planning target volume were used to evaluate the dose uncertainty of the four pseudo-CT. The u-values of the Wilcoxon test were 55.407, 41.82 and 56.208, and the differences were statistically significant. The 2%/2 mm-based gamma pass rate (%) of the proposed method was 95.45±1.91, and the comparison methods (ResNet_GAN, sUnet_GAN and FCN_GAN) were 93.33±1.20, 89.64±1.63 and 87.31±1.94, respectively. Significance: The pseudo-CT obtained based on MD-CycleGAN have higher imaging quality and are closer to the CTgt in terms of anatomy and dosimetry than other GAN models.

Abstract The weather patterns in Taiwan have been more changeable in recent years. Taking rainfall as an example, natural disasters that lead to major damage are often caused by heavy rainfall in a short period of time. Therefore, how to effectively predict changes in weather patterns has become an important issue for the development of disaster prevention technology. In this paper, an AI-based query system using a convolutional auto-encoder is developed for historical weather radar reflectivity retrieval that is expected to forecast heavy rainfall soon. When the weather radar receives a current radar reflectivity, meteorologists can employ the query system to quickly search for the historical radar reflectivity with the weather characteristics similar to the one to be queried. The experimental results reveal that under the given MSE threshold of 58,000, the average pass rate achieves 83.9% for the ranked top 10 similar results from 33,461 historical records via 4,319 query tests in total. Without considering the model loading time of 60 seconds, the execution time of each query requires 6 seconds for only listing query results or 8 seconds for including saving resulting maps in pseudo-colour.

Objective Newborn hearing screening can identify congenital deafness and hearing loss. The current status of newborn hearing screening in the south of China is unclear. We aimed to assess the hearing loss of newborns in Dongguan, China. Methods A total of 62,545 newborns were enrolled in this retrospective, cross-sectional study between September 2015 and August 2020. The screening procedure was carried out using a two-step hearing screening. The trends were examined by the Cochran–Armitage trend test. Results From 2015 to 2020, the total initial newborn hearing screening rate was 98.16%, and it significantly increased over time (Z = 2.488). The initial screening pass rate of newborns was 90.08%, and no significant difference was observed in the initial screening pass rate between different years (Z = 0.845). After two-step hearing screening, the overall hearing screening pass rate of newborns was 94.65%. The overall hearing screening pass rate in normal newborns was higher than that in high-risk newborns (95.70% vs. 93.59%). Conclusion The initial newborn hearing screening rate increased yearly in the study period, but there was still an approximately 10% referral rate. The initial screening pass rate in China needs to be further improved.

Abstract Despite the growing population of older adults, the geriatrics workforce has not similarly expanded. The number of geriatrics fellows has declined by 14.3% from 2012-2017. Implementation of innovative training programs may improve this reality. In 2002, the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) created the first four-year combined medicine residency and geriatrics fellowship (Med-Ger). Similar programs are currently being developed. The aim of this study is to describe the outcomes of the MCW Med-Ger program. Primary endpoints: American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) pass rates, ABIM Geriatric Medicine Certification pass rates, fellowship completion rates, and geriatric-focused practice. Results: There was a Med-Ger program fill rate of 73.7% (n=38). There was equivalent ABIM pass rate of 100% between Med-Ger graduates (n=18) and traditional graduates (n=25). Med-Ger trainees were more likely to complete their geriatrics fellowship (94.4% vs. 88%) and practice in geriatric-focused careers (82.4% vs. 68.2%). These outcomes suggest the benefit of a combined program for training future geriatricians. The MCW Med-Ger fill rate exceeds the national geriatrics fellowship fill rate of under 50%. Additionally, graduates may be more likely to practice geriatric medicine. This may help address population needs for an increased geriatrics workforce. In 2020, the ACGME approved an Advancing Innovation in Residency Education (AIRE) Medicine-Geriatrics Integrated Residency and Fellowship national pilot program. Further investigation of why trainees choose Med-Ger training and are more likely to continue with careers in geriatrics is needed in order to replicate the success of the MCW Med-Ger program.
