Two new imidazole ionic liquid salts, 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([AMIM]Cl) and 1-allyl-3-methy-imidazolium hydrogen sulfate ([EMIM]HSO4), were synthesized with direct synthesis and two-step synthesis method, using a viscosity meter, PH meter, conductivity meter, densitometer, infrared spectrometer determined its chemical structure and properties. The results show that two ionic liquids in the range is slightly different, the trend is roughly same. As the temperature increases, the viscosity decreases, PH gradually increased, the density decreases slightly, can be regarded as constant, the conductivity gradually increased. Ionic liquids of the two IR spectra analysis show its structure and synthetic route consistent with the structure of matter.

Ionic liquids (ILs) are widely used as reaction and separation media in many technologies due to their unique and advantageous physicochemical properties. Thus, further studies approaching the study of the toxicity of these materials are required. Moreover, they are utilized in devices in which microorganisms such as Shewanella sp. act as biocatalysts. Thus, in this work, the toxicity of 69 ILs on the marine bacterium Shewanella sp. was tested. Specifically, the ILs analyzed were based on the cations imidazolium, pyridinium, pyrrolidinium, piperidinium, morpholinium, oxazolinium, phosphonium, ammonium, and sulfonium, in combination with different anions. The toxicities of this wide group of ILs on Shewanella sp. were determined using two methods: 1) the agar disk-diffusion test and 2) the growth inhibition test in liquid media. The relationship between toxicity and IL chemical structure was elucidated. A decrease in the hydrophobicity of the alkyl chain length was found to be a key factor to reduce IL toxicity. On the other hand, phosphonium-based ILs containing long alkyl chains were shown to be largely incompatible with Shewanella sp.

Some results of tests of the thermal stability (and volatility) of selected ionic liquids pondered as lubricating substances in comparison with typical lubricating, mineral and synthetic oils, are presented in the article. The research was carried out within the framework of PBR/15–249/2007/WAT–OR00002904 Research Project Financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, during 2007–2011 [1]. The obtained results confirmed high thermal resistance of ionic liquids. It makes it possible to use the liquids as high temperature lubricating substances. At the same time, it has been stated that the thermal resistance of ionic liquids depends on the composition and chemical structure of anion and cation.

A series of protic ionic liquids (PILs) are prepared by neutralisation of bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide acid (H[NTf2]) with various amines, and the properties (especially thermal stability and ionicity) are compared with those of PILs from 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]-7-undecene (DBU) and various acids.

Every year 23 % of the world energy consumption is caused by friction and wear. Especially now and in future bearings and gear boxes will be exposed to electrical currents so lubricants have to prevent the components from new damage mechanism. The usage of Ionic Liquids as conductible lubricant additives is in discussion for a longer period of time, but right now it was not investigated how these liquids could be affect by electrical currents itself. Generally, lubricants in industry are compounded by base oils, additives, and thickeners. All these ingredients are isolators and not able to discharge electrical currents. In these joint research project, different Ionic Liquids with different conductivities have been exposed to defined electrical currents. For that experiments a new current feed setup has been developed, where the liquids and model lubricants were exposed to electrical currents under temperature control. The influence on the liquids by the current feed was chemically quantified by using IR-Spectroscopy, rheology and conductivity measurements. The Ionic Liquids react, depending on their chemical structure, very different on the current feeds, some of them has been destroyed totally.

Three kinds of functionalized imidazolium ionic liquid, 1-chloride (2-hydroxyethyl) -3-methyl imidazole ionic liquid [HeMIM]Cl, 1-bromide ethylamine-3-methyl imidazolium ionic liquid [AeMIM]Br and chlorinated 1-carboxyethyl-3-methyl imidazolium ionic liquid [CeMIM]Cl, were synthesized firstly. Subsequently, three kinds of supported silicon imidazolium ionic liquids were prepared from above ionic liquids with tetraethoxysilane by sol-gel method. The Chemical structure and crystal structure of the supported on silica based ionic liquids were analyzed by FTIR and XRD.
