The Relationship

The aim of this research was to discover the relationship between teachers’ and students’ beliefs in mathematics. The sample consisted of two mathematics teachers, twenty eight students from 10th grade natural science 6 (X IPA 6) and twenty eight students from 10th grade natural science 10 (X IPA10) at state senior high school 5 Semarang. The data were collected from questionnaires and guided interviews on beliefs about mathematics. The research results showed that both of the mathematics teachers had platonist beliefs. It was found specifically that 4.76% of students in class X IPA 6 consistently had instrumentalist beliefs, 85.71% were consistent with their platonist beliefs, and 9.52% consistently had problem solving beliefs; while in class X IPA 10, 4.76% consistently showed instrumentalist beliefs, 80.95% were consistent with their platonist beliefs, and 14.29% consistently had problem solving beliefs. This indicates that there is a relationship between teachers’ and students’ beliefs, namely the tendency towards platonist beliefs; and also that the teacher’s beliefs influence the student’s beliefs.

For several years now, I have been asked to share with junior and senior high school mathematics teachers in North Carolina ways to improve students' reading comprehension of word problems. My work with teachers and students has given me the opportunity to field-test several strategies for improving reading skills. One such strategy uses comprehension guides (Earle 1976; Herber 1978).

Most students experience different levels of difficulties in learning mathematics. TIMSS results have shown that most students in Ghana do not perform well in higher level tasks designed to assess applications and non-routine problems. This study, therefore, aimed at examining Ghanaian Junior and Senior High School mathematics teachers problem-solving strategies and their professional development needs about problem-solving. 114 mathematics teachers from 28 Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) in the Cape Coast Metropolis took part in the study. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire. The results from the study show that although teachers appreciate the importance of problem-solving in improving mathematics teaching and learning, there has not been the needed problem-solving training to support teachers in this regard. The researcher, therefore, argue that despite the numerous advantages associated with problem-solving strategy of teaching and learning, continuous professional development training for teachers should be paramount in our quest for helping students develop problem solving skills. Ghanaian JHS and SHS students can be in a disadvantageous position as they compete with their peers from other countries in international comparison examinations if our teachers are not given the needed support to become proficient in the use of problem-solving strategies in the classrooms.

The Relationship

This research aims to get a description about the mastery of the mathematics materials and the ability in writing the mathematical solution among mathematics teachers of senior high school in Pontianak and the relationship between them. This research is a descriptive research through document and result analysis of Uji Kompetensi Profesional Guru (UKPG) Senior High School in 2016. Materials mastery of mathematics teacher is measured by the final score and understanding of UKPGs selected questions, while the ability in writing mathematical solutions is measured by score of the writing and understanding the writing component in answering all of UKPGs essay questions. Result of this research shows that most teachers got the final score below 55.0. Most mathematics teachers got the score below 47.5 in writing up solution. Discipline in class is essential. Without it the educational processes and teachings are difficult. In this manner curricula goals are almost impossible to achieve. There are and there always will be some kind of conflicts between teachers and students, but they should not evolve to become a problem. Teachers (especially elderly teachers) often express pessimism of contemporary students. They say that today's students have less knowledge, they do misbehave more often than previous generations. A study among students was conducted. It was trying to determine the rate of discipline in schools in Celje to see if these statements are true. The questionnaire to students of one primary and one high school in Celje, Slovenia were distributed. The answers from 234 students were received. On the one hand, it was found out that senior high school students have the worst level of discipline of all the grades tested. They themselves assess their class atmosphere as less disciplined. They report that teachers use a lot of time to calm the class down. All this is probably a factor in lower average grade that the senior high school students have. On the other hand, it was found out that teachers do not react to the disturbance or they are trying to be repressive. These are not the correct ways of dealing with discipline issues. Therefore, there are some recommended ways how teachers should react. Keywords: discipline in class, primary school, contemporary student, elderly teachers.

The aim of this research is to create a teaching material and method in writing poetry using lotus techniques. This research also uses research and development methods. It is research that produces certain products and the effectiveness of their use. The product that will be produced in this research is in the form of poetry writing teaching materials developed with lotus techniques for 10th grade of Senior High School students in MAS Tahfizil Medan. The results of this study indicate that 10th grade students need new methods and teaching materials in improving their understanding in writing poetry. And after testing the lotus technique is very efficient to improve students' ability to write poetry. After the posttest and pretest results the results obtained are the low category by 3.33%, the medium category by 93.34%, and the high category by 3.33%.

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted educational leaders to restructure the curriculum and modify the instructional set-up to accommodate remote learning of which using technology is the most viable solution to the existing problem. This study explores how teachers adapt and utilise technology-based teaching, and what makes students learn under blended learning modalities in Taytay Senior High School. Quantitatively, using the validated survey questionnaire anchored on the technology adaptation model and the adaptive learning environment model, this study revealed that teachers' age is the factor in all aspects of the model (performance and effort expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions). When comparing the adaptation levels of students and teachers, it showed that teachers were slightly higher than the students, and that there is a negligible correlation. The findings of this study will serve as baseline data for immediate actions for items that surfaced concerns as hindrance or factors that can hamper students’ academic performance.
