AbstractHuman activity recognition (HAR) is used to support older adults to live independently in their own homes. Once activities of daily living (ADL) are recognised, gathered information will be used to identify abnormalities in comparison with the routine activities. Ambient sensors, including occupancy sensors and door entry sensors, are often used to monitor and identify different activities. Most of the current research in HAR focuses on a single-occupant environment when only one person is monitored, and their activities are categorised. The assumption that home environments are occupied by one person all the time is often not true. It is common for a resident to receive visits from family members or health care workers, representing a multi-occupancy environment. Entropy analysis is an established method for irregularity detection in many applications; however, it has been rarely applied in the context of ADL and HAR. In this paper, a novel method based on different entropy measures, including Shannon Entropy, Permutation Entropy, and Multiscale-Permutation Entropy, is employed to investigate the effectiveness of these entropy measures in identifying visitors in a home environment. This research aims to investigate whether entropy measures can be utilised to identify a visitor in a home environment, solely based on the information collected from motion detectors [e.g., passive infra-red] and door entry sensors. The entropy measures are tested and evaluated based on a dataset gathered from a real home environment. Experimental results are presented to show the effectiveness of entropy measures to identify visitors and the time of their visits without the need for employing extra wearable sensors to tag the visitors. The results obtained from the experiments show that the proposed entropy measures could be used to detect and identify a visitor in a home environment with a high degree of accuracy.

AbstractFeeding self-care deficit is a person's inability to perform eating activities according to the proper way of eating. Activity Daily Living (ADL) therapy is one of the therapies claimed to be able to increase the patient's independence in improving how to eat. To apply Activity Daily Living (ADL) in patients with feeding self-care deficit to increase self-feeding independence. The research was a descriptive study with a case study approach conducted in the working area of Puskesmas Dukuhwaru, Tegal Regency. It was carried out on 15-17 February 2021. Data were obtained through interviews, observation and physical examination and presented in narrative form. After performed the intervention for 3 days, the results showed an increase in self-feeding independence in both subjects. It described at the third day of the research. Patients with nursing problems of feeding self-care deficit are recommended to provide ADL to increase the patient's independence. Terapi Activity Daily Living (ADL) menjadi salah satu terapi yang diyakini mampu meningkatkan kemandirian pasien dalam meningkatkan cara makan. Dapat menerapkan terapi Activity Daily Living (ADL) pada pasien defisit perawatan diri makan untuk meningkatkan kemandirian makan. Peneliti ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi kasus, lokasi studi kasus di Wilayah Puskesmas Dukuh waru Kabupaten Tegal dilakukan tanggal 15-17 Februari 2021, data diperoleh melalui wawancara, observasi dan pemeriksaan fisik. data disajikan dalam bentuk naratif. Setelah dilakukan intervensi selama 3 hari didapatkan hasil adanya peningkatkan makan pada kedua subjek penelitian yaitu dari ketergantungan makan pada awal pengkajian menjadi setelah selesai makan pada hari ketiga penelitian. Pasien dengan masalah keperawatan defisit perawatan diri makan dianjurkan untuk memberikan terapi Activity Daily Living (ADL) untuk meningkatkan kemandirian pasien dalam meningkatkan kemandirian.Kata Kunci: Activity Daily Living (ADL); Asuhan Keperawatan Jiwa; Defisit Perawatan Diri Makan

This paper presents anomaly detection in activities of daily living based on entropy measures. It is shown that the proposed approach will identify anomalies when there are visitors representing a multi-occupant environment. Residents often receive visits from family members or health care workers. Therefore, the residents’ activity is expected to be different when there is a visitor, which could be considered as an abnormal activity pattern. Identifying anomalies is essential for healthcare management, as this will enable action to avoid prospective problems early and to improve and support residents’ ability to live safely and independently in their own homes. Entropy measure analysis is an established method to detect disorder or irregularities in many applications: however, this has rarely been applied in the context of activities of daily living. An experimental evaluation is conducted to detect anomalies obtained from a real home environment. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the entropy measures employed in detecting anomalies in the resident’s activity and identifying visiting times in the same environment.

Abstract Background To our knowledge, no instrument has been developed and tested for measuring unfinished care in Norwegian nursing home settings. The Basel Extent of Rationing of Nursing Care for Nursing Homes instrument (BERNCA-NH) was developed and validated in Switzerland to measure the extent of implicit rationing of nursing care in nursing homes. The BERNCA-NH comprises a list of nursing care activities in which a care worker reports the frequency to which activities were left unfinished over the last 7 working days as a result of lack of time. The aim of this study was to adapt and modify a Norwegian version of the BERNCA-NH intended for all care workers, and assess the instruments’ psychometric properties in a Norwegian nursing home setting. Methods The BERNCA-NH was translated into Norwegian and modified to fit the Norwegian setting with inputs from individual cognitive interviews with informants from the target population. The instrument was then tested in a web-based survey with a final sample of 931 care workers in 162 nursing home units in different parts of Norway. The psychometric evaluation included score distribution, response completeness and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of a hypothesised factor structure and evaluation of internal consistency. Hypothesised relation to other variables was assessed through correlations between the subscale scores and three global ratings. Results The Norwegian version of BERNCA-NH comprised four subscales labelled: routine care, ‘when required’ care, documentation and psychosocial care. All subscales demonstrated good internal consistency. The CFA supported the four-factor structure with fit statistics indicating a robust model. There were moderate to strong bivariate associations between the BERNCA-NH subscales and the three global ratings. Three items which were not relevant for all care workers were not included in the subscales and treated as single items. Conclusions This study found good psychometric properties of the Norwegian version BERNCA-NH, assessed in a sample of care workers in Norwegian nursing homes. The results indicate that the instrument can be used to measure unfinished care in similar settings.
