AbstractAn original technology of zinc diffusion into InP via a narrow gap is described, which allows reproducible formation of p–n junctions with preset depth of doping and retained surface morphology of the doped layers. Using the proposed method, desired charge carrier distribution profiles in Zn-doped InP layers were obtained. It has been experimentally confirmed that the method of cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy allows to precision measure of the zinc diffusion depth.

In this research we have isolated and characterized natural bentonite into montmorillonite nanoparticles. ABSTRACTCharacterising the morphology of thin films for use in device applications requires the ability to study both the structure within the plane of the film, and also through its thickness. Environmental scanning electron microscopy has proved to be a fruitful technique for the study of such films both because contrast can be seen within the film without the need for staining (as is conventionally done for electron microscopy), and because cross-sectional images can be obtained without charging artefacts. The application of ESEM to a particular blend of relevance to photovoltaics is described.

A novel and inexpensive bucky gel electrode has been investigated for use as the electrode substrate for deposition of polypyrrole. The electroactive polymer membrane was successfully deposited and the surface morphology studied using scanning electron microscopy. Given the properties of the bucky gel electrode and its ability to conduct ions, this work establishes the first step towards a semi-solid ion-gating system to be used in further applications.

In this research work, porous PES membranes were initially pre-heated for certain duration of time and then surface-modified to reject the MgSO4 salt solutions through self-adsorption of polyelectrolytes. From the experimental work, higher membrane salt rejection capability can be obtained when the number of polyelectrolyte bilayers is increased. The images of the cross-sectional morphology of modified and non-modified membranes were obtained using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). All modified membranes showed relatively lower contact angle values.

CuInSe2 thin films were obtained by selenization of the Cu-In precursors in the atmosphere of Se vapour, which were prepared on stainless steel and titanium substrates by electrodeposition. The films were characterized by XRD, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The respective influences of composition, phases and surface morphology of Cu-In precursors on indium loss were investigated. The results indicate that the indium loss occurs in selenization process because of volatile In2Se arising. The indium loss is less in selenization process of Cu-In precursors contained CuIn, Cu2In and In phases.
