The shift from a population mapping to investigate the population bonus on demographic aspect enhances the economic value this study might contribute for. Indonesian population as the fourth largest number requires some policies to cope with the millennium challenges. Improving nationwide database maintains government on-going strategy to manage its population that is expected to serve all stakeholders for any quest towards economic development. The study uses mixed method with the explanatory sequential strategy. The qualitative approach is used, using social network analysis, supported by desk study, in-depth interview, focus group discussion, and literature studies. This study attempts to provide for improvement to the extant regulations on identity card, mostly electronic-KTP. Demographic bonus is an interesting topic given that the younger the population, the higher the employment demand rate will be. Having systematic database bank and access is expected to alleviate the challenge on high population growth rate in Indonesia. Besides, recommendations are addressed to the policy maker (the Government), mostly on the review or amendment of the extant regulations that might not in line with the database systematic improvements. The study is a primary thesis from a review of population law, using multidisciplinary approach, i.e. population economics (demography), legal study, and public policy that can be used as a testing basis to answer further demographic bonus from an exploration of other scientific inquiries. Keywords: demographic economy, demographic bonus, population administration law, e-ID, social network analysis

This study analyzes the legislation process of the Korean government regarding the development of the medical device industry in the perspective of the issue network. It also aims to identify the difference in network structure between conservative and progressive governments and analyze major issues and stakeholders. It examines the network structure in the legislation process of the government to develop and support the medical device industry through social network analysis (SNA). This study conducted a policy network structure analysis of the conservative and progressive governments. SNA was used for the structure analysis, using the contents of newspaper articles as the baseline data related to the medical device industry. We analyze using the 2-mode network analysis that the node centrality is determined by eigenvector centrality. The more nodes with great power (stakeholders, information, resources) it is linked to, the greater power centrality (eigenvector centrality) it will have, which indicates that it has great influence within the network. The conservative government discussed the promotion of the medical device industry led by government departments, focusing on its potential as a future growth engine. On the contrary, the progressive government tended to have fewer stakeholders and issues around the idea, shifting the stakeholders that lead the promotion of the industry from government departments to relevant interest groups, and focusing more on policy issues like transparency than on economic issues. We identify implications to legislate the relevant act by analyzing the relevant stakeholders and issues around legislation, while reinforcing the competitiveness of Korea’s medical device industry in the larger global framework. We believe that this study would comprehensively addresses the pros and cons of the government-led promotion of the medical device industry in Korea, as well as the key issues for stakeholders, which can be applicable to many other societies.

AbstractIn this study, we aim to analyze social networks in which internally displaced persons (IDPs) are involved in northeast Nigeria, after they have been displaced by the insurgency of the Boko Haram group. While IDPs usually resettle in camps operated by the government, contacts with host communities are common. We further analyze the potential that such contacts may lead to conflicts between IDPs and their host communities in the Lake Chad region. Data for this study were collected by interviewing IDPs in the Bakassi IDP camp in Maiduguri and by interviewing members of the host community in Maiduguri in close proximity to the Bakassi IDP camp. A Social Network Analysis approach was used to analyze the data, by constructing social network graphs and computing network attributes, mainly the betweenness centrality of actors. The results of the study show on the one hand a mixture of friendly and conflicting relationships between IDPs and the host community from the IDPs’ perspective, and on the other hand, only few contacts between members of the host community and IDPs in the Bakassi IDP camp, from the host community's perspective. The analysis suggests that in the context of conflict present in the Lake Chad region, IDPs and members of the host community mainly use closed networks, to keep available resources and economic opportunities within their communities. We recommend a better service delivery to IDPs but also to members of the host communities who feel neglected as more attention is given to IDPs with the distribution of humanitarian aid.

In the Viable System Approach, the firm and its environment form a complex system, modelled as a network of networks. This paper explores how some tools coming from the research on Complex Networks are applicable to the firm and its environment in the context of Business Development Plan. A brief survey of the main concepts underlying the Viable System Approach (VSA) and of the very last results attained in the Complex Network Theory (CNT) is presented, focusing on the results regarding the dynamical processes on Complex Networks. Some correspondence between the main entities in the two frameworks will be derived, to highlight the possible contribution of CNT to the government and the management of the firm as a Viable System. This paper doesn't expect to be exhaustive because of the topic complexity and the still ongoing research's work. In the business case, the Social Network Analysis tools are applied into the business reengineering process.

A nation capacity to provide clean and affordable energy is crucial for the development of its economy. Indonesia energy mix still rely heavily on fossil fuels, but a concerted effort to explore a more sustainable energy has been laid out by the government, including promoting studies and providing incentives for research in the area of sustainable energy. This paper tries to examine the trend of energy research in Indonesia, the theme of research in the field of energy and to find out which institution has conducted a rigorous research and actively producing publications in this field. The study uses data of international research publications from World of Science (WOS) during 1997-2014. Data Analysis using Social Network Analysis (SNA) with UCINET, NetDraw, and VOSViewer software. The result shows that the number of international publications on energy in Indonesia are increasing and most publications are of research collaboration with institutions from other country. Based on keywords that frequently appear which are biomass, biodiesel, and ethanol, it can be concluded that popular research theme on energy in Indonesia is renewable energy. This paper concludes with the findings on institutions with the highest rank in renewable energy publications, those are Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Institut Pertanian Bandung (IPB), and Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia/Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). Research collaborations with institutions from around the globe will improve the performance of research and development bodies in Indonesia, which will only benefit the economy in the long run.

Modular and off-site construction has garnered world-wide attention, as evidenced by the gathering momentum of construction industrialization in China. This entails a transition for stakeholders within the construction industry, as construction industrialization will alter relationships among stakeholders on a number of levels. In this research, the stakeholders involved in construction industrialization in China are identified, and the stakeholder relationships are quantified through three surveys. Based on the collected data, the stakeholder relationships are mapped and analyzed using social network analysis. The results indicate that the social network of industrialization construction is not dense and less tied, generates relatively low impacts on the behaviors of individual stakeholders; as the most influential stakeholders, the general contractor, owner, and surveyors and designers control most of the resources; due to their influence in the form of policies, the government can become an important stakeholder during the process of construction industrialization Through strengthening the policy guidance, it can attract new stakeholders for the integrated network, incubate a construction industrialization corporate group with integrated abilities of R&D, design, construction and operation, which is valuable to effectively promote the development of construction industrialization in China.

This paper describes a methodology for modeling social networks of formal communications among top authorities of the Brazilian Federal Government grounded on data available in the government official gazette (Diário Oficial da União). The text of a large number of official publications such as presidential decrees, ministerial orders and authority nominations was analyzed for identification of citations to organizations and persons. The co-occurrence of names of persons in such publications created a network of relations among such persons. An ego-network was built around the president Dilma Rousseff. Metrics of social network analysis were collected and analyzed in an exploratory fashion.

This paper examines the contribution of Elizabeth Bott's Family and Social Network to the elaboration of modern British sociology. I show that although Bott is often identified as one of the key figures in the emergence of social network analysis, this misunderstands her contribution. I show how her work drew strongly on key aspects of the research programme of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, and that it was her use of the in-depth interview, allied to an interest in probing class identities, which was to be seminal. This case study is used to show how a focus on the practical inscription techniques mobilised by social scientists can give a radically different perspective on the discipline than approaches which focus on schools of thought or ‘great men’.

Traveling in a Hakka village, the tourist can feel the culture of the Hakka in Taiwan and see traditional drama, artwork, handicrafts, and foods. The current trend in tourism planning is to incorporate online word of mouth into route design. This paper aims to examine common characteristics of Hakka village tourism development, identifying the need for planning and offering a model of the directions planning might take. It begins with big data collection of the online service and combines that with social network analysis. The results indicated that tourism planning with user's online search strategy will provide a better and more precise tour service. It is suggested that the government should set up the tour service center at the location identified as being in the structural hole of the tourism network. As cultural tourism continues to expand, big data applications will offer new opportunities and challenges to tourism planning.

It is crucial to actively encourage the development of agriculture green technology, which has been regarded as one of the most effective solutions to the environmental degradation caused by agricultural activities. However, agriculture green technology diffusion is indeed a challenging task and still faces numerous barriers. The stakeholders who can potentially deal with these barriers, however, have been overlooked by previous studies. To address these issues, social network analysis was performed to identify critical stakeholders and barriers. Their interactions in agriculture green technology diffusion were analyzed based on the literature, a questionnaire survey and expert judgments. A two-mode network and two one-mode networks were used to analyze the relationships among the identified 12 barriers and 14 stakeholders who can influence these 12 barriers identified. The results show that agricultural research institutes, universities, agribusiness, agencies of township promotion, the government and farmers’ relatives are key stakeholders and that the limited market demand for green technology and the high cost of its diffusion are two main barriers. However, poor green technology operability and farmer families in distress are factors that are not as important as previously perceived. Finally, some recommendations and suggestions are provided to promote agriculture green technology diffusion in China.
