Introduction. The article deals with the k-pop cover dance direction as one of the movements globalizing the youth environment. Nowadays, the K-pop youth subculture has reached a significant number of teenage schoolchildren with its popularity. Currently, belonging to the K-pop subculture and its dance practices are becoming integral to creating new global identities for young people. Goals. The study aims to examine the richness of K-pop components through dance culture, especially popular among school-age teenagers. Materials. The work primarily analyzes the author’s field materials with the aid of the structural/functional method, that of included observation, as well as interviews (narrative, semi-structured) with respondents. Results and Conclusions. The paper concludes that Kalmyk K-pop fans form a bi-ethnic identity in which a combination of features of both — their own and other ethnic cultures — is equally manifested. At the same time, K-pop cover dance proves the most accessible way to get socialized and develop imagination (i.e., a leisure-time activity) in present-day youth culture.

This article is based on the work of the Learning and Visitor Services Department at the Danish cultural institution known as Brandts, with a view to turning Brandts (which consists of two specialist museums and an art exhibition venue) into a place that young people between the ages of 15 and 25 actively choose to visit as a leisure-time activity. The background for this development work lies in a survey of young users and on-users conducted at Brandts in the autumn of 2010. The article links the results of this local qualitative survey with the results of other recent surveys of museum visitors in Denmark. In addition to covering the new ”action plan” for Brandts, prepared with regard to the wishes and needs of young people, the article delves deeper into the considerations that lay behind the chosen focus on young people and their opportunities for informal learning and identity development within a museum context.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the motives of young people in multicultural suburbs for participating in youth-centre activities. Design and setting: The study employed practice-based research with a focus on collaboration and methodological diversity. Data on motives for participation were collected in spring 2013 at two non-governmental organisation (NGO)-run youth centres located in the suburbs of two cities in Sweden using surveys and focus-group interviews. Method: The study used mixed methods, with qualitative data being used to help explain initial quantitative findings. Statistical analysis was conducted using measures of competence and social motives. Qualitative analysis used both deductive and inductive content analysis. Results: Study findings suggest that motives concerning competence development and socialising are insufficient to account for why young people in multicultural, socially disadvantaged suburbs participate in youth-centre activities. The study highlights the importance of additional motives influencing participation in leisure-time activities. The additional motives of ‘fun/undemanding’ and ‘support’ were found to be important to most young people in this study. Conclusion: Study findings suggest that motives for participation in youth-centre activities have to do with characteristics of the participants, of the neighbourhood in which the centre is located and the specific type of unstructured leisure-time activity. Future motive measurement scales should include items concerning socioeconomic status, activities provided and young people’s degree of influence over the activities in which they participate.

The article aims to reveal links between leisure and public holidays and the ethnic identity of young people in the formation of Lithuanian ethnic-cultural space in Vilnius and Puńsk-Sejny regions. To achieve the goal, the following objectives were established: (1) to reveal the concept of ethnic-cultural space and the possibilities for its formation, (2) to analyse the peculiarities of leisure time that brought the Lithuanians together, (3) to reveal the manifestation of ethnicity in the customs of religious festivals, and (4) to analyse the rituals of national holidays. The research showed that the features of “Lithuanian leisure” and “Lithuanian holidays” could be traced to the end of the nineteenth century and the twentieth century when they evolved in Lithuanian ethnographic areas outside the territory of the Republic of Lithuania or in Lithuania that had lost its statehood. Leisure time and holidays are a significant element of the ethnic-cultural space: whether secretly or legally, by means of the national symbols (flag, coat of arms, anthem, paintings of dukes), the language, and the social focus of the compatriots, they outline the boundaries of “Lithuanianness”, shape the ethnic identity, and enable resistance to the processes of ethnic assimilation. On the other hand, public cultural events of Lithuanian societies are also important for the modernisation of youth entertainment, initiating the cultivated communication between young people. The article is based on the material that the author collected during the fieldwork of 1988–2018 in Lithuania, Poland, and Belarus, as well as on other studies, archival sources, and publications.

This article examines the socio-economic implications that the controversial sub-culture of skhothane has on the development or underdevelopment of youth at Ekurhuleni and surrounding townships. It interrogates skhothane within the post-modern expressive youth culture. In the township(s) of Ekurhuleni, skhothane is regarded not only as a controversial sub-culture but also as a lifestyle whereby young people compete in acquiring material goods with the ultimate purpose of destroying them. This practice co-exists alongside youth unemployment and underdevelopment which is exacerbated by poverty, rising unemployment and gross inequalities. The author argues that the practice of skhothane sub-culture does not only undermine the policies and programmes aimed at the socio-economic upliftment of young people, but turns the youth into materialistic consumers. In this article, young people are viewed as victims of post-modern lifestyles who are socialised under an intergenerational culture of poverty and underdevelopment. It uses primary data from selected interviews with skhothane members and general members of local communities and secondary sources from books, accredited journals and newspapers.

ABSTRACT The focus of this article is the concept of extreme, from Massimo Canevacci, author, whose innovative ideas, and why not say radicals, have brought good contributions to research on youth, at the interface communication / culture / consumption in the contemporary world. It is also a perspective in full discussion. Because the thematic youth, highlighted in countless researches, studies, countless articles, essays and books that are increasingly proliferating, given their increasing relevance, has been approached from the perspective of several fields of knowledge, generating multiple possibilities of perception and theorizing. At the limit of this work, we remain here in this justification to dedicate ourselves specifically to the concept of eXtreme and because it is a key element in the discussions that we are proposing in our ongoing research about youth, culture in postmodernity and the challenges to education.   KEYWORDS: Youth; postmodernity; education. Abstract. Soccer’s current social impact makes it a very powerful tool for the comprehensive training of those minors who come to practice it. It is especially valuable among young people of school age, who may otherwise lose motivation and begin to frequent places that lead them away from their studies. For young people with their dreams, soccer can focus their attention and contribute to their overall education. In this work, we present the results of a program carried out with three soccer teams in the city of Cádiz, Spain. For each team, we analyzed six aspects of interest from the comprehensive training program of the players: academic training; fair play; health, hygiene and nutrition; training for coaching staff; training for parents and social responsibility. The experience was relevant and positive for players, parents, and teams. The results were very encouraging. The interest on the part of the team officials, players, and parents was clear.
