The objective of the research was to know the description of how critical thinking skill can be optimized in teaching writing using peer editing technique.  Critical thinking skill should be strengthened in writing class to elicit the writing class problem. Applying peer teaching technique was assumed can optimize the critical thinking skill in writing class. This research used descriptive qualitative method. It was conducted to the students of English Education Department students in paragraph based writing class. The writer took one of six classes as the sample of the research. The researcher used observation and documentation to know the description of the class situation. The data which was collected are in form documentation, observation and interview result and students writing and peer editing form which is analyzed descriptively. After the research conducted it can be drawn a conclusion that teaching writing using peer editing can optimize the students’ critical thinking skill. It was proven with the minimal error that was produced in the next writing produced and the increasing score of students’ writing. The mean score in the pre-research was 68.62, after the treatment conducted the mean score increased up to 72.90.

Critical thinking has been acknowledged essential in education field but there have been debates on unclear instruction in implementing critical thinking skill in the classroom. Due to the urgency on the needs of critical thinking skill cultivation, this research aims to investigate the implementation of critical thinking skill instructional strategies in Critical Reading and Writing I and the students� perception towards their critical thinking skill in CRW I. In order to attain the data, the researchers employed mixed-method. Observation sheet, interview guidelines, close-ended and open-ended questionnaires were utilized. The data of the close-ended questionnaire set in the Likert Scale distributed to 17 students was analyzed by measuring the central tendency or the mean and it indicates that the value of the students� perceived critical thinking skills is 3.89 (middle to high) in which the highest 4.18 is on interpretation skill and the lowest 3.71 is analysis skill. Meanwhile, for the open-ended questionnaire, the data was analyzed utilizing coding procedure. Further, in analyzing the data of the interview, the researchers recorded the data into transcripts and analyzed them utilizing selective coding and it reveals that the instructional strategies used are explicit instruction, teacher questioning and active and cooperative learning.

This research aimed to findout the effectiveness of learning cycle 7e assisted e-modul to improve critical thinking skill of Junior High School of students. This research used the quasy experimental design with three classed as sample, VII A as first experiment class, VII B as second experiment class, andVII C as control class. The data were used in this research are the result of pretest and n-gain scores. Data were analyzed by one way Anova and Scheffe test. Based on the result of the Scheffe test, it is knownthe models learning is togive the impact of a diffirent order to enhance the ability of the critical thinking skill. The mean of N-Gain at first experiment class was 0,829, at second experiment class was 0,693, and control class was 0,571. Based on the mean of N-Gain, it can be concluded that learning cycle 7e assisted e-modul was the most effective model to improve critical thinking skill of Junior High School students.

This study was aimed at elaborating students’ perception toward the implementation of peer assessment in writing class either before or after revision. Writing becomes one of skills which should be mastered by students in order to get higher level of literacy. Writing is a productive skill which asks students to arrange words and organize them into good writing which could be understood by readers. The success of writing is determined by the writing process itself starting from planning, first draft writing, revising, and editing. One of the strategies used in teaching writing is by implementing peer assessment. Peer assessment strategy becomes one of important parts in the process of writing because there will be feedback or suggestion from peers in doing a review. The number of the subject of this research was students in second semester of the English Education Department of UNISNU Jepara. This research was conducted on even semester. The total number of the students, which became respondents, was 37 students of English Education Department. The research design used was qualitative research which measured students’ perceptions of the implementation of peer assessment in writing: before and after revision. The result showed that before revision, students had negative perception toward their own writing. After revision, they had positive perceptions toward peer assessment strategy. Those included usefulness and meaningfulness, nature of feedback, reality of feedback, precision, validity, fairness, and personal goal-setting. Besides that, the score after revision (7.9) was higher than the score before revision (6.62). It meant that the result showed the increasing of students’ score after revision.

This research aims to improve students' critical thinking skill using IMPROVE learning model. The subject of this research were VII D grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Purwokerto in the academic year of 2016/2017, consisted of 18 male students and 18 female students. This research employed classroom action research with 3 cycles consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In order to know students' critical thinking skill, the researcher used intrument of essay test given in the end of each cycle. The results indicate that students' critical thinking skill improves in cycle I with the mean score is 53.56; then it improves in cycle II with the mean score is 67.87; and it improves in cycle II with the mean score is 77.44. It can be concluded that IMPROVE learning model can improve students' critical thinking skill at VII D grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Purwokerto

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran berupa Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP) dan Lembar Kegiatan Siswa (LKS) menggunakan pendekatan inquiry berorientasi pada kemampuan berpikir kritis dan rasa ingin tahu siswa yang berkualitas berdasarkan aspek valid, praktis dan efektif. Penelitian ini menggunakan model pengem­bangan ADDIE dengan tahapan analisis, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Subjek penelitian adalah 32 siswa kelas XI MIA 3 SMA Negeri 1 Godean. Analisis data kevalidan dan kepraktisan dilakukan dengan mengkonversi skor aktual menjadi skor kualitatif. Analisis keefektifan dilakukan dengan menentukan persentase ketuntasan siswa pada tes kemampuan berpikir kritis dan rata-rata skor angket rasa ingin tahu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perangkat pembelajaran menggunakan pendekatan inquiry yang berorientasi pada kemam­puan berpikir kritis dan rasa ingin tahu siswa telah memenuhi kriteria valid, praktis dan efektif. Developing a learning kit using an inquiry approach oriented to critical thinking skillAbstractThis study aimed to produce a learning kit using the inquiry approach oriented to students’ critical thinking skills and curiosity which has a good quality in the aspects of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This study was research and development that used the ADDIE model, which includes the steps of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects were 32 of 11th-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Godean (Senior High School), Province of Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The data of validity and practicality were analyzed by converting the actual score into qualitative data. The data of effectiveness were done by determining the percentage of student that passed the critical thinking skill tests and the mean scores of students' curiosity questionnaire. The results of this study were a teaching kit using the inquiry approach oriented to students' critical thinking skill and curiosity has met the criterion of valid, practical, and effective.

This paper aims to describe the search engine optimization of students’ blog based business by utilizing Google Keyword Planner and Google Trends. Students’ blog based business is one of activities employing content writing in Business English Writing Class. It is a blog based project. As a matter of fact, most of the blog based project ended up underutilized. Producing content writing is not that simple, besides the writing quality, students have to make sure that the writing product can be searched online and indexed by Google.  Thus, not only having an excellent writing skill and qualified products, students also have to learn how to optimize their content writing. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method in term of case study. Subjects are Business English Writing Class students in English Education Department of Sebelas Maret University. The findings reveal that: 1) the students’ content writing have good quality, good optimization and resulted in the real transactional activities; 2) the students acknowledge that they have to conduct a mini research to figure out what is the most appropriate keyword elaborated in their writing used in promoting their products; 3) the students learn that blog based writing is not only substituting from paper based writing into internet based writing.

The aims of the study were to find out (1) whether critical thinking had any significant correlation to reading comprehension of English Education Study Program Students at one of Madrasahs in Lubuk Linggau, South Sumatera; and (2) whether critical thinking significantly influenced their reading comprehension. The study was in the form of correlational research method. The population of the study was 636 active EFL students. By using purposive sampling technique, there were 108 students involved as participants in this research. The instruments, both critical thinking test and reading comprehension test, were analyzed in order to gain the data of the study. To find out whether critical thinking of students, as a whole, had any correlation with students' reading comprehension achievement or not, Pearson-Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was applied.  Besides, to answer the second research problem, to find the significant influence of critical thinking, the coefficient determination (R Square) was applied. From the data analysis, it was found that there was significant correlation between students’ critical thinking and their reading comprehension since the p-value was (0.020) was less than significance value (0.020 < 0.005). In addition, to know the percentage of critical thinking skill influence on reading comprehension, R-square was obtained. The students’ critical thinking skill gave significant effect with 48.4% contribution towards reading comprehension. In short, critical thinking had relation to reading comprehension of the students of one of Madrasahs in Lubuk Linggau, South Sumatera.
