Vauvenargues describes both the social and philosophical world as a battleground of conflicting interests, thereby extending the premises of Classical ego psychology into the Enlightenment. His heroes, political and philosophical, may be seen as seeking a new kind of peace in their triumph over men and systems metaphorically portrayed as rigid, blind, and imprisoned within their own egocentricity. His ideal philosopher reconciles all conflicting views in an overarching system of truth. Ultimately this system rests not so much on principles of logic as on the personal qualities of the thinker, his “pénétration,” “profondeur,” and “étendue d'esprit,” his ability to transcend the self. In the partially Spinozistic, partially rococo, and eminently conciliatory vision vouchsafed the true philosopher, variety submits to organic order, concepts and people maintain their autonomy, yet grow interrelated. Apparent contradictions vanish in the fullness of truth. Vauvenargues's early works suffer from his inability to articulate this vision within conventional, discursive forms. In the posthumous Caractères, he invents a new technique, the “définition,” which strikingly parallels the idiom of contemporary fictional realism. By capturing visible phenomena and exposing their paradoxically contrasting inner mechanisms, Vauvenargues reveals both the method and the nature of the truth he repeatedly struggled to express.

The major problem of the self-shielding methods based on the equivalence principle is the difficulty of calculating the dilution cross section σe with adequate precision. We have proposed a new self-shielding procedure that contains a new technique to calculate dilution cross section. We have compared our method to the generalized Stamm'ler method. Accuracy of each computing approach is determined using reference results obtained from a micro-group slowing-down code named CESCOL.

This chapter recounts yet more milestones and developments in Wolff's musical career, as well as the changes within his household which in turn enacted further changes into his opus. As Wolff settled into life at Dartmouth, he once again found himself diverging politically from the paths set by Cage and Cardew. But beyond the social consciousness of his performance collective, Wolff turned to a new technique: the veiled embedding of old worker's songs and political tunes in the fabric of his counterpoint. In addition, Wolff would also create another landmark piece in his career: Wobbly Music, which was his first choral work. It established his canon of musico-political sources: the worker's music championed by folk revivalists of the 1950s and 1960s, and exploited a technique that had long fascinated him: hocket.

Existing keyword-based search techniques suffer from limitations owing to unknown, mismatched, and obscure vocabulary. These challenges are particularly prevalent in social media, where slang, jargon, and memetics are abundant. We develop a new technique, Archetype-Based Modeling and Search, that can mitigate these challenges as they are encountered in social media. This technique learns to identify new relevant documents based on a specified set of archetypes from which both vocabulary and relevance information are extracted. We present a case study from the social media data from Reddit, by using authors from /r/Opiates to characterize discourse around opioid use and to find additional relevant authors on this topic.

When emphasizing a role of education in development of creative personality, attention during the process of teaching music is paid to the pupil’s social and emotional learning which determines formation of self-expression skills based on the pupil’s attitude and personal qualities. Emotions as one of the main mechanisms of mental activity and behavior are directed toward satisfaction of current needs, while social processes determine a way how a pupil assesses intensity of the motivation establishing emotional stimulus. The motivation area of the self-expression formation in teaching music is determined by the social and emotional learning environment of the pupil, facilitating interaction of emotional and cognitive processes, and formation of mutual relationships in family, class, school and among peers. The aim of the study: to characterize the types of social and emotional activity facilitating self-expression of pupils in teaching music, their correlation with the self-expression of the pupil’s personality in social environment. Research methods: analysis of scientific literature, analysis of the author’s teaching experience, thematic analysis of the pupil’s essays in emotional and social context.

SummaryThe diffusion ofComparison has been made with the self-diffusion of Uranium by a new technique of differential diffusion measurements. It results that the activation energy for Plutonium diffusion is 6.0 kcals less than that of Uranium diffusion.
