A new approach to synthesis at the aminated glass surface of novel biocompatible polymeric nanolayers consisting of poly(N-methacryloyl-L-proline) brushes has been developed. Formation of the polymer nanolayers has been realized in several stages. At the first stage, the glass surface has been modified by aminosilane (APTEC), afterwards monolayer of the peroxide-containing initiator (PI) based on pyromellitic acid has been tethered to this aminated surface. The immobilized PI has been used further for initiation of the grafting "from the surface" polymerization of N-methacryloyl-L-proline for obtaining of the peptidomimetic polymer brushes. Features of the reactions, as well as optimal conditions for performing the process are highlighted in this work. Presented here poly(N-methacryloyl-L-proline) grafted brush coatings are promising material for numerous applications in nanomedicine, especially for production of implants and systems of the controlled interaction with proteins and cells.

AbstractWe investigated the interplay between different mechanisms of the lateral and vertical segregation in the synthesized via “grafting from” approach symmetric A/B (where A and B are poly(styrene-co-2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorostyrene) and poly(methylmethacrylate), respectively) polymer brushes upon exposure to different solvents. We used X-ray photoemission electron spectroscopy and microscopy (X-PEEM), AFM, water contact angle measurements, and oxygen plasma etching to study morphology of the brushes. The ripple morphology after toluene (nonselective solvent) revealed elongated lamellar-like domains of A and B polymers alternating across the surface. The dimple-A morphology consisting of round clusters of the polymer A was observed after acetone (selective solvent for B). The top layer was enriched with the polymer B showing that the brush underwent both the lateral and vertical phase segregation. A qualitative agreement with predictions of SCF theory was found.

Abstract In this paper, we provide a new approach for the anionic modification and functional application of nanocellulose. The nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) is prepared from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and modified by fatty acids (lauric acid, palmitic acid and stearic acid). Ammonium ceric sulfate or hydrogen peroxide/ferrous sulfate being used as an initiator, three kinds of modified nanocrystalline cellulose (MNCC) can be synthesized at low temperature. The terminology for these MNCC is L-MNCC (NCC modified by lauric acid), P-MNCC (NCC modified by palmitic acid) and S-MNCC (NCC modified by stearic acid). Compared with those existing synthesized methods, the reaction condition is mild, and the modified products show strong stability. It can be seen from morphological structure analysis and reaction conditions analysis of MNCC that the original structure of cellulose is changed slightly. And the optimal conditions for preparing MNCC are obtained. The best yields of L-MNCC, P-MNCC and S-MNCC are 54.2 %, 20.9 % and 14.5 %, respectively.

Abstract New polymer brushes with an ester backbone and poly(methyl methacrylate) side chains are synthesized by polycondensation and polymerization methods. The initiating groups are sulfonyl chloride groups laterally attached to the polyester chain. PMMA side chains are grafted by the ATRP method according to the “grafting from” multicenter macroinitiator strategy. The conditions for the polymerization processes in a controlled mode are selected, and the ways of targeted regulation of the degree of polymerization of methacrylate side chains are determined. Using the synthesized copolymers self-supporting films are obtained, and their physical and mechanical properties are studied.

With its simple, easy operation, electrostatic spinning has become the most important and effective way on the preparation of nano-fibers. Through experiments, we identified the optimal conditions for the preparation of PAN nano-fibers composite TiO2 are: the spinning solution concentration is 12%, the angle is 5~8°, the spinning distance is 8cm, and the voltage is 12kV. The pre-oxidation largely determine the structure and properties of carbon fiber in the preparation of carbon nano-fibers. The temperature plays a decisive role on pre-oxidation. Through SEM、TG-DTA and FTIR, we explore the best conditions for the pre-oxidation temperature is 280°C and the pre-oxidation time is 2h. After carbonization and activation, the characteristic peak of TiO2 appeared at 2θ=25.2°, 37.7°in the patterns of XRD.
