Introduction: The Invisalign system has been used in the orthodontic treatment of numerous types of malocclusions. However some clinicians have reported difficulty incorrecting rotations particularly in canines and premolars using the Invisalign appliance system. This case report describes the orthodontic treatment of an adult patient with severe canine rotation (more than 45°) and crowding on upper and lower tooth.Methods: The clinical examination included extra-oral and intra-oral photographs, panoramic radiographic, lateral cephalometric, stone casts, and upper and lower arch analysis obtained from ClinCheck 3.0.The treatment planning was resolved the crowding in both upper and lower arches and the severe rotation of 33 tooth (46°) using Invisalign system as well as the canine and molar relationship, dental verticalization, adequate over jet, overbite and dental midline using the same system. The duration of the treatment was approximately eight months.Results: In Post-treatment extra oralphotographs, no significant changes were observed at the end of the treatment. Intraoral photographs showed an important and notable improved aesthetics. The canine relationship improved slightly and molar Class Irelationship was maintained. An increase in transverse diameter was observed at the level of first premolars, second premolars and first molars. The overbite was improved. The crowding and the severe canine rotation were corrected. No obvious root resorption was radiographically evident and slight cephalometric changes.Conclusion: The treatment with the Invisalign system resolved the complaint of our patient so this system could be considered as an option that offered good results in the treatment of upper and lower crowding of arches involving severe canine rotation.

Abstract An impacted or missing permanent tooth can add significant complications to an otherwise straightforward case. When multiple impacted teeth are present, the case complexity increases further. Developing a treatment sequence, determining appropriate anchorage, and planning and executing sound biomechanics can be a challenge. The following case report illustrates a patient reportedly diagnosed with mild scleroderma as an adolescent. He presented for orthodontic treatment as an adult with multiple retained primary teeth and multiple impacted teeth. Diagnosis, treatment planning, and various methods of managing guided eruption of impacted teeth will be discussed. Following orthodontic treatment that required extraction of multiple primary and permanent teeth as well as exposure and ligation of multiple permanent teeth by an oral surgeon, the patient finished with a significantly improved functional and esthetic result.

This case report presents surgically assisted orthodontic treatment for an adult patient due to labial exostosis, prominent malar, and unesthetic chin. Her treatment was total arch distalization with modified C-palatal plate for maxillary arch and miniscrews for mandibular arch. In addition, she was treated with alveoloplasty, malarplasty, and genioplasty to improve the consistency of her profile. The total treatment duration was 28 months.

Transmigrated mandibular canines increase treatment complexity in terms of both anchorage and biomechanical planning, posing challenges for both Orthodontists and Oral Surgeons. This case report presents the orthodontic treatment in a 12-year-old girl patient, with transmigrated and impacted mandibular right canine positioned horizontally below the apices of the mandibular incisors. The mandibular deciduous right canine was extracted followed by the traction of the transmigrated permanent canine. Eruption was properly guided, and the correct position of the tooth was orthodontically guided into its normal position in the arch. The patient’s occlusion was significantly improved with good aesthetic outcome, functional occlusion, and a stable result after 1.5 years of follow-up.

This case report describes a rare presentation of an osteoma in the maxillary sinus picked up from an incidental finding on an orthopantomogram that was obtained to inform orthodontic treatment. While orthodontists principally use this radiograph to assess the developing dentition, aid treatment planning and monitor treatment, several peripheral anatomical sites are evident on this radiograph. We review the literature in relation to osteomas presenting in the craniofacial area along with its management. We provide examples of common radiopaque lesions along with their radiographic features that dental healthcare clinicians may encounter.

Abstract Introduction Objective of this study was to investigate the incidence and severity of apical root resorptions (ARR) during orthodontic treatment with aligners. Materials and methods The sample comprised 100 patients (17–75 years of age) with a class I occlusion and anterior crowding before treatment, treated exclusively with aligners (Invisalign®, Align Technologies, Santa Clara, CA, USA). The following teeth were assessed: upper and lower anterior teeth and first molars. Root and crown lengths of a total of 1600 teeth were measured twice in pre- and post-treatment panoramic radiographs. Afterwards, relative changes of the root length during treatment were calculated by a root-crown-ratio taking pre- and post-treatment root and crown lengths into consideration. A reduction of this ratio was considered as a shortening of the initial root length. Additionally, tooth movements of the front teeth were assessed by lateral cephalograms and the 3-dimensonal set up of each patient. Results All patients had a reduction of the pre-treatment root length with a minimum of two teeth. On average 7.36 teeth per patient were affected. 54% of 1600 measured teeth showed no measurable root reduction. A reduction of >0%-10% of the pre-treatment root length was found in 27.75%, a distinct reduction of >10%-20% in 11.94%. 6.31% of all teeth were affected with a considerable reduction of >20%. We found no statistically significant correlation between relative root length changes and the individual tooth, gender, age or sagittal and vertical orthodontic tooth movement; except for extrusion of upper front teeth, which was considered as not clinical relevant due to the small amount of mean 4% ARR. Conclusions The present study is the first analyzing ARR in patients with a fully implemented orthodontic treatment with aligners (i.e. resolving anterior crowding). The variety was high and no clinical relevant influence factor could be detected. A minimum of two teeth with a root length reduction was found in every patient. On average, 7.36 teeth per patient were affected.

This is a case report about the successful orthodontic treatment of a bilateral cleft lip and palate patient by using a combination of bone grafting and subsequent prosthodontic rehabilitation. An adult patient with a bilateral cleft lip and palate presented with a concave profile, anterior and lateral crossbite, a markedly deep overbite, and residual bilateral alveolar clefts. His jaw movement patterns were unstable and irregular due to his collapsed bite. Orthodontic treatment with bilateral bone grafting improved his concave profile by downward and backward rotation of the mandible within the freeway space, and optimum occlusion and functionally stable and smooth jaw movements were obtained. After a 6-year retention period, no skeletal relapse could be detected, and his occlusal stability was satisfactory.

AIM: To measure the incidence and severity of root resorption after orthodontic treatment with Invisalign. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from June 2017 to January 2018. Pre- treatment and post-treatment Orthopantographs were obtained from orthodontic records of 29 patients managed with aligners (Invisalign®, Align Technologies, Santa Clara, CA, USA) at different dental clinics in Riyadh City. The selected sample was fulfilled the following criteria: (1) Class I malocclusion, (2) Mild to moderate crowding, (3) Non-extraction orthodontic treatment, (3) No evidence of root resorption before orthodontic treatment, (4) No root abnormalities or dilaceration, and (5) Good quality of pre- and post-treatment Orthopantographs. One examiner performed the measurements directly on the Orthopantographs using electronic digital caliper (Mitutoyo Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Tokyo, Japan) with an accuracy of 0.01mm. The measurements were performed on maxillary and mandibular central incisors, lateral incisors, and canines pre- and post-operatively, resulting in a total of 696 measurements. The crown length was measured from incisal edge to cemento- enamel-junction, while the root length from cemento-enamel-junction to root apex. RESULTS: In our study, 72% of the teeth demonstrated root resorption, in regard to the severity of root resorption, we found that mild root resorption > 0% up to 2% in all the affected teeth. Upper Anterior teeth have more significant resorption rate than lower anterior teeth P<0.05. CONCLUSION: The present study showed that incidence of root resorption was high after orthodontic treatment with Invisalign®, however the severity is very low and it is limited to the surface resorption only.
