Improvements in Web Based ERP Software Architecture as Implemented on the Cloud

 Cloud computing is the buzz word in today’s Information Technology. It can be used in various fields like banking, health care and education. Some of its major advantages that is pay-per-use and scaling, can be profitably implemented in development of Enterprise Resource Planning or ERP. There are various challenges in implementing an ERP on the cloud. In this paper, we discuss some of them like ERP software architecture by considering a case study of a manufacturing company.

In recent years, more reports and articles have been published on the necessity of implementing changes to manufacturing processes in the context of sustainable development (SD). The use of IT systems in manufacturing companies creates the opportunity to support changes implemented in the context of adaptation to the concept of SD. This paper proposes and explores a Sustainable Development Card (SDC) within an enterprise, the use of which will enable knowledge about the enterprise’s development level to be gained in the context of SD through the data and information collected from the information system, namely, the Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) implemented within a company. This research uses studies from the literature on the subject and also the case study in order to determine the SDC integrated with the ERP system. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is used, which uses validity indicators to allow a manufacturing company’s development to be evaluated within the context of SD. The results were verified by a real case study of a Polish manufacturing company. It was determined that the proposed approach allows SD to be assessed in a manufacturing company and enables the implementation process of SD strategy to be constantly monitored. This paper contributes to theory and practice at the interface of the development and sustainability of a manufacturing company, whereby assessing sustainability is associated with the development of strategy and information systems that are associated with the development of an organisation. The possibilities of using the results of research, in practice, are demonstrated convincingly.

When an organization decides that it is time to invest in a digital transformation journey or even in an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, it is going to make a big decision. This will significantly impact most elements that contribute to its success and growth. Organized and structured planning and preparation will be required from different aspects. This chapter describes the key success—or failure—factors in implementation focusing on small and medium enterprises (SMEs). SMEs usually have limited time, resources, skills, and budget compared to large firms. Throughout the journey of transformation, they need to focus on scoping and contracting phases distinguishing between digital transformation and regular information technology contracts. This chapter defines the building blocks to have a successful transformation. Contracting and scoping are considered at the heart of managing the complete digital transformation journey.

It is widely understood that Information Technology (IT) and Information Systems (IS) provide great benefits in improving visibility of supply and value chains within and across organizations. One method to achieve this has been to integrate Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems with web-based and other technologies using EAI technologies. This article seeks to study EAI technologies with reference to the SaaS model of cloud computing. It also gives an example of how EAI can be made functional across the enterprise even with applications having different platforms, technologies and programming languages. The advantages, disadvantages and issues of EAI applications are listed.

Free/Open Source Enterprise Resource Planning (FOS-ERP) software is an emerging phenomenon having the potential to revolutionize the ERP market worldwide. This chapter focuses on the FOS-ERP market for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and aims at informing managers, scholars, students and researchers of the opportunities and the related risks for SMEs wishing to adopt and implement a FOS-ERP solution. It is widely accepted that SMEs, which have limited capital and other resources, are among the organizations to be benefited by the existence of FOS-ERP by acquiring a system similar to that used by large enterprises. At the same time there are certain risks in adopting a FOS-ERP solution such as security issues and hidden costs. Guidelines for SMEs to eliminate these risks are provided. In order to define the backdrop of FOS-ERP systems, Web 2.0, cloud computing and Open Source Software (OSS) are also discussed.

ABSTRACT Three short exercises are presented that introduce certain functional aspects of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. The objective is to provide students with an introduction to the functionality that is incorporated in a typical ERP software solution that supports an evaluation of internal controls and segregation of duties as part of the Information Technology Audit (IT Audit) function. We have developed three hands-on step-by-step exercises using a widely implemented ERP system (i.e., SAP) and provide access to SAP on the cloud so that students can learn how to verify internal controls embedded in the system and identify control weaknesses such as a lack of segregation of duties.


Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software packages have been widely implemented in the developed world since they first appeared on the market in the late 1970s. In the developing world, however, the lack of the human and financial resources needed for such projects, and the non-availability of sales and support offices for western-based ERP vendors, has limited the uptake of ERP software. However, in Iran, there has been significant recent growth in the development of homegrown ERP software solutions. These products are usually more customizable than western-based ERP products and can thus be adapted more readily to specific user requirements. Using a case study approach, this article examines the origins and development of one of these companies – the Behko software company, and assesses its main product, and how it has been implemented in a typical end-user company. The article concludes that the homegrown ERP sector in Iran is making a significant contribution to the provision of information systems in the country, and is competing successfully with western-based alternatives.

Accounting information systems (AISs), the core module of any enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, are usually designed as centralised systems. Nowadays, the continuous development and applications of blockchain, or more broadly—distributed ledger technology (DLT), can change the architecture, overcome and improve some limitations of centralised systems, most notably security and privacy. An increasing number of authors are suggesting the application of blockchain technologies in management, accounting and ERPs. This paper aims to examine the emerging literature on this field, and an immediate result is that blockchain applications can have significant benefits. The paper’s innovative contribution and considerable objective are to examine if blockchain can be successfully integrated with AIS and ERPs. We find that blockchain can facilitate integration at multiple levels and better serve various purposes as auditing compliance. To demonstrate that, we analyse e-procurement systems and operations using case study research methodology. The findings suggest that DLT, decentralised finance (DeFI), and financial technology (FinTech) applications can facilitate integrating AISs and ERP systems and yield significant benefits for efficiency, productivity and security.
