Clean water is a scarce resource for the human life and is subject to wastage due to leakage of the distribution pipes in large cities.  Water pipe leakage is a big problem around the world of which most of the water distribution authorities faces difficulties to detect the location of the fault. This problem of leakage can be caused by several factors such as breakage of the pipelines due to aging or ongoing constructions in urban cities like Dar es salaam, consequently due to that case, the distribution authorities face hardship to identify the cause and enable them to take action.  Therefore, the aim of this project was to develop an IoT-based system for water leakage detection. The prototype was developed comprising two sensors embedded at the source and destination points to measure the flow rate of water.  The result indicated that the volume of water generated at the start point can be compared with the other end to determine if there is any leakage. A greater focus on distance calculation could produce interesting findings that account for more research on IoT monitoring systems.

HIRFL system is the most advanced Heavy Ion Research Facility in world; to protect its safe operation is the major responsibility of the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. To process the situation of possible water leakage during the operation of equipments, we developed a water leakage detection system. The system can precisely detect the specific location of water leakage, and visually display on the computer in the control room remotely. The paper describes the theoretical design and practical, and assesses the effect of the field running. It has been successful early warning repeatedly water leaking avoid accidents, ensure the normal operation of the machine, since the system established in 2010.

Expectations have been raised for a social infrastructure maintenance system that utilizes IoT/M2M technology. We are working to develop a water leakage detection system using wireless sensors set into the water pipes. However, radio propagation is restricted in the constrained underground environment of water pipes so how to collect the data and identify leaks is an issue. We propose a system that combines drive-by data collection and static data collection, in order to collect acoustic sensor data from a wide area effectively [1]. We also propose a random noise removal method by focusing on the constancy of the leak sound, in order to identify leaks accurately. We show the results of evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed system in tests and real fields.

The Water is the most valuable because it is a basic need of all humans, in these days water supply department are facing problem because of less amount of water due to less rainfall, lowering of ground water in spite of all these problems water leakage from pipelines while supplying and also no monitoring of water distribution and controlling. With increment in population, neighborhoods have expanded as a result of this reason water has turned into a major issue which influences in distribution, conservation, consumption and also the quality so, to overcome all these problems and create system economical there’s want of  correct observance and dominant system. In this paper, we are proposing a system which can detect the leakages, monitoring and controlling if water supply in pipelines. Sensors places in the tank which continuously informs the water level of water in the tank. The motor functioning will be automatically turn on and when tank is about to fill up it will cut off.

There is an urgent need for industrial Internet of things (IoT) solutions to deploy a smart hydrophone sensor grid to monitor pipeline health and to provide an accurate prediction in the event of any leakage. One solution is to develop an IoT water leakage detection system consisting of an interface to capture acoustic signals from aluminum nitride (AlN)-based micro-machined infrasonic hydrophone sensors that are fed as inputs and predict an approximate leak location as a form of output. Micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) are particularly useful for IoT applications with low power consumption and small device footprint. Data analytics including characterization, pre/post processing are applied to determine the leaks. In this work, we have developed the process flow and algorithm to detect pipe leakage occurrence and pinpoint the location accurately. Our approach can be implemented to detect leaks for different pipe lengths, diameters and materials.
