This research work examined the use of calcium carbide as ripening agent for banana and plantain in major markets within Ilorin metropolis. Open ended/structured questionnaires were administered to banana/plantain handlers in six different markets, afterward samples of ripe banana and plantain were also collected from different points in each market at the same time for physicochemical and mineral analyses. Results showed that a total of 85 respondents returned their questionnaires from all the markets; of which majority were female (99 percent), 89 percent of them were married, only 35 percent had formal education, 94 percent of them do store their plantain/banana, 83 percent were aware of the use of calcium carbide in ripening of plantain/banana but only 1 percent admitted using it. Comparing with the control samples, the physicochemical and mineral analyses showed that there were reduced moisture and vitamin C contents with increased values of arsenic and phosphorus being recovered from banana and plantain samples. Many authors had associated induced ripening with the use of ripening agent such as calcium carbide with reduced moisture and vitamin C contents with elevated values of arsenic and phosphorus in ripe fruits which had many health risks. Samples of banana and plantain collected from Ilorin markets were probably forced ripen with artificial ripening agents. The needs for constant education of the public especially fruits handlers on the health implications of the use of calcium carbide as ripening agent cannot be overemphasized.

Recommendation systems have emerged as a response to overload in terms of increased amounts of information online, which has become a problem for users regarding the time spent on their search and the amount of information retrieved by it. In the field of recommendation systems in education, the relevance of recommended educational resources will improve the student’s learning process, and hence the importance of being able to suitably and reliably ensure relevant, useful information. The purpose of this systematic review is to analyze the work undertaken on recommendation systems that support educational practices with a view to acquiring information related to the type of education and areas dealt with, the developmental approach used, and the elements recommended, as well as being able to detect any gaps in this area for future research work. A systematic review was carried out that included 98 articles from a total of 2937 found in main databases (IEEE, ACM, Scopus and WoS), about which it was able to be established that most are geared towards recommending educational resources for users of formal education, in which the main approaches used in recommendation systems are the collaborative approach, the content-based approach, and the hybrid approach, with a tendency to use machine learning in the last two years. Finally, possible future areas of research and development in this field are presented.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of community restaurants (CRs), managed by the Government of the State of Bahia/Brazil, for the dimension of access to food. The study used secondary data obtained from the public opinion survey Profile of users of community restaurants in Salvador. The nutritional information was accessed through the analysis of CRs’ menus. Adequate effectiveness of access to food was considered when the CR served meals to 50% to 70% of the users considered the target audience (individuals served by the two CRs located in the city of Salvador/Bahia/Brazil). The participants (n = 1464; 778 as low-income individuals) were adult CR users from Salvador/Brazil. Most of the respondents were male, 40 to 54 years old, not white, had up to 9 years of formal education, without a partner, and living in the municipality of Salvador. The evaluated CRs are effective in serving 53.1% of the target population in their total service capacity. Meal provision only reached an estimated 0.7% of the socially vulnerable community in the district. The average energy value of the meal served by the CR units was 853.05 kcal/meal, with a mean energy density composition classified as average (1.15 kcal/g). The effectiveness of the evaluated community restaurants showed that these instruments were minimally effective in promoting access to food for the low-income population within their total daily service capacity, and the current quantity of these facilities was insufficient. However, these instruments stand out in the fundamental role of promoting the daily distribution of meals to the Brazilian population with the highest social vulnerability levels.

Malaysia is a fast developing country which thrives on the growth of its population and economy. Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia with an area of 243 km2 has a population of 1.4 million [1]. From the statistics, the number of passengers using intercity train services in Malaysia in was 187,345,149 in the year 2012 [2]. Comfortability of a service is a major factor that influences the public. The research will be conducted at the City of Kuala Lumpur, PUTRA LRT (Kelana Jaya Line) and MONOREL Line is selected as the main focus of the research. The data collection will be conducted in the train coaches with two parameters. The noise and vibrations in the train coaches will be taken using the Sound Level Meter (NOR118) and Vibration Meter (Movipack 01dB-Steel) respectively. The noise data were obtained from the interior of the train coaches during operation, while the vibrations were obtained from the wall surface of the coach interior. The vibration aspect for this research is more focused on three parameters which are displacement (μm), vibration velocity (mm/s) and vibration frequency (Hz)[7]. Questionnaires were given out to the train passengers in order to obtain public opinions and satisfaction feedbacks relating their experiences on the train coaches. In this paper it also discusses on the outcomes of the field research work conducted and it was found that PUTRA LRT has a lower vibration value when compared to the MONOREL. The public opinion has also showed unanimous agreement to the field observations conducted by the researchers. However, MONOREL records lower noise levels compared to PUTRA LRT which means quieter journey experience to the commuters. It is hoped that this study will enable the operators to enhance their service weaknesses with the public playing a part in improving the urban rail transit in the City of Kuala Lumpur. Illiteracy is a global issue that must be addressed immediately. In Malang Regency, there were 18,535 people who were illiterate. The effort of the Malang Regency Education Office to improve AMH is through Non-Formal Education Program (PNF). The assessment of the literacy development program through the PNF Program can use Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) evaluation assessments. This research uses descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The purpose of this research is to describe and analyze the evaluation of literacy education through the PNF Program in Malang Regency using the CIPP methods. Data analysis techniques used in this study are interactive model analysis of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. Based on the evaluation results using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, and Product) method, there are still obstacles that must be resolved for the success of the PNF program. These obstacles include learning time that is not on schedule, lack of awareness of citizens in following the program, incapability of citizens, the difficulty of convincing the public, data collection of prospective citizens who fail to meet expectations. Abstrak Isu permasalahan buta huruf merupakan isu global yang harus segera ditangani. Pendidikan keaksaraan (belajar membaca dan menulis) diukur dengan Angka Melek Huruf (AMH) dapat menggambarkan jumlah orang yang memperoleh akses pendidikan sebagai hasil pembangunan. Di Kabupaten Malang terdapat 18.535 orang yang buta huruf. Upaya Dinas Pendidikan Kabupaten Malang untuk meningkatkan AMH adalah dengan Program Pendidikan Non Formal (PNF). Untuk menilai pembangunan pendidikan keaksaraan melalui Program PNF dapat menggunakan penilaian evaluasi Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP). Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah interactive model analysis Miles, Hubermana, dan Saldana. Jika dilihat dari hasil Evaluasi menggunakan metode CIPP (Context, Input, Process, dan Product), masih ada hambatan-hambatan yang harus diselesaikan demi keberhasilan program PNF. Hambatan tersebut diantaranya waktu pembelajaran yang tidak sesuai jadwal, kurang kesadaran warga Belajar (WB) dalam mengikuti program, ketidakmampuan Warga Belajar (WB), sulitnya meyakinkan masyarakat, pendataan calon warga belajar yang tidak sesuai harapan.

The evaluation of public satisfaction with government quality work is an evaluation form to evaluate government performance from the perspective of the public. The evaluation process is open and transparent, and the results are relatively objective and fair. Taking the application practice in Nei Mongol as an example, in this paper, an index framework is designed and constructed, 12 leagues and cities in the whole region are covered by the investigation, and the actual effect of local quality work is explored and analyzed in combination with big data technology so as to provide enlightenment and reference for relevant research work in the quality field.
