AbstractWe survey 231 undergraduate students to analyze how retail investors’ characteristics influence their decision to use a robo-advisor. Characteristics such as the willingness to take risk, extraversion, and optimism are significant in univariate tests but the willingness to take risk and the internal locus of control are significant in multivariate settings. Participants who use the robo-advisor invest more and are more likely to also invest on their own in both stocks and bonds. We also find statistically significant differences between participants who exclusively use the robo-advisor for investments in stocks and bonds and participants who use the robo-advisor and invest some money in stocks and bonds on their own.

Objectives: An attention to psychological aspects can clarify the understanding and management of patients with unresolved dizziness/vertigo. Thus, we study the locus of control and the mediation effect of self-efficacy for assessing the relationship between locus of control and dizziness/vertigo in a referral-based dizziness clinic. Methods: We analyzed the dizziness-specific locus of control and self-efficacy using the modified questionnaire in 117 consecutive dizzy patients (34 males; age range, 20–74 years). In addition to the visual analogue scale-dizziness for evaluation of subjective dizziness, the following items were further evaluated; Korean Dizziness Handicap Inventory, Korean Beck Depression Inventory II, and Korean Beck Anxiety Inventory. According to the verification procedure proposed by Hayes, the mediation effect of self-efficacy verifies the relationship between the locus of control and dizziness through analysis. Results: Except the scale of emotion such as anxiety and depression, sex, age, duration of illness, and diagnosis all did not significantly affect the dependent variables. Vestibular migraine (39.3%), vestibulopathy (15.4%), and dizziness associated with anxiety and depression (14.5%) were the most common diagnoses. On all scales, Cronbach’s α ranged from 0.72 to 0.94. In the direct effect, the internal locus of control had a tendency of aggravation of dizziness/vertigo, but in the indirect effect, the higher the internal locus of control, the higher the self-efficacy, and the higher the self-efficacy, the lower the dizziness. Conclusions: In our study, we can assume that the locus of control can impart ambivalent effects on dizziness/vertigo. And the modulation of self-efficacy could be another treatment for patients with unresolved dizziness.

Adolescence brings with it different types of changes in people – such as physical, emotional and cognitive, which can be quite stressful. Some of the factors that can be protective against stress in the transition period of high school completion are the locus of control and perceived social support. The aim of the study is to examine whether, and to what extent, stress levels in adolescents can be predicted based on the locus of control of adolescents as well as based on perceived social support. The research examined 190 adult high school students (Nmale = 80; Nfemale = 110) from six municipalities in Serbia. The following instruments were used: Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and The Multidimensional Locus of Control (IPC). The results showed that the dimensions Internal locus of control (β = - .30, p < .000), Family support (β = -.21, p = .002) and Powerful others (β = .190, p = .020) contribute statistically significantly to explaining the level variance stress in adolescents. Considering the intergroup differences by gender, it can be concluded that boys and girls differ statistically significantly only on the variable Stress, i.e., that girls have a higher level of stress compared to boys, t (188) = -2.411, p =.017. The only statistically significant intergroup difference when it comes to the order of birth is observed in the variable Internal locus of control, t (188) = -2.116, p =.036, where in first-born children a statistically significantly lower level of internal locus of control can be found compared to children born later. Key words: stress, adolescence, locus of control, perceived social support

Abstract Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate possible impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on general health, mental well-being, and experiences of control compared to pre-pandemic populations. Our hypotheses were that we would observe a significant lower level of psychological wellbeing and general health in the 2020 sample compared to the prepandemic samples, and that we would observe younger age groups to be the most effected. Method: Two representative Danish populations (2016, n=1656) and (2017, n=3366) were compared to a representative Danish population (n=1538) sampled during the first lockdown in May 2020. Two-tailed tests of proportions were used to investigate possible differences between samples in proportions reporting poorer mental well-being measured by WHO-5, general health, and internal locus of control. Results: Younger men (aged 18 24) and younger women (aged 18 – 44) as well as elderly women (aged 65-74) reported lower mental well-being during the early phase of the pandemic compared to the population from 2016. Both women and men in 2020 to report significantly lower levels of internal locus of control compared to the 2017 sample. This was especially true for younger men and women. There were no statistically significant differences in general health between populations. Discussion: This study partly supports the hypothesis that the the Covid-19 pandemic affected mental well-being negatively among younger persons. However, longitudinal studies are needed to investigate possible longterm effects of the pandemic on mental health and well-being. Further, qualitative studies are needed to investigate in-depth the consequenses of Covid-19.

COVID-19 has emerged as the most impactful pandemic after the Spanish flu. As communities adjust to a life with COVID-19 it has become essential to employ different behavioral mechanisms of prevention to curtail community transmission. Perceptual factors such as risk perception and locus of control play a role in the level of stress experienced and the likelihood of employing behavioral methods for the prevention of the spread of the virus. The present cross sectional study utilized four questionnaires measuring COVID-19 related risk perception, COVID-19 related stress, locus of control and adherence to safety measures. The sample consisted of 371 undergraduate students representing all academic years in the Faculty of Arts in the University of Peradeniya,Sri Lanka. A significant relationship was found between COVID-19 risk perception and COVID-19 stress. Increase in internal locus of control was reflective of lower levels of risk perception and COVID-19 related stress. However adherence to safety measures did not have a significant association with COVID-19 risk perception, COVID-19 related stress or their level of internal locus of control. COVID-19 risk perception was also predictive of COVID-19 stress while increasing internal locus of control and adherence to safety measures were not. This suggests perception of risk to be the key predictive factor for the psychological wellbeing of undergraduate students in this study during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract Background The research aimed to formulate and test a model concerning COVID-19 perceptions effects on job insecurity and a set of psychosocial factors comprising anxiety, depression, job burnout and job alienation in the Middle East and North African (hereafter, MENA) regional context. Also, the study attempted to examine whether locus of control can moderate these hypothesised linkages amongst customer service employees working in MENA hospitality organisations. Methods The study is based on a sample of 885 responses to an online survey and Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). Results The main findings show the existence of a significant correlation between COVID perceptions and job insecurity and all psychosocial factors, i.e., more intense COVID-19 perceptions accompany higher levels of job insecurity, anxiety, depression, job burnout and job alienation. Furthermore, our results revealed that, in pandemic time, hospitality customer service employees with external locus of control are more likely to suffer higher alienation, anxiety and depression than those with internal locus of control. Conclusions The research originality centres on the establishment that COVID-19 has a severe negative impact within the hospitality customer service labour force (in the MENA region). These effects were more profound for participants who claimed external locus of control than those with internal locus of control.

Abstract: This study aims to examine the factors that have the potential to influence student’s entrepreneurial intentions using the TPB theory model along with several other factors (i.e., attitude towards entrepreneurship, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, innovation, proactive personality, need for achievement, internal locus of control, risk taking propensity, lifestyle integration, social networking, resources, opportunity recognition, fungibility issues, entrepreneurial intention, and pre-start-up behavior). Data were collected through 222 entrepreneurship concentration students from well-known universities in Indonesia. The structural equation model (PLS-SEM) was applied to test the research hypotheses. The emergence of significant and positive results among all factors involved, except fungibility issues is evidence of the positive influence of the factors studied on student’s entrepreneurial intentions in Indonesia which are then briefly summarized in the form of conclusions. Keywords: Entrepreneurial intention, theory of planned behavior, pre-start-up behavior, entrepreneurship Prediksi Entrepreneurial Intention dan Pre-Start-Up Behaviour terhadap Mahasiswa Konsentrasi KewirausahaanAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji faktor-faktor yang berpotensi mempengaruhi niat berwirausaha mahasiswa dengan menggunakan model teori TPB beserta beberapa faktor lainnya (yaitu sikap berwirausaha, norma subjektif, persepsi pengendalian perilaku, inovasi, kepribadian proaktif, kebutuhan berprestasi, internal. locus of control, kecenderungan mengambil risiko, integrasi gaya hidup, jejaring sosial, sumber daya, pengenalan peluang, masalah kesepadanan, niat kewirausahaan, dan perilaku pra-start-up). Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui 222 mahasiswa konsentrasi kewirausahaan dari universitas ternama di Indonesia. Model persamaan struktural (PLS-SEM) digunakan untuk menguji hipotesis penelitian. ABSTRACTIntroduction:Quality of life of a significant proportion of patents under hemodialysis treatment is determined by their health locus of control beliefs (internal, external, chance). The aim of the present study was to investigate health locus of control of patients under hemodialysis treatment. Moreover, the relationship between socio-demographic, clinical, psychological factors and health locus of control was explored.Method:A total of 105 patients with chronic kidney failure under hemodialysis treatment (64 men and 41 women) with a mean age of 72.51 ± 7.55 years were recruited and completed (a) a demographic questionnaire, (b) the Multidisciplinary Health Locus of Control Scale and (c) the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Results:Internal locus of control (the degree to which participants feel they are in control of their own health) fluctuates lower, while locus of control from others (the degree that participants believe that others -doctors- control their health) and luck (the degree to which participants believe their health is a matter of luck) fluctuates higher in our participants than general population. State, trait and total anxiety levels were significantly correlated negatively with internal locus of control and positively with “chance” locus of control scale in the present study. Conclusions:Our participants seemed to feel highly dependent from others, such as treating physicians, nurses, family, hemodialysis machine resulting in a limited sense of freedom and autonomy. Understanding health locus of control beliefs among Greek hemodialysis patients may help health professionals to implement appropriate counseling intervention programs and improve patient psychological state and provided services.
