AbstractThe solid host of a laser dye modifies its spectroscopic properties with respect to its liquid host. During the Sol-Gel process the dye molecules suffer from changing their environment. Two parameters affect this matter, the change in the concentration due to the evaporation of the solvent (drying) and the caging of dye molecules inside the pores or attachment to the silica network. Rhodamine 6G absorption and fluorescence spectra with different concentrations, during Sol-Gel time processing, have been studied. Both, absorption and fluorescence spectra of the dye in the solid host, for different concentrations, show a blue-shift relative to its liquid phase.

Absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy techniques were applied to investigate the photophysical characteristics of acridine orange (AO) dye in solvents that included distilled water, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), acetone and ethanol in various concentrations (1×10-4–1×10-6) M. All of the samples were served at room temperature. The relationships between various parameters describing the strength of optical transitions in atoms and molecules were reviewed. This study expresses various viewpoints by describing how concentration and solvent affect the dye's absorption and fluorescence spectra. The absorption spectra of AO exhibit a band at (490 nm), except for DMSO, which shifts more towards red by 5 nm. The fluorescence spectra show a blue shift in AO aqueous solution around 6 nm until (0.5×10-4) M, followed by a red shift at around 7 nm at (1×10-6) M. There is a blue shift in (1×10-5) M for DMSO at around 4 nm, then a 10 nm red shift in higher concentrations as well as a 9 nm red shift in acetone and 6 nm in ethanol. Adding magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO NPs) quenched AO in both absorption and fluorescence spectra, whereas maximum fluorescence and intensity increased when aluminium oxide nanoparticles (Al2O3 NPs) were added to the solution.             The research is dealing with the absorption and fluorescence spectra for the hybrid of  an Epoxy Resin doped with organic dye Rhodamine (R6G) of different concentrations (5*10-6, 5*10-5, 1*10-5, 1*10-4, 5*10-4) Mol/ℓ at room temperature. The Quantum efficiency Qfm, the rate of fluorescence emission Kfm (s-1), the non-radiative lifetime τfm (s), fluorescence lifetime τf and the Stokes shift were calculated. Also the energy gap (Eg) for each dye concentration was evaluated. The results showed that the maximum quantum efficiency 62 % and maximum stokes shift 96 nm was obtained in dye concentration 5*10-6 and 1*10-4. The energy gap ranges between 1.066 eV to 1.128 eV depending proportionally on the dye concentrations.

AbstractThe sol-gel process is a solution synthesis technique which provides a low temperature chemical route for the preparation of rigid transparent matrices. A number of laser dyes have been incorporated in different sol-gel matrices and tunable laser action has been demonstrated with these materials. This paper extends the sol-gel laser field into two significant areas, infrared dyes and pyrromethenes. The work with the tricarbocyanine dyes shows the versatility of sol-gel chemistry as organic modifications produce a favorable environment for the dye molecules. The results with the pyrromethene system show a considerable increase in output energy and offer the promise of longer laser lifetimes.

Novel micro-composites from Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and silica were prepared using sol-gel technique. Different catalysts were used for the in-situ generation of silica network from tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) in the PVC matrix. Thin transparent films containing various proportions of silica in PVC were cast by the solvent elution technique. Mechanical properties of these films were studied. The results showed an increase in the value of Young's modulus and strain at rupture by the addition of small amount of silica in PVC. However, the stress at yields point and stress at rupture decreased with the addition of silica contents. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDAX) studies were also performed on these samples.

A new pyrene derivative bearing a modifiable silyl function (electron-donating group) and cyano function (electron-withdrawing group) was synthesized as a labelling agent for biological substances. The modified pyrene exhibited a marked bathochromic shift in both absorption and fluorescence spectra. The fluorescence quantum yield of the modified pyrene was also significantly increased compared with that of the unmodified pyrene. The modified pyrene was successfully incorporated into oligoDNA.

One Bis-Boc-L-alanine-1,8-naphthyridine ligand containing amino acid by amido bond named 2,7-Bis-Boc-L-alanine-1,8-naphthyridine (L1) was synthesized and characterized. And there absorption and fluorescence spectra in methanol is presented. It exhibits electronic absorption spectra with λmax at about 340 nm, which can be tentatively assigned to π→π* transition. The emission spectra of L1 in CH3OH shows a mirror symmetry peak with λmax at about 375 nm. Then, the comprehensive study of spectroscopic properties upon titration of L1 with heavy metal ions as ion source in CH3OH was investigated.

ABSTRACTNonlinear optical materials which are highly transparent and show large second harmonic generation coefficients were fabricated via the sol-gel process. Nonlinear chromophores were directly incorporated into the silica network by polymerizing chromophore containing organo silanes such as N-[3-(Triethoxysilyl)propyl]-2, 4-dinitrophenylamine (TDP) and 3-(4-Formyl phenoxy)propyl trimethoxy silane (FPT).
