AbstractMany experimental studies have been performed and the mechanism of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on the frostbitten tissue has not been elucidated. In this study, we evaluated the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on the frostbitten ears of rabbits in an experimental animal model by examining the concentrations of thromboxane A2 (as thromboxane B2-Tx B2) and of prostaglandin I2 (PG I2) (as 6-keto-prostaglandin F1α-PG F1α) in tissues, and by counting the numbers of inflammatory cells (neutrophils and mast cells-MC) Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) at 2.5 ATA for 90 minutes twice daily for fourteen days to rabbits, the ears of which were subjected to frostbite, decreased presence of inflammatory cells (mast cells −75%; neutrophils −40%) and increased prostaglandin I2 (PG I2) (as 6-Keto-PGF1α) in the involved skin. Thromboxane A2 (TxA2) (as Tx B2) was unaffected. Our results revealed that an inflammatory process was the underlying cause of frostbite injury and that hyperbaric oxygen therapy was active in pathological situations involving an inflammatory process in frostbite.

OBJECTIVE: to conduct a systematic review of experimental and clinical studies evaluating the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on the spinal cord injury. METHODS: ninety-three studies were identified in the database Pubmed. Among these, through a set of inclusion/exclusion criteria, 11 articles published between 1963 and 2009 were selected. In the nine experimental studies, different ways to apply the treatment were observed. The measured outcomes were: functional, histological, biochemical and electrophysiological. RESULTS: in most of the studies, the results show recovery of locomotor function, histology and/or biochemical features. Regarding the two studies in clinical samples, the results are controversial. The samples are heterogeneous and the application of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is not the same for all patients in each study. CONCLUSION: considering the results of this review, further studies are necessary to define the role of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in acute spinal cord injury.

Abstract: Wound healing process consists of inflammation, proliferation, and remodelling phases with increasing inflammatory cells, angiogenesis, and epithelization. Mechanism of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is O2 pressure over 1 ATA will increase oxygen pressure in the tissue. The main outcome measure is wound healing. This study was aimed to obtain the influence of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to wound healing process of deep second degree burn wounds. This was an experimental study. Subject were 36 rabbits divided into 2 groups, each of 18 rabbits. Deep second degree burn wounds were performed on all rabbits. One group was treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy 2.4 ATA for 6 days, meanwhile the other group as control. The result of Mann-Whitney U test showed significant differences in inflammatory cells (P = 0.025) and epithelization (P = 0.024); albeit, there was not significant difference in angiogenesis (P = 0.442) between the two groups. Conclusion: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy could influence the inflammatory cells and epithelization but not the angiogenesis.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is considered as the most common cause of dementia in elderly population. While the exact mechanism of AD has not been discovered, hyperbolic oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been proven to be effective in the treatment of this degenerative disease. The objectives of this article are to review the literature available on molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying HBOT and its efficacy in treating AD and to review the effectiveness of HBOT as an alternate treatment intervention in both human and animal models. 391 full text articles were included in the review after literature search between 1980–2021 from two online data base (ScienceDirect and PubMed). The following key words were used: ‘hyperbaric oxygen therapy’ and ‘Alzheimer disease.’ Based on the outcomes of clinical and experimental studies, this review advocates the use of HBOT for the treatment of AD. This review explores future directions and recommends further research into a treatment protocol that will maintain long-term cognitive health of AD patients.

This communication presents the experience of using mobile pressure chambers in patients with the confi rmed novel coronavirus infection in hospital settings. The obtained preliminary results indicate positive antihypoxic effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) applied in the form of increased saturation. After a session of HBO, patients demonstrated an increase in the oxygen saturation of capillary blood hemoglobin at the average level of 3.71 points. Differences between SatO2 levels prior to and following HBO treatment were signifi cant in the CT2, CT3 and CT4 groups (p0.05). As expected, the effi cacy of HBO in terms of the oxygen saturation of capillary blood hemoglobin was the greatest in the patient groups showing pronounced clinical and radiological changes in the lungs.

The pattern and lifestyle of today's society with the presence of an interner facility makes people spend more time sitting out than on exercise and increased consumption of high-fat foods may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. An effective therapy is needed in preventing the occurrence of cardiovascular disease. Hyperbaric oxygen now starts to develop for the treatment of several diseases, which in turn can increase the gene forming antioxidant enzymes and ROS. To determine effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on total cholesterol levels of wistar white rats (Rattusnovergicus) induced bye high fat. The study was carried out in an expeative post test only group control of three groups. One group is given standard feed. All groups induced high-fat diet and standard feed. Of the two groups induced, one group was given hyperbaric oxygen therapy with a dose of 3 x 30 minutes for six days on day 7 at a blood test to determine total cholesterol levels. One way Anova parametric statistic test showed that p = 0.007 < α proved hypothesis that hyperbaric oxygen therapy giving effect to total cholesterol level of white mice of jantangalurist rings induced by high fat diet. Total cholesterol was significantly different between K (-) and K (+) and between K (-) and P. It was found that hyperbaric oxygen therapy had an effect on total cholesterol level dose of 3x30 minutes for six days.
