Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is considered as the most common cause of dementia in elderly population. While the exact mechanism of AD has not been discovered, hyperbolic oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been proven to be effective in the treatment of this degenerative disease. The objectives of this article are to review the literature available on molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying HBOT and its efficacy in treating AD and to review the effectiveness of HBOT as an alternate treatment intervention in both human and animal models. 391 full text articles were included in the review after literature search between 1980–2021 from two online data base (ScienceDirect and PubMed). The following key words were used: ‘hyperbaric oxygen therapy’ and ‘Alzheimer disease.’ Based on the outcomes of clinical and experimental studies, this review advocates the use of HBOT for the treatment of AD. This review explores future directions and recommends further research into a treatment protocol that will maintain long-term cognitive health of AD patients.

Background: The burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) that can potentially be dealt at tertiary care is increasing in developing countries including India which increase the out of pocket expenditure. Different health assurance schemes have been implemented in the state of Karnataka to provide access to quality tertiary medical care to all. The current study was undertaken to study the profile of mortality under these schemes as no information was available till date. Methods: Data of beneficiaries availing treatment in empanelled tertiary care hospitals under health assurance schemes was collected from Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust (SAST) online data base from April 2015 to March 2016 on 20 August 2016. Statistical analysis was done by data collection using Microsoft EXCEL 2010 and SPSS-20 version. Results: Majority of the beneficiaries (91.9%) were treated under Vajpayee Arogyashree Scheme. Deaths were more in beneficiaries of Mysore division with significant high mortality in burn patients. Nearly 63.2% of the beneficiaries were males and were in the age group of 15-60 years and higher hospital mortality was seen among infants (6.8%). Age less than one year, longer cardio pulmonary bypass time and longer aortic cross-clamp time are significantly (p<0.001) associated with hospital mortality in surgeries of congenital heart disease. Conclusions: Mortality in beneficiaries of health assurance schemes was more in infants, females, burn cases and in Mysore division.

Abstract Background Pediatric community acquired pneumonia (pedCAP) is one of the leading causes for childhood morbidity accounting for up to 20% of pediatric hospital admissions in high income countries. In spite of its high morbidity, updated epidemiological and pathogen data after introduction of preventive vaccination and novel pathogen screening strategies are limited. Moreover, there is a need for validated recommendations on diagnostic and treatment regimens in pedCAP. Through collection of patient data and analysis of pathogen and host factors in a large sample of unselected pedCAP patients in Germany, we aim to address and substantially improve this situation. Methods pedCAPNETZ is an observational, multi-center study on pedCAP. Thus far, nine study centers in hospitals, outpatient clinics and practices have been initiated and more than 400 patients with radiologically confirmed pneumonia have been enrolled, aiming at a total of 1000 study participants. Employing an online data base, information on disease course, treatment as well as demographical and socioeconomical data is recorded. Patients are followed up until day 90 after enrollment; Comprehensive biosample collection and a central pedCAPNETZ biobank allow for in-depth analyses of pathogen and host factors. Standardized workflows to assure sample logistics and data management in more than fifteen future study centers have been established. Discussion Through comprehensive epidemiological, clinical and biological analyses, pedCAPNETZ fills an important gap in pediatric and infection research. To secure dissemination of the registry, we will raise clinical and scientific awareness at all levels. We aim at participating in decision making processes for guidelines and prevention strategies. Ultimately, we hope the results of the pedCAPNETZ registry will help to improve care and quality of life in pedCAP patients in the future.

Abstract Companies are increasingly implementing sustainable solutions as they face a growing sustainability demands from different stakeholders. The question is whether car manufacturers adhered to sustainable production principles and at what level they are doing it in practice. The Lowell Center for Sustainable Production (LCSP) is used as a model to analyse the main aspects of sustainable production and assess the companies in the automotive sector in European Union. The data was collected from the Corporate Social Responsibility/ Sustainability reports of the individual car manufacturers found in the online data base of Global Reporting Initiative. Empirical evidence shows the adherence of these companies to the LCSP sustainable production principles. All the studied companies seem to be conscious of the significance of sustainability for the automotive industry. Although most of the sustainable production practices are focused on the environmental dimension of sustainability, employee and social aspects are not ignored in the reports.
