Use of Industrially Produced Synthetic Slag at Třinecké Železárny, A.S. The paper summarises experience with using synthetic slags on the CaO - Al2O3 oxide basis in the technological flow of the oxygen converter steelworks in TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY, a.s. These slags are used as an alternative to slags containing fluorspar which unfavourably affects both the service life of ladle linings and the steelwork's working environment. The content gives the first knowledge of using the Refraflux type synthetic slag to desulphurize steel, and it also provides a basic statistical evaluation of the heat produced.

The working environment of agricultural cutting tools is poor, and the operational quality and efficiency are reduced after they become blunt. This study aimed to develop a high wear-resistant agriculture knife with a long life. A Ni–WC alloy, wear-resistant layer was prepared using laser cladding technology on one side of the cutting edge of a 65 Mn silage knife. A self-grinding edge was formed when the cladded knife was used, which improved the cutting quality and service life of the knife. The microstructure, phase, composition, and hardness distribution of the cladding layer were detected and analyzed. The impact toughness and wear resistance of the laser-cladded samples were analyzed, and the cladded knife was tested in the field. The results show that a cladded layer with a dense microstructure formed metallurgical bonds with the substrate. The microhardness was uniform across the cladded layer, and the average hardness of the micro Vickers was approximately 1000 HV(0.2), which was approximately three times the hardness of the substrate. The impact toughness and wear resistance of the coated knife were obviously higher than those of uncoated knives. The field tests showed that compared with a conventional 65 Mn knife, the self-grinding knife with laser cladding could maintain its sharp cutting shape after operation for 76 h, which greatly extended the service life of the knife. This study improved the service life of an agricultural cutting tool, which enhanced the cutting performance and efficiency at the same time.

Abstract In this paper we discuss the possibility of increasing service life of tools used in forestry for mulching of undesirable forest growths. In a heterogeneous working environment in which they are operated, such tools are subjected to constant abrasion and impact loading. There are several ways how to extend their service life and operational fitness. One of these is hard surface treatment, or hard surfacing of their functional surfaces. In our experiment, we chose suitable hard surfacing materials and applied these on the sample materials using the MMA and MAG welding. The hard surface was applied in an one layer. Subsequently, we performed hardness tests, microscopic analysis of the structure of the basic material and the hard surface and evaluation of the fusion penetration of the base material with the hard surfacing weld. Fusion is crucial as it determines the cohesiveness of the weld and base materials and thus also the actual extension of the service life of the tools.

The goal of this paper is to show some trends and time profiles of the reliability index relevant to the Serviceability Limit State considering the design service life of RC structures. The interactive web page “RC_LifeTime” – originated by the authors – is used (see http://www.stm.fce.vutbr.cz/). The depassivation of reinforcing steel due to carbonation is considered conservatively as a limiting condition. It is based on model concrete carbonation with 12 random input variables; the Latin Hypercube Sampling simulation method is used. RC_LifeTime offers the following options: Service Life Assessment – a statistical evaluation of service life, where optionally the target value of reliability index ß may be an additional input value and then the corresponding service life is the output value; Concrete Cover Assessment – a statistical evaluation of concrete cover value for the target service life, where optionally the required concrete cover value may be input in this case and the relevant reliability index ß describes the reliability of reinforcement depassivation.
