This paper investigates the possibility of reproducing Braille by UV ink-jet printing on self-adhesive labels, previously printed by flexo printing technol- ogy. The aim was to determine whether it is possible to reproduce Braille, the degree of quality of created Braille dots (cells), the legibility of Braille text, and how many layers of varnish are necessary for quality reproduc- tion. The Braille letter was applied to the previously printed label (design) using 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 layers of varnish. It has been found that it is possible to reproduce a quality and legible Braille. With the increase in the number of layers, the assessment of legibility and quality of reproduction by the respondents also increased. Samples reproduced with 12 layers of varnish received a very good grade of legibility and good grade for quality of Braille. Samples reproduced with 8 and 10 layers received bad grades for legibility, and even worse for quality, while samples with a higher number of layers of varnish, 14 and 16, received even better grades. The threshold for quality reproduction would therefore be the use of 12 layers of varnish, where a good ratio of workmanship and economy is obtained.

The era of environmental protection and personalization has become increasingly prominent, and people not only focus on the beauty of the design, but also pay more attention to the quality of the clothing. For inkjet printing, the viscosity and surface tension of ink are major factors that affect the quality of ink-jet printing. In order to obtain a better print quality, the samples of five different viscosity and surface tension of ink were prepared respectively by changing the content of the resin and the surface active agent. Using these samples to print on the fabric by Epson printer, and to discuss the influence of the ink in different viscosity and surface tension on the ink-jet printing quality, such as apparent color depth (K / S), color parameters (L, C), permeability, clarity. The results showed that: with the increase of the ink viscosity, the apparent depth of color yield increased gradually and became darker in color. L value decreased gradually and had a increasing trend, and tends to be stable. C value increased and vividness of the color was improved. And it also had a certain impact on the infiltration resistance and clarity. Surface tension also had a significant impact on the depth of the apparent color, vividness of the color and directly affected the ink permeability and clarity.

With many years of research, color ink-jet printing technology has reached the requirements of color ink-jet printing. The significance of this experiment is to find a suitable method to improve the quality of color ink-jet printing paper. In this work, the dispersion effect and types of sodium polyacrylate (PAAS) on nano-SiO2 solution are discussed, and the most suitable PAAS dosage is selected. When the dosage of PAAS is 8%, the dispersibility of nano-SiO2 solution is much better, with an average color density of 1.60, a gloss of 59% and an ink absorption value of 10.2 cm. Adhesives also have a great influence on color ink-jet printing paper. When the amount of PVA is 30% of nano-SiO2, the average color density is 1.62. Glossiness and ink absorption are also the best.

Digital inkjet printing has been widely used in textile industry. The quality of dye solutions and ink-jet droplets limits the ink-jet printing performance, which is very important for obtaining high-quality ink-jet printing images on fabrics. In this paper, we introduced diethylene glycol (DEG) into the dye solutions of Reactive Blue 49 and Reactive Orange 13, respectively, and investigated the interaction between dye chromophores and DEG molecules. Results indicated that the dye chromophores were featured in the aggregation. Adding DEG into the dye solution could effectively disaggregate clusters of reactive dyes, and eliminate satellite ink droplets, thus improving the resolution of the ink-jet printing image on fabrics. Under the same DEG concentration, the disaggregation effect was more obvious in Orange 13 than in Reactive Blue 49. Higher DEG concentration was required in Reactive Orange 13 solution for creating complete and stable ink drops. The surface tension and viscosity of the dye solutions were measured, and printing performance on cotton fabrics was evaluated. The interaction mechanism between dye chromophores and DEG molecules was also investigated. Results from this work are useful for high-quality ink-jet printing images on fabrics.

The quality of ink-jet printing depends to a large extent on the technical characteristics of the selected equipment and the surface properties of the printed substrates. It is known that for digital printing it is necessary to use expensive paper with a special coating that determines the degree of gloss of the surface. Therefore, ordinary offset papers before ink-jet printing are covered with primers that ensure good fixation of pigment ink or dye on paper, a wide field of color coverage, characteristic gloss, which generally contribute to high quality of imprints. As you can see, the type of the substrate and the state of its surface has a very great influence on the quality of the imprints. Result of the research, it has been confirmed that not only expensive paper of a special purpose can be used for a drop ink-jet digital printing. High-quality color imprints can also be obtained on ordinary offset and coated paper, coated before printing with special primers based on interpolymeric complexes of polyvinyl alcohol, which will provide sufficient optical density, contrast of images, and expand the possibilities of digital ink-jet printing.

In the process of the ink drops forming and spreading out, the viscosity and surface tension of the ink play an important role, and then the drops’ injection and printing quality will be influenced by this process. Besides, drops control technology is the key of ink-jet printing technology, and the drops’ injection state will also influence the printing quality. In order to research the influencing factors to printing quality, many samples with different performances are prepared and their drop states include speed, tail length and volume are measured with drop observatory. And then, the specimen pages include lines of different width are printed, order to assessment the printing quality comprehensively, their line width, raggedness, blurriness, density and contrast are measured. The result show that the inks with different performance show different speed, tail length and volume, and their corresponding printing qualities are different too, and there exists linear relationship between printing quality and the drops’ viscosity, surface tension and speed.

Ink-jet printing is a non-contact printing, drops are jetted on the substrates to form images through the nozzles at a certain speed. Dot is the smallest unit in printing; the qualities of printing are seriously affected by dot gain. Ink spreading and penetration are discussed in this paper, influences on dot gain in ink-jet printing are studied, the original Young's equation and Washburn formula are theoretically amended, more scientific and rational models and formulas are obtained in the actual process of ink-jet printing, which offers reference standard and theoretical basis to improve the quality of ink-jet printing.

Compared with conventional surface sizing agents, polymers surface size agents are good film and printing quality. In this work, different types of SMA (Styrene Maleic Anhydride) from the United States Hercules and Sartomer companies were investigated. Firstly, each of SMA sizing agents was studied respectively for choosing the optimized SMA depending on the improvement of physical and ink-jet printing properties, and then the effects of different formulation surface size agents containing the optimum SMA and cationic starch on paper and ink-jet printing properties were also studied in order to analyzing the synergism effects of the two surface size agents. The results show that S520 was better than several other SMA surface sizing agents in the improvement of physical properties and ink-jet printing performance of paper. S520 could produce good film property which could reduce the paper permeability, improve smoothness have less loss whiteness and opacity. It could also enhance the color density, expand the scope of the dark tone and improve dots clarity degree of printed paper.
