Illicit use of intellectual property violates the rights of the person/company that owns it. The expertise of intellectual property in many ways helps to restore justice in cases of rights violation. To conduct such expertise the knowledge of not only the intellectual property rights is required, but also of the activity to which the disputed intellectual property belongs. The article discusses some approaches to assessment of the market value of intellectual property, for instance it is assumed that when calculating the discount rate of intellectual property (for example, a brand), a company’s weighted average cost of capital (WACC) can be used. A hypothesis is substantiated that the methodology for determining discount rates using the “traditional” approach, when the discount rate takes all risks into account and is applied to the most probable values of the income measure, is based on the direct observations on the capital value market for a business. It is noted that the discount rate for intangible assets not necessarily should differ from that for a business. Thus, WACC assessment method is a discount rate for the invested capital. The method of estimating the discount rate based on WACC, shows the rate of return to be paid for the use of investment capital. The latter may consist of two sources of financing: own capital and debt capital. The article provides a thorough and detailed analysis of the WACC and notes that it can be used in both financial and investment analysis to assess future returns on investments, considering the initial conditions for profitability of investment capital.

We have considered results of the recent investigations aimed at development of scientific/methodical base for water resources value assessment within the framework of academic support of the “Federal plan of statistical works” realization. Indicators of the water resources value assessment will enable to solve a number of problems of state management of the water/economic complex: to perfect the mechanism for water resources accounting in the system of national accounts; to secure the water resources balanced use; to develop more rational system of charges for water use; to support adoption of the water-saving regime; and to perfect the mechanism of identification for water resources depletion. Methodic approach to the water resources value assessment is differentiated depending on the direction of the assessment results use. Necessity and adequacy of the income assessment method recommended by SNS-2008 was determined for purposes of national accounting at the current stage of the natural/resources component statistic accounting system development. A method of total (integrated) assessment of the water bodies resources potential economic value assessment has been proposed. Promising perspective directions of investigation in this sphere have been considered.

Sustainability assessments of cooling/lubrication-assisted advanced machining processes has been demanded by environment control agencies because it is an effective management tool for improving process sustainability. To achieve an effective and efficient sustainability evolution of machining processes, there is a need to develop a new method that can incorporate qualitative indicators to create a quantifiable value. In the present research work, a novel quantifiable sustainability value assessment method was proposed to provide performance quantification of the existing sustainability assessment methods. The proposed method consists of three steps: establishing sustainable guidelines and identifying new indicators, data acquisition, and developing an algorithm, which creates the Overall Performance Assessment Indicator (OPAI) from the sustainability assessment method. In the proposed algorithm, initially, both quantitative and qualitative sustainability indicators are normalized. After weight assignment and aggregation, the OPAI is obtained. The developed algorithm was validated from three literature case studies, and optimal cutting parameters were obtained. The present methodology provides effective guidelines for a machinist to enhance process performance and achieve process optimization. The study also offers a relationship between sustainable and machining metrics for the support of industrial sustainability.

Based on the conception of sensation seeking as a need rather than a temperamental trait ( Hammelstein, 2004 ), we present a new assessment method, the Need Inventory of Sensation Seeking (NISS), which is considered to assess a motivational disposition. Three studies are presented: The first examined the factorial structure and the reliability of the German versions of the NISS; the second study compared the German and the English versions of the NISS; and finally, the validity of the NISS was examined in a nonclinical study and compared to the validity of conventional methods of assessing sensation seeking (Sensation Seeking Scale – Form V; SSS-V). Compared to the SSS-V, the NISS shows better reliability and validity in addition to providing new research possibilities including application in experimental areas.
