Algal/cyanobacterial biofilm photobioreactors provide an alternative technology to conventional photosynthetic systems for wastewater treatment based on high biomass production and easy biomass harvesting at low cost. This study introduces a novel cyanobacteria-based biofilm photobioreactor and assesses its performance in post-treatment of brewery wastewater and biomass production. Two different supporting materials (glass/polyurethane) were tested to investigate the effect of surface hydrophobicity on biomass attachment and overall reactor performance. The reactor exhibited high removal efficiency (over 65%) of the wastewater’s pollutants (chemical oxygen demand, nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, orthophosphate, and total Kjeldahl nitrogen), while biomass per reactor surface reached 13.1 and 12.8 g·m−2 corresponding to 406 and 392 mg·L−1 for glass and polyurethane, respectively, after 15 days of cultivation. The hydrophilic glass surface favored initial biomass adhesion, although eventually both materials yielded complete biomass attachment, highlighting that cell-to-cell interactions are the dominant adhesion mechanism in mature biofilms. It was also found that the biofilm accumulated up to 61% of its dry weight in carbohydrates at the end of cultivation, thus making the produced biomass a suitable feedstock for bioethanol production.

AbstractClimate change and population increase are two challenges for crop production in the world. Hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) is considered an important nut regarding its nutritional and economic values. As a fact, the application of supporting materials as foliage sprays on plants will decrease biotic and abiotic stresses. In this study, the effects of salicylic acid (0, 1 mM and 2.5 mM) and kaolin (0, 3% and 6%) sprays were investigated on morphological, physiological, pomological, and biochemical characteristics of hazelnut. The results showed that 1 mM salicylic acid and 6% kaolin had the best effects on nut and kernel weight compared to control. Biochemical parameters such as chlorophyll a, b, a + b, and carotenoid contents showed that salicylic acid and kaolin improved pigment concentration. Proline and antioxidant contents such as phenolic acids, SOD, APX, and CAT enzyme activities increased by these applications. On the other hand, lipid peroxidation, protein content, and H2O2 content were decreased. Based on the tolerance index result, Merveille de Bollwiller cultivar showed the highest tolerance while 'Fertile de Coutard' had the lowest value. Therefore, hazelnut performance may be improved through exogenous application of the signaling (salicylic acid) and particle film (Kaolin) compounds in warmer climates.

The presented article is devoted to the ethnographic study of the crafts reflected in Azerbaijani proverbs. One of the steps taken in the direction of comprehensive research of ethnographic science is the involvement of examples of oral folk art in scientific research. The proverbs that are part of them are important as an auxiliary source. Thus, from the proverbs it is possible to get some information about the historically formed fields of art as an ethnographically necessary issue. According to the proverbs of the Azerbaijani people, it is possible to determine what arts the population is traditionally engaged in on the basis of supporting materials and comparative analysis. According to Azerbaijani proverbs, master apprentice relations, blacksmithing, armaments, jewelry, blacksmithing, tailoring, hat-making, dyeing, tanning, embroidery, weaving, carpet weaving, weaving, carpentry were confirmed in our country and their important place in the life of the population. Chapter 10 provides an introduction to the organization of the Simplified Sign System lexicon and its supporting materials. This chapter explains the various conventions used in the sign illustrations so that learners can accurately interpret the drawings, including the numbering of initial, intermediate, and final positions; the size, shape, and repetition of arrows, quotes, and other marks that depict the sign’s movement; and the provision of facial expressions on signs that convey emotional information. Drawings and expanded written descriptions of the handshapes used in the Simplified Sign System are provided, along with information on how prevalent each handshape is in the system and a sampling of the particular meanings that a handshape can convey within the system. Drawings and written descriptions of the various palm orientations and finger/knuckle orientations used in the system are provided as well so that family members, educators, and other professionals will be able to accurately interpret each sign’s written description. Also discussed in this chapter are the memory aids provided with each sign, natural variations in sign formation and production that are to be expected, as well as what to do if a sign learner has functional use of only one hand and arm.

This article describes the development and implementation of a comprehensive Program Evaluation Strategy by the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts (DETA). It discusses the key stages adopted in this change management strategy by drawing upon characterisations of effective innovations. The Program Evaluation Strategy adopted by DETA was based on a change management model rather than a compliance approach. The evaluation strategy incorporated a number of elements: the overall strategy, an evaluation manual providing supporting materials and templates, evaluation training for staff, and specific provision of advice and assistance in evaluation. The article argues that this multifaceted approach has fostered an evaluative culture within the agency and been critical in supporting the influence and use of evaluation.
