In a networked market, firms build and develop their relationships with surrounding exchange partners. Despite extensive research on relationships, there is still great potential for researchers to undertake a novel approach to address issues in the field. This study explores the relationship development process of foreign firms operating in China. A fundamental claim of the study is that although the economic and social contents in business relationships are outlined in the extant literature, empirical research treating them as distinguishable and examining them in a separate manner remains uncommon. In response to this, a two-dimensional view is presented to understand relationships and their development processes, by analysing the economic and social aspects separately. Particularly, the study focuses on comparisons between Asian firms and Western firms, between small and large firms, and between manufacturing and service firms, and investigates their differences in developing the economic and social dimensions in the relationship development context.

The study contains two phases, Phase 1 and Phase 2, undertaking qualitative and quantitative approaches, respectively. In Phase 1, the two-dimensional view is examined in the Chinese setting, and results show that foreign firms put different emphases on the economic and social aspects in developing their local relationships; in Phase 2, it is found that some of the underlying assumptions from the literature that are associated with the three comparisons noted above need to be reconsidered. For example, Western foreign firms appear to emphasise the social aspect of their relationships more than their Asian counterpart at the start of the relationship. Similarly, larger firms and manufacturing firms nurture social content more than their smaller and service counterparts, respectively. These findings are contrary to some of the accepted orthodoxies in regard to firms' relationship development. The results from these two phases respond to the two research questions underpinning the study: 1) Do foreign firms operating in China emphasise their economic ties and social bonds differently in developing business relationships? 2) Are there any differences in the relationship development process of firms that have different nationality and size, and which operate in different industry sectors, with respect to the economic ties and social bonds? If yes, then what are these differences? Discussion of the results for these two questions ties back to the broad research problem of the study – how do foreign firms develop their business relationships in China with local actors? In presenting the findings and insights, the study contributes to the literature in a number of ways that are outlined in the thesis. Most notably, it makes a contribution to the relationship literature, by proposing and confirming the two-dimensional approach to relationship formation and development. Secondly, by exploring foreign firms' relationships in China, the study contributes to the international business literature, providing insights into differences between different types of foreign firms.

In the field of tissue engineering, a bioreactor is a valuable instrument that mimics a physiological environment to maintain live tissues in vitro. Although bioreactors are conceptually relatively simple, the vast majority of current bioreactors (commercial and custom-built) are not fully adapted to current research needs. Designing the optimal bioreactor requires a very thorough approach to a series of steps in the product development process. These four basic steps are: (1) identifying the needs and technical requirements, (2) defining and evaluating the related concepts, (3) designing the apparatus and drawing up the blueprints, and (4) building and validating the apparatus. Furthermore, the design has to be adapted to the specific purpose of the research and how the tissues will be used. In the emerging field of bioreactor research, roadmaps are needed to assist tissue engineering researchers as they embark on this process. The necessary multidisciplinary expertise covering micromechanical design, mechatronics, viscoelasticity, tissue culture, and human ergonomics is not necessarily available to all research teams. Therefore, the challenge of adapting and conducting each step in the product development process is significant. This paper details our proposal for a roadmap to accompany researchers in identifying their needs and technical requirements: step one in the product development process. Our roadmap proposal is set up in two phases. Phase 1 is based on the analysis of the bioreactor use cycle and phase 2 is based on the analysis of one specific and critical step in the use cycle: conducting stimulation and characterization protocols with the bioreactor. A meticulous approach to these two phases minimizes the risk of forgetting important requirements and strengthens the probability of acquiring or designing a high performance bioreactor.

The research was organized in two phases: in the first, a survey was carried out on online platforms of academic productions in visual arts, focusing on two-dimensional work, using the descriptors “arte popular” and “estética latina” resulting in three articles. In the second phase, two works were selected by an artist from Bolivia, participating in the exhibition “Conexão Santa Cruz”, held during FASP 2018, which were analyzed at their representational and symbolic levels. Through the interpretation of the images, it was possible to construct a reading on the artist’s perspective regarding her cultural conditions within the social order in which she is located. Keywords: Visual Arts. The article deals with the relationship between the terms «word of the year» and «neologism of the year», and the examples are the words, annually nominating as «word of the year», and neologisms of the last few years. The main research methods are statistical, comparative, and lexicographic description. Usually nomination «Word of the year» presents words, long-existing in the Russian language, borrowings, as well as author’s occasionalisms. The cultural and social aspects prevail in this campaign, while linguistic aspects are not involved. It seems that the verbal image of the year is a more complex and mosaic phenomenon. It can be reconstructed with the help of representative linguistic data scrupulously collected by lexicographers.

The paper discusses the problems of fading and ending of business relationships in the sphere of professional services i.e. the phase of a relationship dissolution resulting from a client's or a firm's decision to end it. This phase includes, among others, determining the causes of the relationship dissolution and drawing conclusions for the future in order to prevent losing the most lucrative clients. Both in theory and in practice, relationship ending is perceived as something stretched in time i.e. consisting of numerous stages and influenced by numerous factors and events. The aim of the present paper is an analysis of the modern literature on the causes and mechanisms of business relationships termination in the sphere of professional services as well as indicating some possibilities of a more effective and efficient management of these relations.

This study focuses on the perceived quality of participatory event experiences by addressing the following question: What are the important aspects of the event experience? The aim of this research is to develop and refine a scale to measure the quality of the event experience for runners at a participatory event. The objective is to combine, apply, test, and refine the existing scales to increase our understanding of the perceived quality of events among amateur running athletes. Both affective and cognitive dimensions are included in the scale. Based on seven dimensions and 36 items, a formal scale development process is adopted. The data consist of 1,923 observations collected during a participatory event with approximately 60,000 registered participants. The seven-factor model, including immersion, surprise, participation, fun, social aspects, hedonic aspects, and service quality, was gradually revised in favor of a four-factor solution: service quality, hedonic aspects, fun, and immersion. As a result, 73.1% of the variance is extracted. This study contributes to a refined scale measuring the perceived event quality of participatory events. Service quality accounts for more than half of the variance extracted. Researchers should continue to develop research on the critical experiential dimensions in an event context. Furthermore, the links between the constructs need attention. The results suggest that event organizers should evaluate their events and event portfolios based on the scale and take actions to increase the perceived quality of these events.
