The article considers the botanical collections of the exposition herbarium of the Moscow State University Earth Science Museum, presented in the departments “Natural Zones” (halls No. 17-20) and “Physical and geographical areas” (halls No. 21-24). 732 herbarium samples of plants and lichens belong to 583 species (including 549 species of vascular plants, 16 mosses and 18 lichens), 336 genera (319 vascular plants, 11 mosses and six lichens) and 110 families (97 vascular plants, eight mosses and five lichens). As a biocollection of dried plant samples, as a resource for storing and studying biodiversity, and as a component of the natural botanical exposition of the MSU Earth Science Museum, the herbarium demonstrates the richness and diversity of flora and vegetation of Russia and the world, enabling its accessibility for research and the educational activities of the Museum.

The article discusses the use of live plants as the botanical exposition component supplement of the “Natural areas” (hall № 17 “Natural zonality and its components” and № 20 “Desert, subtropical, tropical countries, high-altitude zone”) and “Physico-georaphic regions” (hall № 24 “Continents and parts of the world”) departments in order to visualize information presented in the Earth Science Museum. Demonstration of plants originating from different regions of the world representing different life forms and being structural components of various plant communities allows to visually characterizing thematic aspects of an exposition. That in turn reveal such principles of systematic nature organization as ecobiomorphic and phytocenotic.

The new exhibition is located in Hall 5 «Geotectonics» in the Earth Science Museum at Moscow State University and devoted to an urgent problem of volcanic manifestations in areas of hot spots. Among the large number of active volcanoes on our planet, a significant place is occupied by volcanoes of hot spots and mantle plumes, which are characterized by the eruption of a huge amount of pyroclastic material (Hawaii, Yellowstone) and often form large igneous provinces (Eastern Siberia, Kerguelen, Deccan, Iceland). The exhibition presents geological samples from the funds and collections of the museum staff. All samples are characteristic of hot spot volcanoes and mantle plumes from different regions of the world.

The paper is focused on characteristics of the peltaspermalean pteridosperms from the Lower Permian (Kungurian stage) of the Mazuevka locality (Kishert District of the Perm region, Russia). The paper is based on the material kept in the paleobotanical collection of the Earth Science Museum of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The peltasperm seed-bearing organ is characterized for the Mazuevka locality for the first time. This organ is preliminarily determined in open nomenclature as Peltaspermum sp. General considerations by the present authors on the possible entomophily of at least some representatives of peltaspermalean pteridosperms are given.

The volume includes materials of the Annual All-Russian Scientific Conference with international participation «Science in the University Museum», held in the Earth Science Museum of Moscow State University, November 17–19, 2020.
