Scholarly disagreement about preaching has suffered confusion due to definitions of the subject that do not sufficiently consider the diversity of that interdisciplinary field of study. This article provides a summary of historical perspectives that is more comprehensive than any such summary in recent literature. That overview leads to suggestions for investigating what preaching is and does.

Until the 1980s, the study of the history of cartography was defined by two idealizations: (1) that maps are strictly factual statements and (2) that cartography is an innately progressive science that serves as a surrogate for Western civilization as a whole. Then, the recognition that maps are actually cultural texts made for specific functions transformed map history into an exciting, interdisciplinary field of study. Scholars across the humanities and social sciences now seek to understand how past peoples thought about and acted in their particular worlds. The result is a substantial literature, which in many respects resembles a multifaceted iceberg: each disciplinary perspective reveals only the tip. In taking a series of selective and topical cuts through the recent literature, this bibliography cannot take every new perspective into account. Necessarily excluded are the older literature, which despite its conceptual flaws, contains a wealth of important information; narratives of the development of maps of specific regions (“The Mapping of X”); and cartobibliographies (mostly regional in scope).

The materials range from photographic to thermoplastic and magnetic, and the interactions with the electron beam for writing and reading the information utilize the energy, or the current, or even the magnetic field associated with the electron beam.

The Subject

Content management is an organisational effort of managing content, particularly in digital format. Although it has been over 25 years since content management was introduced, this field of study is still considered an emerging topic with unresolved issues-in particular, the subject of benefit achievement. Therefore, grounded on an extensive review of 135 articles, the purpose of this study is to investigate the benefits that organisations can gain through the proper use of an Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS). Subsequently, this paper identifies a list of ECMS benefits and proposes an ECMS benefit framework for further exploration into this field. Our result shows that although ECMS does bring benefits to organisations, these benefits are diverse; indicating that there are certain determinants or factors influencing the achievement of such benefits. Moreover, it is also found that in the context of the benefit framework of Shang and Seddon [10], three categories were found relevant to the field of content management: operational benefit, managerial benefit, and strategic benefit.

ABSTRACTJacques Laforest provides an introduction to gerontology viewed as an interdisciplinary field of study and reflection on old age. Old age is defined from a developmental perspective as two opposite yet complementary processes: those of decline and growth. The final stage of life is marked by an existential crisis of one's identity, autonomy and belonging. Researchers and specialists from all disciplines are invited to contribute towards an understanding and a resolution of this crisis. The purpose of this publication is to initiate the process of integrating knowledge and reflections on gerontology. This goal is achieved.

After giving a summary of recent literature on the subject, the author then proceeded to state the nature of the material which he had employed in the present investigation.The bird selected was the common fowl (Gallus domest.), and he had examined a series of microscopic sections through the limbs from the fourth day of incubation to the day of hatching.The mammalian embryos examined were mice and rabbits, and the fingers of the human fœtus from an embryo approaching the full period of uterogestation.

In the “Nederlandsche Tÿdschrift voor Geneeskunde” for February, 1888, there is to be found an article under the above heading (“A Contribution to the Study of the Treatment of Epilepsy”) which is worthy of some consideration, for it discusses a subject which has received but scant notice at the hands of medical men, viz., the influence of electricity on the epileptic state. The success achieved by Dr. Niermeÿer in the treatment of the cases he cites would be a sufficient inducement for attempting by the method he advocates, if not the permanent cure, at least the amelioration of the condition of such patients in private and hospital practice, and before the consequent psychical change had introduced a new element in to the affection; but it would also be opening up a new field of study if a careful trial could be given, and the results published, of the effect of Niermeÿer's process on a series of favourable epileptic cases resident in asylums, the affection in such being independent of organic brain lesion. The practical importance of the subject justifies a quotation of Niermeÿer's contribution in extenso:—
