The oceanographic data collected along a transect in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Qatar during late summer (September 2014) and winter (January 2015) have been analyzed to investigate the spatial and temporal variability of hydrography and biogeochemistry. The study reveals that stratification is dominant in the deep-water regions during September, with a vertical variation of around 9 °C from surface to bottom. However, the water column remains in homogeneity during January due to strong wind mixing and surface cooling. The dissolved oxygen (DO) in the upper layer of the EEZ is on a reasonable range in both the seasons, while they gradually decrease with respect to depth in the mid and bottom layers during January. This leads to hypoxic conditions in summer. Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a ) is relatively high during summer in the offshore region, while that in the nearshore regions is very low. The variability in the physical and biogeochemical parameters has shown significant effects in primary productivity in the EEZ of Qatar.

Suplay massa air di Laut Filipina dan Maluku bagian utara berasal dari Samudera Pasifik. Variabilitas klorofil-a (chl-a) dapat dipengaruhi oleh suplay massa air dari suatu wilayah atau pengaruh interaksi atmosfer dan laut. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menjelaskan pengaruh interaksi atmosfer-laut terhadap variabilitas chl-a secara spasial dan temporal. Data yang digunakan yaitu data citra satelit dengan periode 2003-2019 dan argo float. Hasil menunjukkan chl-a di Laut Filipina selalu berada dibawah 0,1 mg/m3 di sepanjang tahun dan Laut Maluku bagian utara mengalami peningkatan saat musim timur (0,27 mg/m3). Kenaikan chl-a di Laut Maluku bagian utara diikuti dengan kenaikan kecepatan angin (musim timur) yang menyebabkan Ekman Mass Transport (EMT). EMT bergerak kearah timur laut yang membawa massa air menjauhi pantai dan terjadi proses coastal upwelling. Coastal upwelling inilah menjadi faktor utama peningkatan chl-a di Laut Maluku bagian utara. Sebaliknya, kenaikan kecepatan angin di Laut Filipina tidak membangkitkan EMT dan tidak meningkatkan chl-a.  Chl-a yang stabil di sepanjang tahun di Laut Filipina membuktikan kecepatan angin kuat tidak terlalu dominan untuk mempengaruhi variabilitas chl-a. Rendahnya chl-a kemungkinan disebakan oleh massa air dari Samudera Pasifik yang dibawa oleh Arus Lintas Indonesia (ARLINDO). Water mass supply in the Philippine Sea and northern Maluku derived from the Pasific Ocean. The variability of chlorophyll-a (chl-a) was affected by the supply of water mass from the area or the impact of air and sea interactions. This study aimed to define the effect of air-sea interaction on the spatial and temporal variability of chl-a. The required data in this study was satellite image data with the period 2003-2019 and argo float. The results showed that chl-a in the Philippine Sea was always below 0.1 mg / m3 throughout the year and the northern Maluku Sea increased during the eastern monsoon (0.27 mg / m3). The increasing of chl-a in the northern Maluku Sea was followed by the increasing of wind speed (east monsoon) which impacted the Ekman Mass Transport (EMT). EMT moved to the northeast carrying the water mass away from the coast and turned up coastal upwelling process. Coastal upwelling was the main factor of chl-a increasing in the North Maluku Sea. In otherwise, wind speed increasing in the Philippine Sea caused vertical mixing (west monsoon) but did not increase chl-a. The stable value of chl-a throughout the years in the Philippine Sea verified that strong wind speeds are not too dominant to affect the variability of chl-a.. The low chl-a was probably caused by the water mass from the Pacific Ocean that carried by Indonesian Through Flow (ARLINDO).

The jumbo flying squid, Dosidicus gigas, support an important squid fishery off the Exclusive Economic Zone of Chilean waters. However, we only have limited information about their biology. In this study, age, growth and population structure of D. gigas were studied using statoliths from 533 specimens (386 females and 147 males) randomly sampled in the Chinese squid jigging surveys from 2007 to 2008 off the Exclusive Economic Zone of Chile. Mantle lengths (MLs) of the sample ranged from 206 to 702 mm, and their ages were estimated from 150 to 307 days for females and from 127 to 302 days for males. At least two spawning groups were identified, the main spawning peak tended to occur between August and November (austral spring group), and the secondary peak appeared during March to June (austral autumn group). The ML–age relationship was best modelled by a linear function for the austral spring group and a power function for the austral autumn group, and the body weight (BW)–age relationship was best described by an exponential function for both the groups. Instantaneous relative growth rates and absolute growth rates for ML and BW did not differ significantly between the two groups. The growth rate of D. gigas tended to be high at young stages, and then decreased after the sub-adult stage (>180 days old). This study suggests large spatial and temporal variability in key life history parameters of D. gigas, calling for the collection of more data with fine spatial and temporal scales to further improve our understanding of the fishery biology of D. gigas.

<p>in Indonesia is a region bordering the sea region of Indonesia determined by the law which included sea bed, land under it and water above it with the limit of 200miles. This is measured from Indonesian line of the sea.This whole time a lot of people see the shoreline as the sea border. This perspective makes us alienated and lack of knowledge to take advantage of the sea. This understanding also conjures the idea sea toll, to confirm that Indonesia is maritime country. Sea toll means building sea transportation with ships or sea logistic system which will serve nonstop back and forth from Sabang to Merauke. One of the factors to support this is by building ports (deep sea port) order to give faraway to big ships. A course that spreading as far as 5,000 kilometers or an eighth circumference of the earth One of the purposes of sea toll is to move the economy as efficient and evenly as possible. With the hope that, there will be ships back and forth on Indonesian water, so logistics cost will be cheap. That is why; sea toll is one of President Joko Widodo’s priorities which are also meant to develop Indonesia as maritime country and develop Indonesia as national unity.
