Information technology plays an increasingly important role in the medical working environment. Besides facilitating improvements in the quality of health care, it might also bear some unwished effects. Examining the „m aking? of a diagnosis and the role it plays in m odern m edicine leads to the question how far this pro cess of „diagn osing? m ig ht be affected b y the „tech nical su rroundings?. A num b er of exam ples from clin ical medicine in the hospital and the ambulatory sector illustrate the way IT is being utilised in modern medicine. A tw ofold negative effect could result from this „com p uterisation?: Firstly, the technical requirem ents for the use of IT might force the process of diagnosing to be adapted with subsequent wrong or altered diagnoses. Secondly, constraints like cost control might be facilitated by IT and thus its application might cause the doctors trying to avoid such pressures by modifying the diagnosis and potentially worsening treatment and outcome.

Over several decades, a wealth of expertise and experience in improving the quality of health care has accrued globally. Despite this wealth of expertise, the challenge that is often faced by country level policymakers in both high- and low-medium income countries is to know which quality policies are being implemented. The goal of this report is to highlight and critically evaluate quality metrics published in the literature for healthcare establishments. Its goal is to present an integrated quality model that combines both technical and supportive quality indicators in order to reach the highest level of patient satisfaction. As some of the priorities of doctors and nurses are to improve patient satisfaction and patient care in a healthcare system Out of all the most critical criterion for evaluating the quality of service offered to the customer by a service provider is customer satisfaction. The quality of patient care and patient satisfaction can be assessed by the quality of facilities and training, the expertise of staff and the reliability of operating processes indicating that if the personal rights and working environment of health workers are not improved, the quality of health care cannot be expected to increase.

In Crossing the Quality Chasm, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Committee on Quality of Health Care in America identified the critical role of information technology in designing a health system that produces care that is “safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable” (Committee on Quality of Health Care in America, 2001, p. 164). A subsequent IOM report contends that improved information systems are essential to a new health care delivery system that “both prevents errors and learns from them when they occur” (Committee on Data Standards for Patient Safety, 2004, p. 1). This review specifically highlights the role of informatics processes and information technology in promoting patient safety and summarizes relevant nursing research. First, the components of an informatics infrastructure for patient safety are described within the context of the national framework for delivering consumer-centric and information-rich health care and using the National Health Information Infrastructure (NHII) (Thompson & Brailer, 2004). Second, relevant nursing research is summarized; this includes research studies that contributed to the development of selected infrastructure components as well as studies specifically focused on patient safety. Third, knowledge gaps and opportunities for nursing research are identified for each main topic. The health information technologies deployed as part of the national framework must support nursing practice in a manner that enables prevention of medical errors and promotion of patient safety and contributes to the development of practice-based nursing knowledge as well as best practices for patient safety. The seminal work that has been completed to date is necessary, but not sufficient, to achieve this objective.

The emergence of knowledge management (KM) technologies has been enabling health care sectors to promote effective management of knowledge and provide evidence-based medicine for improving service deliveries. As a result, the health care industry is increasingly becoming a knowledge-based community that depends critically on using technologies to KM activities. This paper attempts to review various literatures and gives an intellectual background to the study from various studies conducted by different researchers on the thoughts of various KM technologies in health systems. According to the study, technologies play a prominent role in health care sectors in utilizing their organizational and personal knowledge effectively which in turn enhances the quality of health care services. The usage and practice of KM in the health sector is increasingly promoted due to the emergence of health information technology. There are number of information technology solutions that assist healthcare sectors in knowledge management. Health care portals, search engines, retrieval and classification tools, e-collaboration tools, content management systems and other technologies are widely employed to manage the massive and ongoing health information and share it with their users. Therefore, it is indispensable to pay special attention in using these technologies to manage organizational and individual knowledge available within and outside healthcare organization. Overall, this study has proved that information and communication technology are valuable to support and scale up knowledge management processes for the effectiveness and quality of health care services.

Introduction: The assessment of the health-care system by its beneficiaries is based on evaluation of the public perception in regards to the performance of healthcare workers, the functioning of the health system, the effectiveness of health policy measures, and a number of other components. The aim of this study was to determine patients’ trust in the work of physiotherapists and the health-care system; determine the quality of communication between the patient and the physiotherapist and determine the quality of cooperation between healthcare workers in the provision of health services. Methods: The study is descriptive, conducted in five cities: Banja Luka, Bihać, Herceg Novi, Nikšić, and Podujevo. The confidence in health-care questionnaire developed by Calnan and Sanford (2004) was used as a research instrument, containing six areas of research: Attitude toward the patient, Health policy and patient care, Professionalism and expertise, Quality of health care, Communication and information, and Quality of cooperation. Results: The mean age of the subjects was 41 years, 24 females and 26 males. Subjects expressed the greatest satisfaction on subscales I - Attitude toward the patient (27.44 ± 3.59 out of 30) and IV - Quality of health care (36.60 ± 4.19 out of 40), which represents 91.5% of the possible maximum. This is followed by subscale V - Communication and information (20.8 ± 3.17 out of 25) corresponding to 83.2% of the possible maximum, followed by subscale III - Professionalism and expertise (15.68 ± 3.29 out of 20) which represents 78.4% of the possible maximum. Subjects showed the least satisfaction on subscales II - Health policy and patient care (16.94 ± 5.56 out of 25), which represents 67.8% of the possible maximum, and subscales VI - Quality of cooperation (9.94 ± 0.42 out of 15) which corresponds to 66.3% of the possible maximum. Conclusions: The research showed a high degree of satisfaction of subjects in various fields, which indicates a high degree of confidence in the work of physiotherapists and the health-care system. Research on a larger sample in needed for creation and implementation of the guidelines in the strategic documents of the countries in the region and for improvement of health policies and patient care.
