Bhagat and Romano (2002a, 2002b) document the importance of event study analysis of equity returns in corporate governance. We extend their analysis with the argument that analysis of bond returns around important corporate events can provide additional important information. Such information is particularly important in the current active public discussions over corporate governance. We provide an example of event study analysis of bond returns examining the impact of large dividend changes on both stockholders and bondholders in an effort to differentiate between the information content (transparency) and possible wealth transfers (theft) around dividends. Our study replicates earlier studies on investment grade bonds with ambiguous results using a sample of noninvestment grade bonds. Our results suggest that for ordinary dividend changes, wealth expropriation is a significant explanation in the gain to stockholders.

Przedsiębiorstwa jako drogę wzrostu często wybierają transakcje połączeń z innymi podmiotami rynkowymi. Transakcje te wpływają na przyszłe zyski przedsiębiorstw, a przez to na cenę spółek. Celem opracowania jest analiza wpływu transakcji połączeń na wartość spółek przejmujących, notowanych na warszawskiej Giełdzie Papierów Wartościowych, w okresie 3 lat po ogłoszeniu transakcji. Badania dokonano metodą analizy zdarzeń (event study), w ramach której dokonano oceny wpływu ogłoszenia fuzji na nadzwyczajne stopy zwrotu z akcji BHAR. (abstrakt oryginalny)

This paper examines the abnormal returns in merger withdrawals in Australia, especially distinguishing the market response between private and public targets. We also study the determinants of those abnormal returns, including the method of payment and the impact of financial crisis periods. Using the event study method, we document that in the Australian context, the announced withdrawal of mergers involving private targets creates significantly negative valuation effects in comparison with the valuation effects in withdrawal of mergers involving public targets. We also find that a financial crisis period strongly affects abnormal returns of merger withdrawals. However, the method of payment does not have any impact on the abnormal returns.

Ketidakpastian politik sering menjadi peristiwa khusus yang berpengaruh terhadap return portofolio saham. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji pengaruh pengumuman pembentukan kabinet Indonesia Maju 2019-2024 terhadap harga saham yang terdaftar pada Indeks Syariah (ISSI) dan Indeks Harga Saham Gabungan (IHSG). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode event study untuk melihat adanya reaksi pasar yang dapat dilihat dari adanya abnormal return pada saham. Indikator yang digunakan adalah nilai average abnormal return (AAR) dan cumulative average abnormal return (CAAR). Hasil pada penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat nilai AAR yang negatif dan signifikan pada sehari sebelum (t-1) dan setelah (t+1) pengumuman menteri pada indeks syariah dan pasar. Selain itu, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan nilai cumulative average abnormal return (CAAR) sebelum dan sesudah pengumuman menteri pada t (-7,7) untuk portofolio ISSI dan t (-10,10) untuk portofolio IHSG. Adanya reaksi negatif invetor mengindikasikan terdapat kebingungan investor saham syariah terhadap menteri yang terpilih pada kabinet Indonesia Maju. Peristiwa ini diharapkan dapat membantu investor atau manajer investasi dalam menentukan strategi investasi pada saat terjadi ketidakpastian politik.

This paper aims to analyze the efficient stock market hypothesis as responsive to American Presidential Election, 2016. The meta-analysis has been done combining content analysis and event study methodology. The all major newspapers, news channels, public polls, literature and five important indices as Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), NASDAQ Stock Market Composit Indexe (NASDAQ-COMP), Standard & Poor's 500 Index (SPX-500), New York Stock Exchange Composite Index (NYSE-COMP) and Other U.S Indexes-Russell 2000 (RUT-2000) are critically examined and empirically analyzed. The findings from content analysis reflect that stunned winning of Mr Trump from Republican Party worked as shock for American stock market. From event study, findings confirmed that all the major indices reflected a decline on winning of Trump and losing of Ms. Clinton from Democratic. The results are supported empirically and practically through the political event like BREXIT that resulted in shock to Global stock index and loss of $2 Trillion.

Pasar modal dibangun dengan tujuan menggerakkan perekonomian suatu negara melalui kekuatanswasta dan mengurangi beban negara. Investasi merupakan penundaan konsumsi pada saat inidengan tujuan mendapatkan tingkat pengembalian (return) yang akan diterima di masa yang akandatang. Stock split dibuat untuk menambah likuiditas pergerakan saham dan memungkinkan investorritel masuk lebih banyak sehingga aktivitas volume perdagangan lebih meningkat. Fenomena yangterjadi dibeberapa perusahan yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia dibawah ini melakukan stocksplit dengan tujuan agar sahamnya menjadi likuid atau aktivitas volume perdagangan (trading volumeactivity) sahamnya makin besar setelah melakukan stock split, ternyata hal ini di Bursa EfekIndonesia tidak terjadi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode explonatorysurvey yang berdasarkan pada studi peristiwa (event study). Dengan menggunakan dua alat analisisyaitu analisis komparatif dan analisis jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaanyang tidak signifikan pada likuiditas saham dan return saham sebelum dan setelah stock split terjadi.Sedangkan stock split berpengaruh signifikan terhadap likuiditas saham. Likuditas sahamberpengaruh signifikan terhadap return saham. Jadi stock split melalui likuiditas saham berpengaruhsignifikan terhadap return saham.
