Effect of initial-link length on the sensitivity of the post-reinforcer delay

For a long time, post-reinforcer delays have been considered to have no effect on choice. The most influential choice models therefore do not consider such delays. Recently, however, some studies reported that post-reinforcer delays affect choice behavior in pigeons. One such study (Mazur, 2006) concluded that a short initial link increases the sensitivity to post-reinforcer delays in concurrent-chains schedules. However, this study did not use typical concurrent-chains schedule procedures, in which the number of reinforcements differs between alternatives, and did not systematically analyze the effect of the systematic post-reinforcer delay. The current study therefore examined whether the length of the initial link modulates the post-reinforcer delay effect on choice with standard concurrent-chains schedules and by systematically varying both the initial link and the post-reinforcer delay. As the results, the shorter the initial link length, the larger the effect of the post-reinforcer delay. Models with post-reinforcer delays predicted choice behavior better than models without, but pigeons were more insensitive to delays than the model prediction for long initial links. These findings provide important information for models on choice, and suggest that experiments should be designed with more caution with regards to post-reinforcer delays.

But how wekeep our information safe, well we have many ways to do that: in hard drive, removable disc etc. with otherorganizations they even have data centre to save their information. The objective of information security is to keep information safe from unwanted access. We applied Risk Mitigation Action framework on our data management system and after several months we have a result far better than before we use it: information more secure, quickly detect incidents, improve internal and external collaboration etc.

Optical sensors appear well adapted to the pollution measurement of urban discharges during wet weather: they allow a continuous and long time investigation of sudden and highly variable phenomena such as rainfall events. They may also be connected to remote monitoring and sanitary equipment automation systems. This paper deals with the measurement principles and use of this type of equipment: adjustment and calibration, sample collection, equipment maintenance and measurement validation. Taking into account the hydraulicity (flow rate or velocity) allows one to improve appreciably the calibration for runoff waters. Calibration at the laboratory seems better than calibration using registered data on the field, as it makes it possible to eliminate the Suspended Matter under-estimation resulting from sampling/analysis.

Geometric integrators allow preservation of specific geometric properties of the exact flow of differential equation systems, such as energy, phase-space volume, and time-reversal symmetry, and are particularly reliable for long-run integration. In this study, variable step size composition methods and Gauss methods are implemented in Matlab library integrators, and are tested with several representative problems, including the Kepler problem, the outer solar system and a conservative Lotka–Volterra system. Variable step size integrators often perform better than their fixed step size counterparts and the numerical results show excellent long time preservation of the Hamiltonian in these examples.

In recent years, Mao and his co-workers developed a class of finite-volume schemes for evolution partial differential equations, see [1-5].The schemes show a super-convergence quality and have good structure-preserving property in long-time numerical simulations. In [6], Chen and Ma developed a scheme which combine the idea of paper [5] and that of the the second-order ENO scheme [7]. In this paper, we propose a scheme which extend the result of [6] and obtain the scheme using the third-order ENO reconstruction. Numerical experiments show that our scheme is robust in long-time behaviors. Numerical solutions are far better than those of [6].

The stated preference experimental design can affect the reliability of the parameters estimation in discrete choice model. Some scholars have proposed some new experimental designs, such as D-efficient, Bayesian D-efficient. But insufficient empirical research has been conducted on the effectiveness of these new designs and there has been little comparative analysis of the new designs against the traditional designs. In this paper, a new metro connecting Chengdu and its satellite cities is taken as the research subject to demonstrate the validity of the D-efficient and Bayesian D-efficient design. Comparisons between these new designs and orthogonal design were made by the fit of model and standard deviation of parameters estimation; then the best model result is obtained to analyze the travel choice behavior. The results indicate that Bayesian D-efficient design works better than D-efficient design. Some of the variables can affect significantly the choice behavior of people, including the waiting time and arrival time. The D-efficient and Bayesian D-efficient design for MNL can acquire reliability result in ML model, but the ML model cannot develop the theory advantages of these two designs. Finally, the metro can handle over 40% passengers flow if the metro will be operated in the future.

The essay deals with moral problems in Proust’s A la recherche du temps perdu. The novel has been viewed by many as a survey of the ruling customs, as an outstanding psychological novel, as a study of human characters, and as a story of the decline of aristocracy. The description of facts has been noted in this way, but not the underlying idea. This essay shows Proust not only as an etologist (in this respect his importance is not controversial), but also as a moralist. The essay consists of three parts. The first one deals with Proust’s views connected with the theory of knowledge to be found in the novel. Special emphasis is put on the influence both of the atmosphere of his home and that of his time on the formation of Proust’s views, as his point of departure was the positivistic method as well as scientific and naturalistic approach to all events. Further, it should be stressed – and this has escaped many readers for a long time – that having applied his method Proust arrived at general conclusions which have proved to be in a sheer contradiction with this method. No writer of fiction before him has pointed out the importance of subjective factors in cognition better than he did. In defiance of positivism, Proust denies neither the existence of the essence of things nor of qualitative differences. Considerations relating to Proust’s analysis of the phenomenon of remembering and of different kinds of memory (with particular stress on analogous memory) show how important they were for fixing his views on the insufficiency and inadequacy of intellectual cognition as well as on discovering its falsifications, simplifications and utilitarian character. Both the world of common experience and common sense and that of science are worlds of delusion. These conceptions show a striking coincidence with those of Bergson.

Crude oils are favorable gas turbine fuels, particularly in areas where light crudes are available and distillates in sufficient quantities are difficult to obtain. In Riyadh, Saudiarabia, local Khurais crude oil is therefore certainly the most reasonable gas turbine fuel. This paper shows the long time experience with this type of fuel gathered in ten modern BBC type 11 turbines with a total of over 100,000 operating hours. The main problems and the measures taken to overcome these problems are described in detail. The operational record of the Riyadh 5 power plant of the last three years demonstrates that it is possible to run a powerplant without any diesel oil for blending or start up, e.g., and still to obtain availability and reliability numbers which are as good or better than for a diesel or gas fired plant.
