Bintan Island has a high potential for bauxite mining. Many ex-mining areas have not been reclaimed properly, resulting in erosion and accumulation of heavy metals Pb and Cr which are high in the sediment (red-mud) and deposited in the roots of mangrove forests on the coast of Bintan. Rhizophora mucronata is one of the species that dominates the Bintan mangrove forest. The purpose of this study was to determine the phytoaccumulation of Pb and Cr metals in R. mucronata in the former bauxite mining area ofBintan Island. This research was conducted by survey, digested and analysed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The concentrationof Pb and Cr in the sediment, as well as the roots, stems and leaves of R. mucronata were used for the analysis of phytoaccumulation types. The results of the Pb concentration test were higher than Cr. Based on the sampling location, the concentration of Pb metal accumulation in the sediment is Tembeling <Sei Carang <Wacopek <Senggarang, while Cr metal is Tembeling <Wacopek <Sei Carang <Senggarang. The highest metals accumulation in R. mucronata was found in the roots (Pb = 3,3482 ppm, Cr = 0,7664 ppm), while the leaves (Pb = 1,1076 ppm, Cr = 0,0413 ppm) had the lowest concentration. Based on the type of accumulation, R. mucronata absorbs Pb metal with a rhizofiltration mechanism (TF <1), which means that the roots of R. mucronata effectively translocate Pb as a pollutant to its body from the soil. In addition, the bio-concentration factor (BCF) concentration of R. mucronata <1 indicates the role of R. mucronata as a plant that accumulates very little Pb (low accumulator/non-hyperaccumulator). This adaptation mechanism is important information in the rehabilitation of mangrove areas using R. mucronata, because it can still live and grow in an environment contaminated with Pb metal by absorbing a little Pb from the soil and translocating it effectively in its organs.

In order to screen out the plants used to repair heavy metal pollution in the soil, five plants and surface soil were collected in the Huize lead-zinc mine area, centered on the hyperaccumulator plant Arabis alpina L. var. parviflora Franch, measured the heavy metal content of in shoot and root of plant and surface soil, and analyzed the characteristics of heavy metal accumulation in plants. The results showed that the soil Cd pollution in the Huize lead-zinc mining area was the most serious; among the five plants, the Cd bioconcentration factor(BCF) and translocation factor(TF) of A. alpina were more than 1, and the TF of Pb was more than 1; the TF of Anaphalis margaritacea, Cyananthus inflatus and Arenaria orbiculata to Cu and Zn were more than 1, the TF of Juncus effusus to Cd and Zn were more than 1. These five plants had good tolerance to heavy metals and were of great significance to the remediation and restoration of heavy metal contaminated soil in lead-zinc mining areas.

There are several former bauxite mining areas on Bintan Island which until now have been left open and not managed properly. In Tanjungpinang, the location of the former bauxite mine is located around the mangrove forest ecosystem. The impact of bauxite mining that changes the structure, texture, and physical of the soil can interfere with the development of the root system and the growth of surrounding plants, including mangroves. Therefore, it is necessary to know the health condition of mangroves around the former bauxite mining area. The method used is a cluster plot by calculating the percentage of tree damage based on organ location, type, and level of damage. The results of the analysis show that the health condition of the mangrove forest in Tanjungpinang City is healthy (50,9%); slightly damaged (40,4%) and moderately damaged (8,8%). The locations of the organs that suffered the most damage were roots, lower and upper stems, and leaves. The most common type of damage found roots submerged in red mud; stems and leaves covered with dust and red sand; termite; broken stem; roots break and die; broken shoots; and the leaves change color. The greatest severity is found between 10% and 20%.

Research on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) has often focused on their physical, chemical, and crystalline characteristics. Commercial AuNPs have been applied in the diverse fields of biomedicine, catalysis, photovoltaics, and sensing. In this study, we explored the various activities of AuNPs to widen their applicability. This paper presents a simple and rapid synthesis process of AuNPs with bacteria isolated from a gold mining area. We also investigated the optimization of reaction parameters for AuNP synthesis. The study results revealed that among the isolated strains, Bifidobacterium lactis and Escherichia coli demonstrated the highest capabilities of AuNP synthesis. The optimal pH values for AuNP synthesis by B. lactis (BLAuNPs) and E. coli (ECAuNPs) were 5.0 for 72 h of incubation and 8.0 for 24 h of incubation. The average particle sizes of ECAuNPs and BLAuNPs were 4.2 and 5.6 nm, respectively. Furthermore, these biogenic AuNPs were found to be stable with no aggregation after 3 months of storage. BLAuNPs and ECAuNPs exhibited high levels of antimicrobial, antioxidant, photocatalytic, and antityrosinase activity. Moreover, they were noncytotoxic to skin cells even at 100% melanin inhibitory concentrations. Considering the demonstrated multifunctional activities of AuNPs, BLAuNPs and ECAuNPs have promising potential for commercialization.

Abstract. Mangrove forests are highly productive tropical and subtropical coastal systems that provide a variety of ecosystem services, including the sequestration of carbon. While mangroves are reported to be the most intense carbon sinks among all forests, they can also support large emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs), such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), to the atmosphere. However, data derived from arid mangrove systems like the Red Sea are lacking. Here, we report net emission rates of CO2 and CH4 from mangroves along the eastern coast of the Red Sea and assess the relative role of these two gases in supporting total GHG emissions to the atmosphere. Diel CO2 and CH4 emission rates ranged from −3452 to 7500 µmol CO2 m−2 d−1 and from 0.9 to 13.3 µmol CH4 m−2 d−1 respectively. The rates reported here fall within previously reported ranges for both CO2 and CH4, but maximum CO2 and CH4 flux rates in the Red Sea are 10- to 100-fold below those previously reported for mangroves elsewhere. Based on the isotopic composition of the CO2 and CH4 produced, we identified potential origins of the organic matter that support GHG emissions. In all but one mangrove stand, GHG emissions appear to be supported by organic matter from mixed sources, potentially reducing CO2 fluxes and instead enhancing CH4 production, a finding that highlights the importance of determining the origin of organic matter in GHG emissions. Methane was the main source of CO2 equivalents despite the comparatively low emission rates in most of the sampled mangroves and therefore deserves careful monitoring in this region. By further resolving GHG fluxes in arid mangroves, we will better ascertain the role of these forests in global carbon budgets.

The community role is needed in the implementation of mangrove forest tourism management, especially in planning activities. The role of the community is the involvement of community itself in the development activities, both in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and the stages of esnjoying the results of the development itself. The purpose in this descriptive qualitative study was to determine the role of community in managing mangrove forest tourism in the subdistrict of Sukadana of Kayong Utara regency. Data collection techniques consist of observation, interviews, and documentation. While the analysis was carried out with descriptive analysis technique. The results of this study indicate that the role of of the sejahtera village community in managing mangrove forest tourism is limited to the maintenance of natural resources, maintenance of cleanliness and nursery of mangrove forests. Due to mangrove forest management is still fully managed by The Gunung Palung National Park Agency, the role of the community in the management of tourism in mangrove forests is still low. Therefore, the involvement of the surrounding community needs special attention and other related parties in utilizing mangrove forest tourism.Keyword: community role, mangrove forest, themanagement of mangrove tourism

The characteristics of strata, structures, magmatic rocks, lithology and mineralization in Dongtao mining area (Songwang area) of Bobai County, Guangxi were summarized. According to the geochemical anomalies of sediment in water system, and the main anomalies are explained and evaluated, combined with the geological characteristics of Dongtao and other mining areas, the prospecting prediction of favorable areas is carried out, and it is considered that there is a good prospect of prospecting.

The marine ecosystem on the coast of Nusa Lembongan is one of the tourist attractions such as coral reefs, mangrove forests and others. The high number of tourist visiting the island also impacts tourism facilities. Increased tourism also has the opportunity to damage the marine ecosystem. Therefore needs a collaboration among stakeholders in maintaining the sustainability of the marine ecosystem                . The purpose of this research is to find out and analyze also to find a collaborative model of stakeholders such as government, private sector, community and traditional institutions in preserving the marine ecosystem in Nusa Lembongan. The research is using a qualitative descriptive approach with determining informants technic is purposive sampling. Local government collaboration model in conserving marine ecosystems by strengthening the role of stakeholders at the local level such as: 1) signing memorandum of understanding for creating regional regulations as a policy of the Klungkung Regency; 2) writing in to a local wisdom (awig-awig) as a local policy of the local wisdom institutions (adat); 3) writing into the policy of the tour operator; 4) implement the Tri Hita Karana concept and creating a memorandum of understanding for all parties.
