The Chemokine (C-C) receptor 5 (CCR5) as one of the small signaling proteins, is a HIV-1 resistant gene. The major boosting to the study of CCR5 gene among ethnic groups in the world is the detection of 32 bp deletion in its heterozygous and homozygous condition which is responsible for relative or absolute resistance to HIV-1 infection. A total of 456 samples belonging to six Nepalese ethnic groups were subjected to genotyping by the use of PCR-RFLP for detecting 32 bp deletion on exon 3 of CCR5 gene. Finally, allele frequencies of 32 bp deletion among Nepalese ethnic groups were calculated by the use of Hardy-Weinberg formula for analysis and interpretation. Chidimar ethnic group, for the first time, showed heterozygous 32 bp deletion at the population level in Asia-pacific region is an excitement in which Chidimar might have conferred resistance against HIV-1 infection in Nepal.Journal of Institute of Science and Technology, 2014, 19(2): 105-108

The Anti-Secession Law enacted on 14 March 2005 by the highest legislature of the People's Republic of China (PRC), the National People's Congress, establishes for the first time a legal basis for the possible use of military use of force by the PRC against Taiwan. It may also be read as an attempt by the PRC to pursue a steady relationship with Taiwan by putting it on a quasi-legal footing. This comment analyses the Law from different aspects for its purpose, meaning and fallout for the PRC, Taiwan, the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world. The comment argues that the Law actually makes East Asia a more peaceful and secure environment than before its enactment.

<p>Western power has been sustained in the Asia-Pacific region by United States military might ever since the defeat of Japan. For the first time since then, China, a non-Western power, poses a challenge to that dominance, with the result that “neither Australia nor New Zealand has ever seriously considered how we would defend our interests and secure our countries in a region which was not dominated by our great and powerful Anglo-Saxon friends.”1 China is the new variable in the Asia-Pacific equation, and New Zealand is now required to factor this new element into its strategic calculations for the future. China’s ascendancy in the Asia-Pacific region will have a huge impact on New Zealand’s future strategic outlook. The purpose of this essay will be to design, as simply as possible, a way to structure thoughts and discussion about the defence relationship between New Zealand and China, from a New Zealand perspective. It will aim to establish a basic framework centred around a number of themes in order to provide a platform for analysis in the future. It will be a brief examination of how these two nations talk with each other at the defence level in the early twenty-first century.</p>

This paper critically evaluates the contention that the implementation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership would adversely affect the centrality of the World Trade Organization. Not only are many Asian nations members of the WTO, but some undertook major reforms to join. Singapore is currently one of the world's leading arbitration destinations. In addition to having recently hosted the 21st Congress of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), the reputation of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and Maxwell Chambers as being among the leading arbitration-related institutions in the world is testament to the growing significance of international arbitration in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as to the leading role that Singapore has played in contributing to the collective jurisprudence, expertise, activity, and interest in international arbitration. This chapter considers the provisions of the statutory regime and jurisprudence that contributed to establishing Singapore as a pro-arbitration jurisdiction. Virtual Exchange (VE) is of great import to language and culture teachers and researchers but is also gaining popularity in other fields. However, around the world and in the Asia-Pacific region in particular, the number of exchanges is not high and the quality of those that exist needs to continue to improve.
