Background and objectives: Food is an important basic necessity, its procurement, preparation and consumption is vital for the sustenance of life. However, diseases that spread through food are common and persistent problems result in appreciable morbidity and occasionally in death. Eating establishments provide food on a large scale and are important from the point of view of epidemiology of food borne diseases in the community. This study is carried out to assess the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) regarding food hygiene among food handlers working in food establishment in Nehru Nagar, Belgaum City.Material and Methods: A descriptive cross sectional study was conducted in food establishment in Nehru Nagar, Belgaum City. Sample is a subset of a population selected to participate in a study. Total number of food establishment’s functioning in Nehru Nagar is 103. . From each food establishment’s one cook, one helper and one service staff was selected randomly. Hence the total number of samples in the study is 103x 3= 309. Pre-tested structured questionnaire was used to gather information regarding practices of food hygiene. Data were coded and entered into SPSS sheet and analyzed by using SPSS software (SPSS 20.0 Version). Proportions were calculated wherever required from frequency tables. Chi square test was used.Results: The maximum number of subjects 251(81.2%) had average knowledge, 237 (76.7%) had average attitude and 262 (84.8%) had average practice. There is a statistically significant association found between demographic variables such as, nationality, religion, education, marital status, duration of employment, with knowledge of food handlers at the p < 0.05 level of significance.Conclusion: The food hygiene is an important aspect in food establishments made it compulsory for food handlers to provide clean food and free from contamination.Janaki Medical College Journal of Medical Sciences (2015) Vol. 3 (1):14-19

Background: Peripheral intravenous cannulation (PIVC) is a first-choice vascular device, commonly performed clinical skill by junior medical doctors and interns in hospital. Improper technique of PIVC can lead to pain, stress, increased chance of infection. Thus, practising the appropriate PIVC technique is vital for interns. This study is conducted to analyse the understanding and necessity for training required to perform accurate PIVC. The objective of this descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to determine and identify the level of knowledge, attitude and practice regarding PIVC among the interns of Mc Gann teaching district hospital, Shivamogga.Methods: A validated structured questionnaire containing 20 questions regarding PIVC in knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) format was distributed in hand among 109 interns affiliated to this institution. Descriptive statistics were used to illustrate the results in the form of number and percentage. Chi- square and one-way ANOVA was used to analyse the result. SPSS 21.0 was used.Results: 74% of the participating interns had proper knowledge about the vein commonly used for PIVC. Only 39% of the interns answered that PIVC was an aseptic technique. 108 participants had knowledge about the common complication due to PIVC which is thrombophlebitis. 2/3rd of the interns was supervised on their first PIVC procedure by a nurse. 94.4% of the interns were instructed regarding the hand washing technique during PIVC.Conclusions: Need for learning module and training programs to ensure the interns have knowledge PIVC technique, complications and management.

Background: Rabies is a viral zoonosis and human infection usually occurs following transdermal bite or scratch by an infected animal. It is one of the most dangerous and completely preventable diseases. Construction workers are vulnerable to animal bites. So, this study was undertaken to study the knowledge, attitude and practice regarding animal bite and rabies among construction workers.Methods: A cross sectional study was done in campus of MKCG medical college, Berhampur, Odisha, India. Data was collected by using pre-designed interview from 400 construction workers. Data was entered and analyzed using SPSS V.17. Descriptive statistics and chi square test were applied. KAP score were calculated. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: Mean age group of study participants was 37.75±15.8, 72.5% were male and 27.5% were female. 84% of the participants had heard the word rabies. 65.75% among them had poor KAP score. KAP score was significantly associated with age, sex, education and residence.Conclusions: Construction workers had poor knowledge about animal bite and rabies. Their knowledge, attitude and practice with respect to prevention and treatment of rabies can be improved by providing proper health education.

Biomedical scientists (BMSs) are important professionals for healthcare services as they help in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of numerous diseases. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to assess ergonomics knowledge, attitude, and practice among BMSs. A cross-sectional study was carried out among BMSs using a self-constructed questionnaire. The association between these parameters and various risk factors was measured using the Chi-square test. The study included 110 BMSs. Females represented 68.2% and 45.5% were in the age of 25-34. Good ergonomics knowledge showed in 54.5% and 82.7% showed high positive attitude. However, poor ergonomics showed in 83.5%. There was no significant interrelation between the three parameters. A significant association was found between the male gender (0.040), more than 20 working experience (0.016), and good ergonomics practice. Biomedical scientists have good knowledge, high attitude but the poor practice of ergonomics. Ergonomics training and practice should be firmly enhanced among these healthcare professionals.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the factors related to inadequate practice of the Papanicolaou test among women in northeastern Brazil. Method: cross-sectional study using a KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE inquiry, performed from June to October, 2013, with 240 women aged between 24 and 59 years. Results: inadequacies were observed, particularly in knowledge, because, despite having information about the examination, it was only used to detect sexually transmitted infections. Regarding the issue of practice, it was noted that single women and those up to 29 years of age were more likely to present inadequate practice than the older and married women, increasing the likelihood of developing cervical cancer. The greater difficulty for performing the examination was the lack of materials (68.1%). Conclusion: clarification for women regarding the examination requires effective communication between the users and health professionals, as well as guarantees and support for the continuity of care by managers.
