The paper was based on survey research design. There is significant association between experience group with herding bias and optimism bias and there is no significant association between experience group with investment decision bias, disposition effect bias, and overconfidence bias. Similarly there is significant association between trading frequency with herding bias, optimism bias, investment decision bias, disposition effect bias, and overconfidence bias. Heuristics may make investors overconfident as they overlook risks causing security price to move away from fundamentals. Investors tend to be overconfident and hence overestimate the accuracy of their forecast due to illusion of knowledge and illusion of control.

The research aims to examine the influence of irrational behaviour on stock investment decision, specifically, anchoring, disposition effect, home bias, herding, overconfidence and the risk perception. The research further investigates the moderating role of gender between irrational behaviour and stock investment decision. Finally, it reveals which irrational behaviour is most prevalent. A survey collected the primary data from 425 individual investors. The survey evidence shows that, of six irrational behaviours, anchoring, disposition effect, overconfidence and risk perception were influence the investment decision of individual investors, and risk perception comes out to be the significant irrational behaviour on stock investment decision. It further explores that gender has a significant moderation for anchoring, disposition effect, herding, overconfidence, risk perception, and stock investment decision. We recommend that if individuals are aware of the behavioural biases, it will help them for making the right stock investment decisions. The study also relevant for financial advisors, stockbrokers and policymakers as it facilitates them in gaining a better understanding of their clients’ irrational behaviour. The present study gives a unique insight into the individual investors’ profile of gender corresponding to each main irrational behaviour on investment decision under consideration of stock investment.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate how does the behavioral biases differ among the individual and institutional investors based on Colombo Stock Exchange. The study considers the effect of four behavioral biases; overconfidence bias, representativeness bias, disposition effect and herd mentality bias on the financial investment decision making of individual investors and institutional investors. Design / methodology / approach: A questionnaire was utilized to collect the data and the final sample consisted with 104 individual and 71 institutional respondents. The data of 175 investors was analyzed by using Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling approach. Findings: The study revealed that disposition effect make an impact on the investment decisions of both individual investors and institutional investors whereas overconfidence bias has impact only on the individual investors’ investment decisions. Originality: This study is one of the pioneering studies examining the behavioral biases differences of individual and institutional investors’ decision making. Thus, this study expands the existing literature in the field of behavioral finance particularly in emerging market context. In this sense, the findings of this study could draw important inferences for researchers, investors and policy makers to ensure that they make rational investments decisions.

The study aims to determine individual investors’ behavioral biases at individual level in the Vietnamese stock market and investigate the relationships between mutual behavioral biases, between demographic variables and behavioral biases, between stock investment variables and behavioral biases. This is a quantitative research in behavioral finance with the survey conducted in forms of questionnaire. Each question is a problem which requires investors to make decision. The research finds out that there are specific behavioral biases which influence investors’ investment decisions. Furthermore, there are relationships between gender and illusion of control bias, gender and optimism bias, gender and self-control bias. We also realize relationships between average value per trading times and investment experience, average value per trading times and loss aversion bias, trading frequency and optimism bias, investment experience and optimism bias, monthly income and optimism, age and cognitive dissonance bias. Our findings confirm relationships between mutual behavioral biases mentioned in behavioral finance such as relationships between framing bias and mental accounting bias, illusion of control bias and overconfidence bias. Additionally, we find out relationships between ambiguity aversion bias and confirmation bias.

The essential idea of this assessment is investigate the social factors affecting particular theorists' decisions making limit at Indian Stock Markets. The money related experts were widely masterminded placing assets into different portfolios like 32% in Share market and 20 % in Fixed store. These examiners mode to known various endeavor streets were through News, family and allies.

This paper aims to assess the impact of heuristics on the investment decision by analysing the effect of four heuristic biases, i.e., representativeness, availability, anchoring and adjustment, and overconfidence bias on rationality of Nepalese investor's investment decision-making and also examines the moderating effect of the internal locus of control in between. The study used 391 respondents based on a convenient sampling procedure, and structured questionnaire survey. The study result indicates that there is a significant relationship between irrationality in investment decision-making and all four heuristic biases. In addition, the study also concludes that locus of control has significant moderating effect in the relationship between investment decisions and three heuristic biases, i.e., availability, representative and anchoring bias. However, the study documents no moderation effect in case of relationship with overconfidence bias.

Purpose The authors are interested in building descriptive – real life – models of successful investors’ investment reasoning and decision-making. Models designed to be useful for trying to replicate and evolve their reasoning and decision-making. The purpose of this paper, a case study, is to take the substantial material – on innovating the investing tools – published in four books (2006/2012, 2010, 2011, 2015) by a US stock investor named Kenneth Fisher (CEO of Fisher Investments, Woodside, California) and sketch Fisher’s investment innovating reasoning model. Design/methodology/approach To sketch Fisher’s investment innovating reasoning model, the authors used the Radical constructivist theory of knowledge, a framework for analyzing human action and reasoning called Symbolic interactionism and a qualitative analytic technique called Conceptual analysis. The authors have done qualitative research applied to the study of investment decision-making of a single professional investor. Findings In the paper, the authors analyzed and described the heuristics used by Fisher to build subsequent generations of investing tools (called by Fisher “Capital Markets Technology”) to try to make better forecasts to beat the stock market. The authors were interested in studying the evolutive dimensions of the tools to make forecasts of a successful investor: the “how to build it” and “how to evolve it” dimension. Originality/value The paper offers an account of Kenneth Fisher’s framework to reason the innovation of investing tools. The authors believe that this paper could be of interest to professional money managers and to all those who are involved in the study and development of the tools of investing. This work is also an example of the use of the Radical constructivist theory of knowledge, the Symbolic interactionist framework and the Conceptual analysis to build descriptive models of investment reasoning of individual investors, models designed to enable the reproduction/approximation of the conceptual operations of the investor.

The behavioral finance literature has documented that individual investors tend to sell winning stocks more quickly than losing stocks, a phenomenon known as the disposition effect, and that such a behavior has an impact on stock prices. We examined this effect in the Tunisian stock market using the unrealized capital gains/losses of Grinblatt & Han (2005) to measure the disposition effect. We find that the Tunisian investors exhibit a disposition effect in the long-run horizon but not in the short and the intermediate horizons. Moreover, the disposition effect predicts a stock price continuation (momentum) for the whole sample. However this impact varies from an industry to another. It predicts a momentum for “manufacturing” but a return reversal for “financial” and “services”.

Purpose The paper takes a behavioral approach by making use of the prospect theory to unveil the impact of salience on short-term and long-term investment decisions. This paper aims to investigate the group differences for two types of investors’ groups, i.e. individual investors and professional investors. Design/methodology/approach The study uses partial least square-based structural equation modeling technique, measurement invariance test and multigroup analysis test on a unique data set of 277 active equity traders which included professional money managers and individual investors. Findings Results showed that salience has a significant positive impact on both short-term and long-term investment decisions. The impact was almost 1.5 times higher for long-term investment decision as compared to short-term decision. Furthermore, multigroup analysis revealed that the two groups (individual investors and professional investors) were statistically significantly different from each other. Research limitations/implications The study has implications for financial regulators, money managers and individual investors as it was found that individual investors suffer more with salience heuristic and may end up with sub-optimal portfolios due to inefficient diversification. Thus, investors should be cautious in fully relying on salience and avoid such bias to improve investment returns. Practical implications The study concludes with a discussion of policy and regulatory implications on how to minimize salience bias to achieve optimum and diversified portfolios. Originality/value The study has significantly contributed to the growing body of applied behavioral research in the discipline of finance.

The objective of this study is to examine the Impact of Overconfidence bias and Herding bias on Investment Decision Making with Moderating Role of Financial Literacy. The population was Investor, Employee and Graduate Student. A sample of 200 was selected using convenience technique. Data were collected through structure questionnaire adopted from different papers. Correlation and Regression analysis were performed to examine the result. The Results show that overconfidence bias and herding bias have a positive impact on investment decision making and Financial Literacy has positive impact on investment decision making. Based on the results and discussions of the study findings as well as the limitations, theoretical and practical implications of the study have been provided.
