Voice is a unique means of communication and socialization of a person, the formation of a vast human multicultural space. It is used in a wide variety of professions and is a function with an interdisciplinary affiliation, therefore hygiene, health preservation, and voice restoration have a systemic convergent (interdisciplinary) nature. This problem is dealt with by specialists of pedagogical and medical profiles (speech therapists, phonopedists, phoniatrists, otolaryngologists). Higher school teachers have excessive voice and psychoemotional stress, recently complicated by distance learning. In the course of their work, they must meet the requirements for their voice quality in the process of performing teaching. The object of the research is the state of vocal abilities among teachers of higher education. Subject – generalization of methods of voice restoration among teachers of higher education, actualization of the importance of preventive and hygienic work to prevent professional voice disorders. The working hypothesis of the study consists of the assumption that timely diagnosis and systematic use of selected speech therapy and phonopedic measures will optimize the process of restoring laryngeal functions among university teachers. This paper describes an empirical study of the characteristics of the voice in high school teachers (Pacific State University), identifies the main factors affecting voice health and the causes of their occurrence. Based on the analysis of the survey data obtained from the survey and previously conducted theoretical and practical research, materials (brochures) and videos (master classes) on hygiene and prevention of voice disorders were prepared for university teachers. The scientific contribution of the research consists in obtaining empirical results in the designated problem field, combining speech therapy and phonopedic scientific and methodological materials for practical use by persons with voice-speech professions. The direction of future research will be to expand the group of respondents (teachers, educators, students) for diagnostic measurements and subsequent comparative analysis of the data obtained.

The use of English for instruction at the tertiary level of education by nations whose native language is not English has been the subject of considerable debate. This study aims to survey the attitudes of a group of Iranian university teachers at a state university in central Iran towards the possible use of English as a medium of instruction (EMI) in Iranian higher education, where Persian is currently the medium of instruction except in English language departments. It also explores whether teachers’ attitude towards EMI is affected by their university rank. To this end, 60 teachers were randomly selected from faculties of Humanities, Science, and Engineering, and their perceptions about EMI were explored through questionnaires and interviews. The findings indicated that, in spite of the current emphasis on Persian by authorities, teachers valued English over Persian as the medium of instruction, expressing concerns mainly about inadequacies in resources and English proficiency requirements. Interview results showed that their opinions were divided as they enumerated a variety of economic, academic, cultural, social, and technological reasons both for and against the possible use of EMI at Iranian tertiary levels. The results imply that concerns over the launch of new curricula using EMI are multidimensional. Possible suggestions for future research on EMI are discussed.

This chapter examines two U.S. four-year public universities, the Pennsylvania State University World Campus and the University of Oklahoma Outreach, that have successfully developed online adult education system/programs for adults. Using the principles of effectiveness for serving adult learners, the integrated review reveals not only how they advance online higher education environment for adults, but the types of challenges they have. Key findings highlight that, under a strong tradition of distance education, “self-assessment system,” “financial independence,” and “diverse active supports for life and career planning” play a critical role in increasing the academic engagement and retention of adult students. However, they also have several challenges: “high tuition rates and limited scholarship options,” “monitoring students' experience,” “learning outcome assessment,” and “commitment of faculty members.” The authors close with practical/academic implications and future research agendas.

The performance of institutions issquarely anchored with different factors that affect the institutional credibility and successeither positively ornegatively. The best performance on the part of institutions isthe most dynamic issuefor the institutions in attaining the desired objectives, ranking, and success.Still, there exists a dynamism that facilitatesas well asinterrupt the performance of the institutions in which academic, economic, and political aspectsare the foremost. These factors are responsible either for the success orfailure of higher education institutions in developing countries like Pakistan. In this connection, the present study confirmsand validate the existence of the relationship between certaindynamic factorsand institutional performance by collecting primary data overquestionnaire from respondents hailing from higher education institutions of KP, Pakistan. A total of325 respondents wereselected from the entire populationover simple random sampling techniques wherein each member of subset has an equal probability of being selection. Data wereanalyzed throughstatistical procedures (i.e., correlation and regression) to examine the hypotheses as developed from the theoretical framework. The results are valuable by providing significant information about the relationship (association, causeand effect) among the research variables and recommendations for future research.

The article examines actual problems of the strategy of the educational process in the aspect of humanization of education, which should be based on genuine self-regulation and active self-determination of the student's personality. Inthecontextof the humanistic paradigm of the educational system, an individual approach to students, encouraging the disclosure of personal potential and creative development, the possibility of emotional contact with students are investigated. The purpose of the article is to study the relationship between the innovative readiness of higher education teachers and emotional intelligence. The methodological basis of the research are the works of such researchers in the field of a personality-centered approach to education as K. Rogers, I.V. Abakumova, I.S. Yakimanskaya, V.V. Serikov, E.V. Bondarevskaya, M.A., Andreev V.I. and others, as well as conceptual provisions in the field of emotional intelligence of scientists (J. Meyer, P. Salovey and D. Caruso R. Bar-On and D. Goleman N. Hall). We have chosen as research methods: diagnostics of "emotional intelligence" (N.Hall); questionnaire to identify the level of innovative readiness for personality-centered interaction of university teachers (author's methodology). As a result of the conducted empirical research, the hypothesis put forward by us about the presence of a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and the innovative indicator of the ability for person-centered interaction of higher school teachers was confirmed.

Research performance of lecturers in higher education institutions has become an important topic but many variables are still largely unexplored in current literature. The main objective of this study is to examine the impact of four leadership behaviors of department heads and coworkers on the lecturers’ research performance and the moderating effects of achievement value. A survey was conducted with a sample of 408 Vietnamese lecturers at economics and business management focused universities. Our findings contribute to the literature of job performance in higher education from an organizational behavior perspective by explaining the mid-level impacts of departmental factors affecting research performance. We also discuss potential implications and make recommendations for future research.

Purpose Mergers in higher education seem to be more common as academic institutions work to control costs and avoid program duplications in challenging economic times and adopt the more common cost saving measures often espoused from business mergers. The purpose of this paper is to highlight successes from a complementarity-based merger of two institutions in the University System of Georgia (USG) and present results over time. Design/methodology/approach A case study methodology was employed to explain why a particular merger resulted in greater growth compared to other system-wide academic mergers. This research focuses on a single merger of two institutions in Georgia, one of seven such mergers in the USG institutions to date, involving Gainesville State College and North Georgia College and State University to become the University of North Georgia. Observations are made and complimented by secondary data to rank growth among the seven USG consolidations. Findings The case findings highlight the success from the complementarity of these institutions. While the two were unique institutions, the success of the merger was linked to the underlying complementarity issues. Originality/value Using the strategic issues inherent in mergers from the business literature, the merger of the two institutions is profiled and discussion and recommendations are provided along with areas for future research.

Technologies of the 21st century have brought about a new crisis of significance, which is determined by materialism, expedient attitude, narrowness generated by the self-centeredness, lack of sense, and poverty of commitments. This state of affairs is also characteristic for the contemporary Higher Education, which is going through a decisive stage when it must rethink the communication schemes methodologies as well as the spiritual interaction of intelligence. Didactic processes are re-directed towards more interactive communication, learning spaces, and metacognitive strategies. University teachers, as the servant leaders of the successful education, have a special responsibility to develop competence for learning to learn and for social integration through a profession. Thus, the academics have a specific mission to demonstrate not only the deep knowledge, but also the spiritual intelligence. This chapter provides a novel model of spiritual intelligence raining of the Academic Staff. Conclusions and future research directions are provided.
