This article proves the equivalence theorem for the following conditions: the periodicity of continued fractions of a generalized type for key elements hyperelliptic field L, the existence in the hyperelliptic field L of nontrivial S-units for sets S, consisting two valuations of degree one, and the existence of the torsion of a certain type in the Jacobian variety, associated with the hyperelliptic field L. This theorem allows in practice using continued fractions of a generalized type effectively search for fundamental S-units of hyperelliptic fields. We give an example of the hyperelliptic field of genus 3, showing all three equivalent conditions in the indicated theorem.

AbstractGiven a pair of real functions (k, f), we study the conditions they must satisfy for $$k+\lambda f$$ k + λ f to be the curvature in the arc-length of a closed planar curve for all real $$\lambda $$ λ . Several equivalent conditions are pointed out, certain periodic behaviours are shown as essential and a family of such pairs is explicitely constructed. The discrete counterpart of the problem is also studied.

Abstract In any U-abundant semigroup with an Ehresmann transversal, two significant components R and L are introduced in this paper and described by Green’s ∼ \sim -relations. Some interesting properties associated with R and L are explored and some equivalent conditions for the Ehresmann transversal to be a quasi-ideal are acquired. Finally, a spined product structure theorem is established for a U-abundant semigroup with a quasi-ideal Ehresmann transversal by means of R and L.

We investigate the efficiency of several types of continued fraction expansions of a number in the unit interval using a generalization of Lochs theorem from 1964. Thus, we aim to compare the efficiency by describing the rate at which the digits of one number-theoretic expansion determine those of another. We study Chan’s continued fractions, θ-expansions, N-continued fractions, and Rényi-type continued fractions. A central role in fulfilling our goal is played by the entropy of the absolutely continuous invariant probability measures of the associated dynamical systems.

Abstract In this paper, we study the equivalent conditions for the boundedness of the commutators generated by the multilinear maximal function and the bounded mean oscillation (BMO) function on Morrey space. Moreover, the endpoint estimate for such operators on generalized Morrey spaces is also given.

The Hurwitz complex continued fraction is a generalization of the nearest integer continued fraction. In this paper, we prove various results concerning extremes of the modulus of Hurwitz complex continued fraction digits. This includes a Poisson law and an extreme value law. The results are based on cusp estimates of the invariant measure about which information is still limited. In the process, we obtained several results concerning the extremes of nearest integer continued fractions as well.
