ICT has become powerful media for teaching English, especially in improving students’ learning autonomy. However, studies have revealed that English teachers are sometimes resistant to ICT integration in the class, in which the resistance fails the effective ICT integration. The purpose of this study is to explain English teachers’ resistance towards ICT integration in the class by presenting and the categories of the resistance. There were seven teachers from six different senior high schools investigated in this study. Using semi-guided interview, observation and documentation, the study yielded the findings. There were three categories of resistance found; extreme, moderate and zero resistance. The factors contributing to the resistance were coming from external and internal, such as the unwillingness to learn and use ICT, lack of ICT competence and pedagogical knowledge, concerns about ICT for students, and unsupportive school facilities. It was also found that age might not matter much in contributing to the resistance and that the teachers’ perception is not always reflected in their teaching practice.Keywords: ICT integration, teacher’s resistance, factors of resistance, category of resistance.

The objectives of this research aimed at (i) finding out the causes of the problems in teaching English at vocational high schools and (ii) finding out the possible solution toward the problems of the teachers in teaching English subject at vocational high schools. The researcher applied purposive sampling technique in selecting the participants. The participants consisted of two advanced teachers and two beginner teachers at vocational high schools in Somba Opu sub-district. The additional participants were two headmasters that focused on the possible solution dealing with the problem found by the English teachers at VHS. This research under applied descriptive approach and qualitative method. The data were collected by using two instruments namely semi-structured interview and observation checklist. The data were analyzed by using the framework of Miles and Huberman’s (2012) namely data reduction, data display, and drawing then verifying conclusion. The results of this research mentioned nine causes of the problems on the professional competence of English teachers in teaching at vocational high school and the possible solution toward the causes. The outline of the causes of the problems on professional competence are the less effort of the English teachers to improve the linguistic aspects, lack of English for Spesific Purpose knowledge, less of communicative competence, less preparation of teaching contents, less in using ICT as a teaching method and lack in managing the time and managing the class. The possible solution can draw in this research that the English teachers at VHS have to consider the students’ need, prepare the teaching planning and involved in the teaching training. Thus, this research might become a recommendation to the government and the Educational trainer for facilitating the English teachers at VHS with education training of ESP knowledge and supporting the teachers in developing their professional competence.

As an English teacher, communicating through English language properly and thoroughly is highly required particularly at Senior High School level. They are expected to communicate politely since teachers are the role model of teaching. As a professional teacher, English teachers must have professional competencies such as speech acts proficiencies. Speech act is included into spoken English and is taught in Senior High School level in order to develop students’ communicative competence. This is a descriptive qualitative research and is aiming at describing pedagogical knowledge of English teachers on speech acts in Senior High School level of West Nusa Tenggara. The knowledge itself is divided into some branches, they are the ability to define speech acts, ability to identify speech acts conversation and ability to identify speech act utterances. The researcher conducted the interview to collect the data. The data are obtained from the interview and the tape recorder to record the interview process. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that Senior High School teachers mostly can answer questions about speech acts. They can define speech acts, they can identify the speech act conversations and they can identify the speech act utterances. In conclusion, the knowledge of speech acts of Senior High School teachers is categorized very good because they can answer most questions correctly. Therefore, Senior High School teachers fulfill professional language competencies; they comprehend teaching materials and have good pedagogical skills.

Scientific approach is one of approach applied in the Curriculum of 2013. The Scientific approach designed student as the subject of learning and teacher as a facilitator and motivator. In this design, teacher is not must explain all of the teaching material. There are 5 steps of the scientific approach which is abbreviated into 5M as follows: observing, asking, gathering information, reasoning, and communicating. The Objective of this study are (1) to measure the scientific approach application in the curriculum of 2013 in High Schools of Medan City, (2) to find out the obstacles commonly faced by Biology teachers in the application of scientific approach in the Curriculum of 2013 in State High Schools in Medan and (3 ) to find out the school facilities and infrastructure that supports the application of the scientific approach in the Curriculum of 2013  at State High Schools in Medan. This research was conducted in State High School in Medan City. The research held on July - September 2019. The research applied descriptive method to find out the application of scientific approach steps in State High School in Medan City. The instruments in this study were observation, questionnaire, and interview. The data were analyzed by the scientific approach data analysis and also by the analysis of observation data. This research is targeted to be publishes in any National non-Accredited Journal. The TKT proposed in this research is on a scale of 1 which shows the basic principles of learning technology with a recorded scientific approach

This paper presents an analysis of teaching strategies of the English teachers at the Vocational High School in Luwu. The qualitative method applied to analyze the strategies implemented by two English teachers of the Computer Network Department in a Vocational High School in Luwu. The data indicated that both teachers followed the 2013 curriculum by applying Scientific Learning Approach which consists of observing, questioning, experimenting, associating, and communicating as the core activity in the learning process. Moreover, both teachers commonly applied cooperative learning method, such as small group discussion and pair work. Unfortunately, the English instructions applied was the same as general English, whereas we knew that teaching English in vocational secondary education should be taken into account as English for Specific Purposes. Other than that, the teachers even use the same textbooks as general high school where the contents are frequently inadequate to the vocational students’ needs. Teacher argued that they have limited time and lack of understanding on how to design the specific teaching materials for students.

This study aims to investigate the challenges and teaching strategies of English teachers in District Merauke. This study is a mix-method namely the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. 16 English teachers as the participants in the study from six high schools in Merauke district namely Senior High School 1 Merauke, Senior High School 2 Merauke, Senior High School 3 Merauke, Vocational High School 3 Merauke, Senior High School YPK Merauke, and MA Al-Munawwaroh. Data collection instruments used were questionnaires and interviews. Questionnaires used consisted of 40 statements and the interview consisted of 14 questions related to challenges and strategy of teaching English in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. As a result, challenges in the teaching and learning process are, especially for online learning. Mostly the students are constrained in technology facilities and motivation of students. While for the strategy in teaching English in industrial revolution era 4.0, by motivating students about the importance of English, providing variations in learning such as the use of video, audio, practice variety questions, using the online application (WhatsApp, google classroom, google translate, zoom, google meet, etc). Besides, by using discussions, question and answer directly, blended learning method, discovery learning, using image media, audio Lingual Method, TPR, GT, using voice note. Thus, by merging cognitive, affective, and psychomotor processes. Besides, for strategies in creating interesting and creative learning in the era of industrial revolution 4.0, by using jokes, games, giving advice, giving praise, and collaborating with native speakers in online learning.

This research shows the implementation of contextual teaching and learning conducted by the English teachers of MAN 1 Enrekang in teaching English. MAN 1 Enrekang is senior high school that is located in Enrekang regency, Sulawesi Selatan, as one of the schools where most of the teachers there implement CTL method in teaching, include teaching English. However, sometimes the students still find it difficult to understand the material being taught, especially English. This research employed descriptive qualitative method, in which the data collected and analyzed qualitatively by giving description about the phenomena or facts have been found in the field. The subjects of the research were the English teachers of MAN 1 Enrekang. They are English teachers who have implemented CTL in teaching English. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the implementation of CTL method in teaching English to the students of MAN 1 Enrekang was not totally or fully conducted. There are seven elements should be applied in teaching and learning for implementing CTL. They are constructivism, inquiry, modeling, reflection, learning community, questioning, and authentic assessment. Eventhough the teachers understood and admitted implementing CTL in teaching English, the result of the observation shows that the English teachers applied only five elements of CTL in the classroom, while there were two elements of CTL those have not been applied because of the limited time in teaching and learning process, they are constructivism and inquiry. The element of CTL that was applied frequently is questioning

The purpose of the study was to find out the differences between the classroom management   performed by the senior and yunior teachers in teaching English at senior High School in Medan. This is a descriptive qualitative study. The respondents of the research were 28 English teachers of Yunior and Senior High School in Medan. Questionnaire and Observation sheet were used to collect the data on the teachers classroom management.   The result of the study shows that senior English   teachers perform more aspects of Classroom management. They  perform 18 point from 20 points aspect.. Junior English teacher get 17 point. Although senior teachers  perfom only show slightly more aspect of classromm management but for the quality of classroom management they perform better due to the longer experience of teaching. For junior English teacher they perform more enthusiastics energy, although it is clear that they have to study more on the behavior and attitude expected in the classrooms.

This research was intended to investigate the problems in professional competence faced by the English teachers of vocational high schools in Gowa, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. This research applied descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected by using three instruments: questionnaire, interview and observation checklist. The participants were two experienced English teachers, two inexperienced English teachers, and eight students. The professional competence indicators are adapted from the Regulation of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 16/2007. The results of this research reveal that the teachers' problems dealing with professional competence in teaching English at vocational high schools include (a) problem in mastering the materials, (b) problems in mastering the curriculum, (c) problem in developing materials creatively, (d) difficulties in developing the teacher professionalism continuously, (e) problems in using the information technology and (f) problems of classroom management. Keywords:  professional competence, experienced English teachers, inexperiencedEnglish teacher.
