One thousand four hundred and fifty-five lymphoscintigraphies using a radio-labelled colloid were performed as an objective test for the diagnosis and the survey of lower limb oedemas. It is a non-invasive method involving only a subdermic bipedal injection into the first web space of each foot. Our results demonstrate that in chronic swollen legs due to venous causes occuring from post-thrombotic syndrome or varicose disease the lymphatic system can be insufficient (14.9% and 19.8% of these cases). Abnormal results are found in 91.3% of clinically primary lymphoedemas. In unilateral primary lymphoedemas the clinically healthy controlateral limb can be insufficient (25%). In post-traumatic lower limb oedemas the lymphatic flow remains normal while perilymphatic extravasation and dermal filling are always to be found at the trauma site. The lymphoscintigraphy is a simple, physiological and reliable test. The morphological findings based upon 1455 examinations allow us to think that this method may resolve the clinical problems without recourse to more invasive procedures. We can expect that in a few years this morphological study will be completed with a functional lymphatic test.

In this paper we introduce a Jones-type invariant for singular knots, using a Markov trace on the Yokonuma–Hecke algebras Y d,n(u) and the theory of singular braids. The Yokonuma–Hecke algebras have a natural topological interpretation in the context of framed knots. Yet, we show that there is a homomorphism of the singular braid monoid SBn into the algebra Y d,n(u). Surprisingly, the trace does not normalize directly to yield a singular link invariant, so a condition must be imposed on the trace variables. Assuming this condition, the invariant satisfies a skein relation involving singular crossings, which arises from a quadratic relation in the algebra Y d,n(u).

Abstract: Complex syndactyly in Apert syndrome, especially complicated with synonychia and synostosis, is a surgical challenge. The incidence of Apert Syndrome is reported to be approximately 1 per 100.000 to 160.000 live births and its incidence in Indonesia is not yet known. It is practically symmetrical causing significant dysfunction and infection if not treated properly. The goals in the treatment are separation of independent digits without disturbing function and growth, creation of a lined commissure, provision of skin cover for the denuded nail edge and exposed bone, and to create aesthetically pleasing individual fingertips with proper nails, nail folds and adequate pulp fullness. Many variations of surgical release of the first web space and of the remaining syndactyly have been described. Various approaches to the bony deformity of the thumb have also been described. All previously described techniques advocate releasing a single side of a digit at any given surgery to maintain the vascularity of that digit. This is due to the unreliability of the vascular branching pattern to the digits. In this serial case, we reported 5 cases of Apert syndrome. We described the clinical findings, incision design, immediate and post-surgery follow ups. The results were uneventful, with satisfying function and aesthetic appearance.

The previous period of United States presidential elections of 1996 has redirected the relevant scientific research to investigate the correlation online communication - political sphere. Consequently were formulated various paradigms and the most discussed was the democratic paradigm, according to which the representation serve as a basic principle of modern democracy. The study of the level of influence of new communication technologies on political sphere became, for a number of scientific investigations carried out in USA, Canada and later in some European countries such as France, Italy, the UK (in 2000 and since 2007 in Romania), an important objective of empirical research. In most cases, the first stage of the investigation of online political communication has been marked by some methodological problems such as: the changeable nature of web space, the necessity to elaborate new indicators able to represent basic aspects of studied reality, the temporal validity of the data. The elaboration of A Model of Cyber –Interactivity by Sally J. McMillan has contributed to overcome these difficulties and has demonstrated the effectiveness of content analysis as research method used for the study of Web Space dynamic reality. Later, the research team from the University of Rochester (Paul Ferber, Frantz Foltz, Rudy Pugliese) have perfected the two-way interactivity model (elaborated by Sally J. McMillan) and have it completed with three-dimensional model of interactivity for the purpose of quantitative investigation of political websites and to argue that these forms of new media correspond to the ideals of cyberdemocracy.

Background: Complex soft tissue defects of thumb and first web space are a reconstructive challenge. Low voltage electric burns of the hand commonly result in localised and deep soft tissue destruction. The first dorsal metacarpal artery flap (FDMA) is an attractive local flap option to reconstruct these. This study illustrates our experience with the same.Methods: Between March 2014 and February 2017, 16 patients with complex soft tissue defects of thumb and first web space resulting from low voltage electric burns underwent reconstruction with the FDMA flap and subsequent structured hand therapy. In the follow up visits objective assessment of hand function included tests of mobility using Kapandji Score, sensory evaluation with static 2 point discrimination and cortical reorientation. The Subjective Satisfaction Score was used to ascertain the patient’s overall perception of aesthetic and functional outcome.Results: Majority (43.75%) of the patients had defects involving the thumb IP joint. No case of complete flap failure was noted. In a mean follow-up of 11.5 months the reconstructed thumb showed return of good protective sensation as well as mobility. Though cortical reorientation was complete in only 18.75 %, it did not substantially impede hand functioning. All patients were satisfied with the functional and aesthetic result.Conclusions: In cases of low voltage electric burn injuries the FDMA flap is a reliable reconstructive option for small to moderate sized complex defects of thumb and first web space. It has minimal donor site morbidity and can be accomplished in a relatively simple single stage procedure.

All polynomial invariants of links for two dimensional solutions of Yang–Baxter equation is constructed by employing Turaev's method. As a consequence, it is proved that the best invariant so constructed is the Jones polynomial and there exist three solutions connecting to the Alexander polynomial. Invariants for higher dimensional solutions, obtained by the so-called dressings, are also investigated. It is observed that the dressings do not improve link invariant unless some restrictions are put on dressed solutions.
