Investigation on the health condition of small indigenous fish, Channa punctatus was carried out through clinical and histological observation from Jailka beel of Sherpur sadar, Sherpur district and Kailla beel of Ishargonj upazila, Mymensingh district for a period of six months from October 2014 to March 2015. Water quality parameters like water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, total hardness, alkalinity and nitrate were recorded. Water temperature and total hardness were found at unfavorable level for fish in December and January. Clinical examinations of the fish were also carried out for any kind of abnormalities at monthly intervals. Clinically, it was observed that fish was affected with numerous red spots and patches in lateral and ventral regions, large deep whitish ulcers reached up to deep ulcers especially in December and January in both the beels. Samples of skin, muscle, gill, liver and kidney were collected and processed for histological observations. Major pathology in the skin and muscle were epidermis separated from dermis, presence of fungal granuloma, vacuums, hemorrhage and necrosis. Loss of primary and secondary gill lamellae, hypertrophy and primary gill lamellae separated, necrosis and hemorrhage were found in the gill. Large vacuums, necrosis and hemorrhage were observed in liver and kidney. Among the affected fish organs, skin and muscle, gills were found to be more affected than those of the internal organs like liver and kidney. Overall, under the clinical and histopathological observations the fish were found to be more affected in December and January. Whereas, in the months of February and March, the pathological condition of fish gradually healed up to normal except few vacuums and hemorrhage. Under histopathological observations, fish of Jailka beel were more affected than the fish of Kailla beel. Seasonal variation of water quality parameters and health condition of some small endangered open water fishes are Baila (Glossogobius giuris), Gutum (Lepidocephalichthys guntea) and Tara baim (Macrognathus aculeatus) was carried out through clinical and histological observation from Kailla beel of Ishargonj upazila, Mymensingh and Surma river, Gobindogonj upazila, Sunamgonj district, Sylhet region for a period of eight months from September 2014 to April 2015. Water quality parameters like water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia, alkalinity, hardness, and nitrate were recorded. Water temperature, pH, alkalinity and hardness were found at unfavorable level for fish in mid November and January. Clinical examinations of the fish were carried out at monthly intervals and any kind of abnormalities were recorded. The health conditions of freshwater mud eel, Monopterus cuchia of Ailee beel, Mymensingh district was investigated through clinical and histopathological observations from September 2005 to March 2006. Monthly sampling of water quality parameters like temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH and total hardness were carried out. Water temperature and total hardness were at reduced level for fish during the months of November to January in the beel. Clinically weak body, rough skin, deep ulcer and grey brownish colour of the body were noticed especially from November to January. Major pathology in the skin and muscle such as loss of epidermis and dermis, necrosis of myotoms, huge vacuum spaces, marked melanomacrophage and fungal granuloma were found in December and January. Marked melanomacrophages, severe haemorrhage, vaccums, hepatic necrosis, fat droplets were found in the liver. In kidney numerous haemorrhagic areas, necrosis, few fat droplets and many fungal granulomas were seen in December and January. Histopathologically, sampled fishes were found normal in September and October and reduced pathological signs were observed in February and March. Clinically and pathologically eels were found to be more affected in December and January. Reduced temperature and total hardness might have played role in the occurrence of clinical and pathological changes in fish during the period. The manuscript herewith presents the assessment of water quality parameters in the samples drawn in year 2014-15 from Akshar Vihar pond, located centrally in district Bareilly (U.P.), India. Analysis of check parameters chosen, was performed by employing standard procedures laid down in APHA. The minimum to maximum values recorded in each month of the experimental year for pH, total hardness, DO, BOD, COD, calcium and magnesium were 7.2-8.8, 380 - 486mg/L, 4.2-10.6 mg/L, 1.0-1.6 mg/L, 3.8-8.4 mg/L, 52.97-74.84 mg/L and 56.74-72.98 mg/L respectively. Significant correlation was observed for COD with pH (0.816), carbonate (0.875) and bicarbonate (0.927); that of total hardness with magnesium (0.954) as well as of DO inversely with water temperature (-0.821).

An investigation on the seasonal variation of gill, skin muscle, liver and kidney pathology of Mrigal (Cirrhinus cirrhosus) was carried out from four Government (Govt.) and four Private (Pvt.) fish farms, Mymensingh, Bangladesh during June, 2010 to May, 2012. Fish sampling and water quality parameters were monitored monthly basis. For histopathological studies skin, muscle, gill, liver and kidney were collected, processed and stained in Haematoxylin and Eosin.  Histologically, Mrigal of different fish farms were more affected in colder months. All the investigated organs of Mrigal were exhibited few abnormalities during summer, however, mild hyperplasia, haemorrhage, partial loss of secondary gill lamellae, marked and hypertrophy was observed during the rainy season. Several pathological changes like necrosis, fungal granuloma, protozoan and monogenean cyst, vacuolation, melanomacrophase, haemorrhage, hypertrophy, hyperplasia and clubbing were recorded in all the investigated organs. Among them fish gills and skin were more affected followed by liver and kidney. In some cases, large bacterial colony and protozoan cyst were observed in the secondary gill lamellae of Mrigal. The ectoparasites were very common in gills and skin of all fishes. Water quality parameters were taken and management practices were investigated fortnightly interval in different farms. These were almost similar for all experimental ponds. The risk of being infestation by parasites of carp significantly (p<0.001) increased when the water quality parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia, hardness, alkalinity, transparency and depth of water etc. were not maintained the optimum level.

An investigation was carried out on the limnological aspects of Ashura beel at Dinajpur district in Bangladesh. Several limnological parameters were evaluated from March 2013 to October 2013 from three sampling sites namely Kajladoho, Burirdoho and Sonnasydoho. Physical, chemical and biological parameters were analyzed fortnightly both at the field level and departmental laboratory of Fisheries Management, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur. Findings revealed that only water level in three sampling sites varied significantly. The ranges of water temperature, transparency, water level at three sampling sites were 24 to 35.50°C, 17 to 27.50 cm and 0.58 to 2.44 m, respectively. Moreover, the dissolved oxygen concentration, pH, total alkalinity, total hardness and phosphate-phosphorus concentration were also remained within optimum ranges. Thirty four genera were recorded where phytoplankton includes 29 genera belonging to four groups such as euglenophyceae, cyanophyceae, bacillariophyceae and chlorophyceae and five genera of zooplankton in the four groups namely copepoda, rotifera, cladocera and crustacean larvae. Phytoplankton was dominated by chlorophyceae and zooplankton dominated by copepoda. The abundance of phytoplankton was positively correlated with water temperature, water level, dissolved oxygen, alkalinity, hardness, pH, and phosphate-phosphorus. On the other hand, abundance of zooplankton negatively correlated with water temperature, transparency and water level. However, from the findings of this study suggested that the water quality parameters of the selected sites were found to be suitable for the survival of aquatic organism.J. Bangladesh Agril. Indian major carp, Cirrhinus cirrhosus was considered to monitor culture and health status in farm condition from Bhaluka and Muktagacha of Mymensingh region of Bangladesh for a period of seven months starting from September, 2010 to March, 2011. Monthly sampling was carried out for growth and health condition. Samples of skin and muscle, gill, liver and kidney were observed by clinical and histological techniques. Water temperature was at unfavorable levels but, dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity, ammonia and nitrite of water were within the favorable range for fish culture during the months of December and January. Clinically weak body, rough skin, scale loss, thick gill filaments, ulcer and gray brownish color were observed. Among the affected fish organs like skin, muscle and gill were found to be more affected than those of the internal organs, liver and kidney. Major pathologies in the skin and muscle were loss of epidermis and dermis, presence of fungal granuloma, fungal hyphae, necrosis, hemorrhages, vacuums and melanocytes. Protozoan cysts, clubbing, hemorrhages, necrosis and hypertrophy were found in the gill. Necrosis, hemorrhage, pyknosis and vacuums were observed in liver. Common pathological signs like necrosis, hemorrhage, pyknosis, vacuums and degenerated kidney tubules were noticed in kidney. Overall, in the clinical and histopathological studies fishes were found to be more affected during the colder months i.e., December and January. Whereas, in the month of February the pathological condition of fish gradually started to heal up. In histopathological observation, fishes of Bhaluka farms were more affected than that of Muktagacha fish farms. Investigation on health conditions and diseases of juvenile catla (Catla catla) was carried out for clinical and histopathological observations from different farms of Mymensingh region.  A total of eight (8) farms, four Government (Govt.) and four Private (Pvt.) fish farms were selected for the study. The Indian major carp - catla was examined during June, 2010 to May, 2012. Monthly samplings were carried out with 5 fishes from each farm. Altogether 960 fish hosts were examined during the study period. Water quality parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia, hardness, alkalinity, transparency and depth of water etc. were taken and management practices were investigated fortnightly interval. These were almost similar for all experimental ponds. The risk of being infestation by parasites of catla significantly (p<0.001) increased when the water quality parameters were not maintained the optimum level. Clinical examination of fishes was also carried out for any kind of abnormalities at monthly intervals. For histopathological studies skin, muscle, gill, liver and kidney were collected, processed and stained in Haematoxylin and Eosin. Histologically, catla of different fish farms were more affected in colder months (October to January). Structures of fish organs were normal from March to July. In the months of September, minor pathologies were found to be started and in the months of February the pathological condition of fish gradually reduced. Pathological changes like necrosis, fungal granuloma, protozoan and monogenean cyst, vacuolation, melanomacrophase, haemorrhage, hypertrophy, hyperplasia and clubbing were recorded in all the investigated organs. Among them fish gills and skin were more affected followed by liver and kidney. Again when considered individual fish farm, fish of Pvt. Fish farms were more affected than others. The study showed that severity of clinically and pathologically changes were gradually increased in November to January. During the period mixed infection of protozoa, monogenea and argulus were noticed in catla of the investigated farms.

The study was made to investigate the potential physico-chemical water quality of Elengena beel. In this study 40 nos water samples were collected from 4 sampling sites (10 from each) of Elengena beel and had been analyzed for some water quality parameters and ranges of results were found as - water temperature, transperancy, depth, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), total solids (TS), total alkalinity (TA), total hardness (TH), chloride (Cl-) and fluoride (F-). silicates (SiO2), free carbondioxide (FCO2), nitrate (NO3-), phosphate (PO43-), colour and odour. Nutrients were determined by following the standard procedures outlined in the American Public Health Association (APHA). The result showed that water temperature, transperancy, depth, pH, DO, BOD, COD, TA, TH, TS, TDS, SiO2 , F-CO2 , Cl- , NO3- , and PO43-were 19.9 ±0.28; 21.5 ± 0.71; 1.0 ± 0.23; 6.8 ± 0.15; 4.1 ± 0.34; 51.8 ± 2.32; 58.61 ± 3.22; 156.2 ± 1.2; 210.5 ± 0.2; 153.8 ±0.90; 170.2 ±0.60; 49.2 ± 0.85; 2.87 ± 0.02; 10.91 ± 1.32; 0.20 ± 0.01 and 0.10 ± 0.1 mg/L respectively. All the measured parameters were within the standard values of WHO. In general the present investigation found that the maximum parameters were not at a level of pollution. In order to stop further deterioration of Elengena beel water quality and to eventually restore the beneficial uses of the beel, management of effluents of Nagaon paper mill in the beel watershed should be given urgent priority.

Monthly variations of the physicochemical parameters in some selected water bodies (12 Beels and 210 ponds) in Natore during July 2006 and June 2007 have been studied. The highest values for water temperature, alkalinity, ammonia, free CO2, DO, pH and total hardness in Beel waters were 31.5°C (May '07), 180ppm (January and February '07), 2.5ppm (September '06), 9.6ppm (April '07), 7.5ppm (January '07), 8.6 (December '06) and 190ppm (February '07), respectively and the lowest values were 15°C (February '07), 35ppm (October '06), 0.5ppm (December '06), 6.3ppm (January '07), 4.8ppm (April '07), 6.8 (September '06) and 50ppm (September '06), respectively. The highest and lowest values of these parameters in pond waters were 33°C (May '07), 200ppm (March'07), 2.3ppm (July '06), 9.3ppm (April '07), 7.5ppm (January '07), 8.6 (November '06) and 200ppm (February '07) respectively, and 17°C (December '06), 50ppm (October '06), 0.6ppm (December '06 and January '07), 6.4ppm (January '07), 5.0ppm (May '07), 6.2 (April '07) and 40ppm (September '06) respectively. Changing in water quality parameters resulted in a stress response in the fishes, making them more susceptible to parasitic attacks and diseases, many of them being fatal.
