An experiment was conducted during 20 November 2015 through March 20I6 to assess the effect of planting dates on growth and yield performance of three potential varieties of potato at Plant Physiology research field, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur. Three planting dates (November 20, December 5 and December 29) and three varieties (var. BARI Alu-35, BARI Alu-40 and BARI Alu-41) were the treatment variables. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Maximum plant height (42.3 cm) was observed in 5 December sowing in var. BARI Alu-40. Highest number of tuber/plant (13) was recorded from December 5 sowing in var. BARI Alu-41. The highest leaf area was found in December 5 sowing of BARI Alu-40 while the lowest leaf area in November 20 sowing in var. BARI Alu-35. The highest tuber weight/plant (97.25 g) was observed in var. BARI Alu-5 at December 5 sowing and the lowest tuber weight/plant (25.58 g) in var. BARI Alu-35 at November 20 sowing. The maximum potato yield (42.12 t/ha) was obtained at December 5 sowing of BARI Alu-35 followed by same date of var. BARIAlu- 41. From the experiment it was revealed that the first decade of December is the optimum date for planting of potato due to the physiological maturity and tuber yield.Bangladesh Agron. The present investigation was executed at Agricultural Research Field, Noakahali Science and Technology University, Noakhali, Bangladesh to access the effects of variety and integrated application of vermicompost, biochar and urea on efficiency of boro rice yield. The experiment was accomplished during the period from November 2018 to May 2019. It was completed in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatments assigned in a factorial arrangement of 2 × 4, with 2 varieties of rice (V1-BINA dhan 8, V2- BINA dhan 10) and 4 integration of vermicompost, biochar, and urea (T1: Vermicompost-2.5 t ha-1, T2: Vermicompost-2 t ha-1+ Biochar 0.5 t ha-1, T3: Vermicompost-1.5 t ha-1+ Biochar 1 t ha-1 and T4: Vermicompost-1.5 t ha-1 + Urea-150kg ha-1/0.15 t ha-1). Data were collected to analyze growth and yield contributing characters of boro rice. All the parameters were not statistically significant to differ. According to variety highest grain (3.73 t ha-1) and straw (2.8 t ha-1) yield was found from BINA dhan 10 in comparison with BINA dhan 8. In case of integrated application of vermicompost, biochar and urea, superior grain and straw yield were obtained from T4: Vermicompost-1.5 t ha-1 + Urea-0.15 t ha-1 whereas lowest grain yield (3.01 t ha-1 recorded from integrated application vermicompost and biochar. In combine maximum grain (4.92 t ha-1) and straw (4.40 t ha-1) yield was noted from BINA dhan 10 alone with integrated application of vermicompost and urea whereas the lowest data (grain: 2.50 t ha-1; straw: 1.64 t ha-1) was found from BINA dhan 8 along with vermicompost and biochar.

The effect of nitrogen (0, 80, 120, and 160 kg/ha from urea) and sulphur (0, 20, 40, and 60 kg/ha from gypsum) fertilization on N and S uptake and yield performance of onion (var. BARI Piaz-1) was studied in the research field of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Joydebpur, Gazipur during rabi seasons of 2002-2003 and 2003-2004. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design under factorial arrangement with three replications. Addition of nitrogen and sulphur fertilizers exerted significant influence on the number of leaves/plant, plant height, diameter of bulb, single bulb weight, and yield of onion. The uptake of N and S by bulb also significantly responded to the application of nitrogen and sulphur. The highest yield of onion and the maximum uptake of N and S were recorded by the combined application of 120 kg N and 40 kg S/ha with a blanket dose of 90 kg P2O5, 90 kg K2O, and 5 kg Zn/ha plus 5 tons of cowdung/ha. The antagonistic effect of nitrogen and sulphur on the uptake of N and S by bulb, yield components, and yield of onion was observed only when they were applied together at higher rates of nitrogen (160 kg/ha) and sulphur (40kg/ha). Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.) is a perennial summer flower grown by smallholders in Kenya for export. However, its production and export volumes have declined drastically due to nematodes infestation. This study evaluated the effect of Cleome gynandra accessions on nematode management on tuberose. Experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Research Field, Egerton University, Kenya using a randomized complete block design with four replications. The treatments were: five accessions of C. gynandra namely ‘Simlaw’, ‘Egerton’, ‘Taastrup’, ‘PS’ and ‘IP8’, applied at 6 kg/m2 and compared with Brassica napus, solarization and untreated control. Data was collected on growth and yield parameters, nematode infestation and quality of tuberose. Data collected was subjected to analysis of variance at p≤0.05 and means separated using Tukey’s test. Biofumigation with Cleome gynandra accessions helped to reduce nematode population by 34%, gall numbers by 83% and galling index by be 96% when compared with the control. Use of biofumigation helped to improve plant height and leaf number of tuberose by 16% and 87%, respectively, when compared with the control. Use of biofumigation helped to improve spike length by 32%, marketable spikes by 80%, and flower yield by 90% and reduced nonmarketable spikes by 95% when compared with the control. Based on the above results, use of Cleome gynandra accessions and other biofumigants such as rape seed can be used to manage nematodes and improve growth, yield and quality of tuberose.

A study was conducted at the Floriculture Research Field of Horticulture Research Centre of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) during the period from November 2006 to May 2008 to determine the optimum rate of N and K for better growth and yield of corm and cormel of gladiolus. The treatment combination N150 K200 kg/ha produced the longest plant (42.1 cm), the broadest leaf (1.93 cm), the maximum percentage of spikes (88.1%), and corm (97.6%), the heaviest and the largest corm (19.5 g and 4.11 cm, respectively), cent percent flowering sized corm, and the highest corm number and cormel yield (1,20,000 and 1.66 t/ha, respectively). The corm produced from this treatment combination also showed better performances in the next year in respect of plant emergence (100%), florets/spike (13.1), spike and rachis length (82.2 cm and 45.4 cm, respectively), flower stick weight (57.1 g) and percentage of flower sticks (113%). The present experiment was carried out at Agricultural Research field, Noakahali Science and Technology University, Noakhali, Bangladesh during the period from September 2018 to February 2019 to find out the effects of Vermicompost and Farmyard manure growth and yield of Broccoli. The single factor experiment was carried out by Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Three treatments viz., T0= Control, T1= Vermicompost and T2= Farm Yard Manure as well as Centeuro variety were used. Data were recorded from different stages of plant growth on plant height at different days after transplanting, number of leaves/plant, leaf length, leaf diameter, plant spread, 50% curd initiation days, 50% curd maturation days, curd diameter, Marketable curd weight, Net curd weight and Yield/plot. All the recorded parameters were statistically significant among the treatments. The tallest plant (43.67cm) can be recorded from T1 (vermicompost) whereas lower plant height (38.10cm) was notified from control (T0). The maximum number of leaves (16.03) recorded from vermicompost treated plant where minimum from control (T0; 13.28). Highest leaf length (40.67cm), leaf diameter (16.22cm), plant spread (47.91cmü), early curd initiation (73.22 days), early curd maturation (89.72 days), curd diameter (16.16cm), marketable curd weight (452.67g), net curd weight (361.43g) and yield/plot (3.94kg) was found from vermicompost treated plant is compared with Farmyard manure whereas lowest data recorded from control. Observing the results it can be stated that using of vermicompost treated plants gave better growth and yield contributing characters of Broccoli in contemporary with other treatments.

A field experiment was carried out at the research field of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Gazipur, during rabi (winter) season of 2016-17 to evaluate the effects of fertilizer treatments on black cumin (BARI Kalozira-1). The field belongs to Shallow red-brown terrace soil of Salna series under AEZ-28 (Madhupur Tract). The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Results showed that the application of nutrient elements had positive effect on plant height, branches per plant, capsule setting, umbels per plant, capsules per plant, capsule size, seeds per capsule, 1000-seed weight and seed yield of black cumin. The highest seed yield (1277 kg ha-1) was obtained from 75% RDCF + 25% cowdung-N treatment followed by 100% RDCF (N80P45K50S20Zn5B2 kg ha-1) and the lowest seed yield (420 kg ha-1) was recorded with 50% RDCF. Thus, the IPNS treatment 75% RDCF + 25% cowdung-N appeared to be the best suitable package for black cumin cultivation in this location.Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 43(2): 205-210, June 2018

The experiment was conducted at the College of Agriculture- Laboratory, Mindanao State UniversityMarawi City. Objective of the study is to determine the effects of Oriental Herbal Nutrients (OHN) on the growth and yield performance of lettuce. Treatments are: T1 (Garlic), T2 (Ginger), T3 (Black Pepper), T4 (Onion), and T5 (Control) with a dilution rate of concoction of 1 tbsp. OHN: 1 liter of water. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Plant height, number of leaves developed, pest incidence, insect damage rate, weight per plant, and yield per plot were measured. Result showed that the highest treatment mean (6.32 cm.) was recorded in T4 and the lowest (4.03 cm.) was in T5 which revealed a highly significant effect. The highest treatment mean (5.17) for the number of leaves was found in T4 and the lowest (3.89) was observed in T5. In the case of insect damage rate, the highest treatment mean scale of 1.98 was obtained in T5 and the lowest (1.31) was observed in T3. In addition, the highest treatment mean (4.91) for pest incidence was observed in T5 and the lowest (2.08) was found in T1 which showed a highly significant result as well. In addition, the weight per plant revealed the highest treatment mean (49.25) in T4 and the lowest (29.41) was observed in T5. Study revealed that the highest and lowest yield per plot with 4.15 and 2.57 treatment mean were observed in T4 and T5, respectively. In this experiment, the application of OHN significantly influences the growth and yield performance of lettuce.

An experiment was conducted in order to identify the productive genotype of turmeric for the plains of Nepal. In 2017 and 2018, seven promising turmeric genotypes (CI 0207, CI 0205, CI 9102, CI 1312, CI 0503, CI 0507, and CI 0201) were compared with KKH-1 in a Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications at the Directorate of Agricultural Research, Tarahara, Nepal. The plants were 30 cm x 30 cm apart, with 40 plants per 3.6 m2 plot area. Cultural practices were followed in accordance with the recommendations. Analysis of variance, correlation, cluster, and GGEbiplot analysis were performed on the observed data. From the pooled analysis of two years of data, the results showed significant differences in plant height and fresh rhizome yield among genotypes. The rhizome yield of KKH-1 was found significantly higher (19.36 t ha-1) than CI 0205 and CI 9102 and at par with other genotypes. Weight of mother rhizome had significant positive correlation (r = 0.602**) with yield of fresh rhizome. Though KKH-1 yielded the highest fresh rhizome, the cluster and GGEbiplot analysis identified CI0207 as one of the potential turmeric clones next to KKH-1.

An experiment was conducted during the Agricultural spring seasons 2019 at Abul-Khasib, Basrah. The experiment included 6 treatments combination resulted from the interaction between two plant distances (30 and 60 cm apart), with the addition of three concentrations of vitamin C (0, 20, 40) Mg. liter-1. Randomized Complete Block Design was used in a factorial experiment, mean variations replication compared at 0.05. Results can be summarized as follows: The plant spacing of 60 cm caused a significant effect on the all of the results of vegetative growth (leaves number, surface leaf area, total soluble of carbohydrates contents and chlorophyll) except plant height it gave a significant increase in 30 cm. whereas, the plant spacing of 60 cm gave a significant reduction in the (fruit weight, fruit number. plant-1 and yield. plant-1). Regarding the spraying, levels increased significantly in all component, except pod length it gave a significant decrease in vitamin C levels increased. While there was no significant effect on the interaction between the two studied factors.

ABSTRACT The growth and yield of taro plants can be influenced by the planting material used, and the use of improper types of planting material can cause plants to be unproductive according to potential yields. The use of planting materials derived from tubers is expected to increase the yield of taro. This study aims to determine the best type of planting material to increase the yield of taro. The experiments were carried out in the villages of Antirogo, Sumbersari, Jember, East Java with an altitude of ± 89 meters above sea level starting in April 2018 to October 2018. The experiment used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) method with 2 treatment factors. Factor 1 is the type of planting material (B), B1: Bulbs; B2: Puppies; B3: Stolon. Factor 2 is taro variety (V), V1: Green Taro; B2: Brown Taro; B3: Purple Line Green Taro. Each repeated 4 times. The results showed that there was an interaction between the use of different types of planting material and varieties that had an effect on tuber weight per plant. The type of planting material has a significant effect on the number of tillers, leaf area, tuber weight, and tube diameter. Varieties significantly affect all observed variables. The treatment that gave the best results was planting material from tubers (B1) and Purple Line Green taro varieties (V3) with tuber yield per plant 362.58 grams (± 14.5 tons/ha). Keywords: taro, planting material, varieties ABSTRAK Pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman talas dapat dipengaruhi oleh bahan tanam yang digunakan, dan penggunaan macam bahan tanam yang kurang tepat dapat menyebabkan tanaman tidak produktif sesuai dengan hasil potensial. Penggunaan bahan tanam yang berasal dari umbi diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan hasil talas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan macam bahan tanam terbaik untuk meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan hasil talas. Percobaan dilakukan di desa Antirogo, Sumbersari, Jember, Jawa Timur dengan ketinggian ± 89 mdpl dimulai pada bulan April 2018 sampai Oktober 2018. Percobaan menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan 2 faktor perlakuan. Faktor 1 yaitu macam bahan tanam (B), B1: Umbi; B2: Anakan; B3: Stolon. Faktor 2 yaitu varietas talas (V), V1: Talas Hijau; V2: Talas Coklat; V3: Talas Hijau Garis Ungu. Perlakuan diulang sebanyak 4 kali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat interaksi antara penggunaan macam bahan tanam dan varietas yang memberikan pengaruh terhadap bobot umbi per tanaman. Macam bahan tanam berpengaruh nyata terhadap jumlah anakan, luas daun, bobot umbi, dan diameter umbi. Varietas berpengaruh nyata terhadap seluruh variabel pengamatan. Perlakuan yang memberikan hasil terbaik yaitu bahan tanam dari umbi (B1) dan varietas talas Hijau Garis Ungu (V3) dengan hasil bobot umbi per tanaman 362,58 gram (±14,5 ton/ha).
