The Family

Five species of the family Rubiaceae belonging to five genera are reported here as new records for Bangladesh. These species are Catunaregam longispina (Link) Tirveng, Galium pusillosetosum Hara, Ophiorrhiza eriantha Wight, Spermacoce exilis (Williams) Adams ex Burger et Taylor and Tarenna stellulata (Hook.f.) Ridl. In Bangladesh, occurrence of the genus Galium L. is also a new record. Each species is presented with updated nomenclature, commonly known synonyms, taxonomic description, ecology, geographical distribution, places of occurrence in Bangladesh, citation of examined specimens and supplementary notes. Critical examinations of some unnamed specimens of the family Rubiaceae collected from Sylhet, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Rangamati districts confirmed the identification of five species which have not been previously recorded from Bangladesh. These species are: Argostemma sarmentosum Wall., Mussaenda incana Wall. ex Roxb., Mycetia mukerjiana Deb & Dutta, Oxyceros rugulosus (Thwaites) Tirveng. and Tarenna helferi (Kurz) N.P. Balakr. The genus Argostemma Wall. is also a new record for Bangladesh. These species are described and illustrated along with ecology, geographical distribution and occurrence. Three New Species

This paper reports on mites of the family Pachylaelapidae collected in Bayburt Province, Turkey, during 2013–2015. Nine species were recorded in the genera Pachyseius, Olopachys, Pachylaelaps, and Onchodellus. Pachylaelaps (Longipachylaelaps) bayburtensis sp. nov., Onchodellus turcicus sp. nov. and O. montanus sp. nov. are described to new, and Pachylaelaps (Longipachylaelaps) vicarus is a new record for the Turkish mite fauna. New records extend the geographic range of Pachyseius masani, Olopachys hallidayi, and O. elongatus in Turkey.

A New Species

A new species of the genus Pseudechiniscus, Pseudechiniscus papillosus sp. nov., is described and figured in this paper. This new species differs from the other species of the genus Pseudechiniscus by plate sculpture that consists of many papillae-like projections. Four new records of Echiniscus species and one new record of a Pseudechiniscus species are also reported in this article: Echiniscus cheonyoungi Moon & Kim, E. melanophthalmus Bartoš, E. nepalensis Dastych, E. trisetosus Cuénot and Pseudechiniscus asper Abe Utsugi & Takeda.

Two new species of Opilioacaridae from Mexico are described, Neocarus chactemalensis sp. nov. and N. comalensis sp. nov., and new records for N. texanus Chamberlin & Mulaik and N. veracruzensis Vazquez & Klompen are presented. Relative positions of internal structures of the ovipositor, a highly variable character, are described based on comparisons of invaginated and evaginated ovipositors. A study of records of Opilioacaridae in Mexico shows that the group is distributed across a wide range of ecosystems and elevations, from dry, semi-desert to wet tropical forest, and coastal plains to the altiplano (>2,000m).

Boreal Mixedwood Forest

Lepidoptera were collected, primarily via UV light trap, for three seasons in the boreal mixedwood forest near Lac La Biche, Alberta. A total of 11,111 specimens were collected, representing 41 families and 438 species. A species list with flight times is presented. The total Lepidoptera community was estimated to be 546 ± 23.34 species. Abundance and species richness peaked in late July. Thirty-five species constitute new records for Alberta, while one species, Acanthopteroctetes bimaculata, is a new record for Canada, and the first record of the family Acanthopteroctetidae in Canada.

The Family

Diradops is an endemic genus of the family Ichneumonidae in the American Continent; the majority of its species in the Neotropical Region. Seven species are present in Mexico, including a new record for Mexico, D. bionica Ugalde & Gauld, 2002 (previously recorded only from Costa Rica); D. hyphantriae Kasparyan & Pinson, 2007 and D. pulcher Kasparyan, 2007 are new records for the State of Oaxaca.

A total of 6 species of freshwater mussels under the family Unionidae, order- Unionoida were collected, which are new records for Bangladesh. The information on the distribution and ecology, population density and seasonal variation of Lamellidens phenchooganjensis, L. indawgyiensis, L. generosus, Parreysia (Parreysia) favidens var. assamensis, P. (P.) var. marcens and P. (P.) var. viridula were provided in this paper. Population density and morphometric parameters were measured. This study deals with exploration of freshwater desmids for the first time from Ropar wetland (Ramsar site) of Punjab (India) to assess their taxonomic aspects and bio-geographical distribution. During this study, samples of planktonic, epiphytic and epilithic desmids were collected from littoral zone and were observed under light microscope for their morphometric characteristics based identification. Total 21 desmids species belonging to 4 genera of 2 families (Closteriaceae and Desmidiaceae) were identified from the collected samples. Among them, Cosmarium with 11 species (C. awadhense, C. bioculatum, C. trilobatum, C. divergens, C. granatum, C. moniliforme, C. nitidulum, C. subtumidum, C. reniforme, C. undulatum and C. obtusatum) was found to be most abundant followed by Closterium with 7 species (C. acerosum, C. dianae, C. incurvum, C. leibleinii, C. lunula, C. pritchardianum and C. aciculare), Euastrum with 2 species (E. spinulosum and E. platycerum) and Staurastrum with 1 species (S. crenulatum). The geographic distribution of identified desmid taxa in India has been also recorded. All the desmid taxa identified during this study are new record for the Punjab state of India. The results of this study provide significant baseline data for the future taxonomic and ecological studies from the similar habitats.

Taxonomic notes are presented on the former Ascalaphidae (owlflies), now subfamily Ascalaphinae of the family Myrmeleontidae from Pakistan. An updated checklist of new records is provided that accounts for all known 15 genera and 22 species from Pakistan, excluding the species of the tribe Palparini. Geographical distribution maps and an updated identification key to all known genera and species from Pakistan are also given. We synonymized two monotypic genera, Horischema Mészáros & Ábrahám, 2003 and Perissoschema Mészáros & Ábrahám, 2003 both as junior synonyms of Ogcogaster Westwood, 1847 based on very similar male genitalia and external morphological characters. Moreover, Perissoschema evae Mészáros & Ábrahám, 2003 is treated as a junior synonym of Ogcogaster segmentator Westwood, 1847. We recorded three genera for the first time from Pakistan, i.e., Acheron Lefèbvre, 1842, Glyptobasis McLachlan, 1873, and Suphalomitus van der Weele, 1909. To more completely resolve the generic or specific status of those poorly known species from Pakistan, broader sampling throughout the country is needed.

Sampling between 1999 and 2007 of the recent ostracod fauna of Lake Biwa, an ancient lake located in Japan, produced ten Cyprididae and one Ilyocyprididae species. One Cyprididae species, belonging to the genus Ilyodromus is described herein, Ilyodromus intermedius Okubo n. sp., and Bradleytriebella lineata (Victor & Fernando, 1981c) is redescribed. One Cyprididae species is a new record for Japan, namely Stenocypris malayica Victor & Fernando, 1981a, while seven others are new records for Lake Biwa. The family Ilyocyprididae is represented by only one species in Lake Biwa, Ilyocypris salebrosa Stepanaitys, 1960. The Lake Biwa population of this species is the first record of males and they are described in this paper. Including this study, forty ostracod species have now been reported from Lake Biwa. Most species (70%) were found at depths of less than 1 meter. Only four species were found below 44 m, the mean depth of the north basin.
