In Astore valley, 26 species of plants under 17 genera and 13 families were found to be used as folkmedicine. The study reveals that the villagers from remote area use medicinal plants for the treatment of joint pain, bone fracture, urine problem, asthma, diabetes, blood pressure and for the treatment of other common ailments. The aborigines also use traditional herbal therapy for their live stocks. Because of high destruction pressure of anthropogenic origin, Ephedra gerardiana Wallich ex C.A.Meyer, Berberis spp., Rosa foetida Herrm. and Rhododendron hypenanthum Balf. f. were found threatened. In Turtuk valley 50 species of plants were found to be used medicinal and nutritional. The study reveals that the villagers of remote area of baltistan in ancient time use medicinal plants for the treatment of many diseases. Eg. Joint pain, bone fracture, asthma, blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, dysentery headaches, toothaches etc. In addition, treatment for their livestock.

The present study initiated with an aim to highlight and document the traditional knowledge and medicinal plants used by the Kurumba tribes inhabiting at Chemmankarai area of Nilgiri district, Tamilnadu. During the study selected study area was visited frequently and information was collected through semidirective, open ended interview among the informants of Kurumba tribes. The details on vernacular name of the plant, mode of diagnosis, disease they treat, usage of plants, mode of application were collected. The plants were identified and deposited at the herbaria of Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore. The results revealed that the total 56 plant species belonging to 31 families and 47 genera have been documented in the present study. The highest number plants being used for fever and wound healing (7), Insect bite, migraine, bath, ulcer, immunity and throat pain (4) followed by joint pain, tooth ache and asthma (3). The habit of the species showed that 68 % of the drugs were obtained from the herbs compared with the other habit plants. The reported potential ethnomedicinal plants could be conserved and further validation need for better utilization and provisions of the documented knowledge.

Like other populations of developing countries, most of the populations of Ethiopia depend greatly on the use of traditional herbal medicines as the primary source of health care. However, these resources have been degraded throughout the country. Therefore, recording and documenting medicinal plants are essential for the future conservation of the species. Thus, the current study is related to this issue. Three hundred ninety-five informants participated in this study. The main data collection tools were semistructured interviews, discussions, and observation. The data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The quantitative methods (informant consensus factor, fidelity level) were used to analyze the level of homogeneity of the data, the agreements of informants, and the healing potential of medicinal plants. The ranking exercises (preference and direct matrix ranking) were used to quantify the most preferred and multipurpose medicinal plants. A statistical test was conducted using SPSS version 20 to test knowledge differences among the people. Following the analysis, 112 species of medicinal plants with 62 families were recorded. Most of the species were herbs, of which Fabaceae was the dominant family. Blood pressure and asthma were the most commonly reported human health problems. Most of the remedies were prepared from leaves, and most of them were prepared by pounding and were applied orally. Gastrointestinal diseases had the highest informant consensus. Five medicinal plants were recorded with the highest healing potential value for malaria, asthma, tapeworm, cough, and stomach ulcer. Verbascum sinaiticum Benth. was the most preferred medicinal plant in treating blood pressure. Trigonella foenum-graecum L. had the highest use value. The analysis results showed that local people showed significant knowledge differences ( p < 0.05 ). In conclusion, the indigenous people have a wealth of indigenous herbal knowledge. Therefore, to sustain the wealth of indigenous knowledge of the districts, immediate and well-designed conservation practices of medicinal plants should be conducted.

Objective: To assess the antihypertensive efficacy of the medicinal plants used Hibiscus subdariffa, Plantago major, Teucrium polium. Moreover, we aim to Investigate the mechanisms of actions of tested agents. Design: Induced hypertension in experimental animals is tested against several drugs and medicinal plants extracts. Animals and materials: Hypertension was induced in experimental rabbits with phenylephrine 0.2mg/kg i.v. with increasing the dose (until Blood pressure>130/90mmHg). Rabbits were divided to 7 groups: Control, atenolol, furosemide, candesartan, Hibiscus subdariffa, Plantago major, Teucrium polium. ANOVA with Dunnett's test was implemented for statistical calculations with p<0.05 as significance level. Results: Candesartan was the most effective in lowering both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Concerning the blood flow, candesartan was found to be the most significantly effective drug in increasing blood flow followed by furosemide and Hibiscus subdariffa respectively. Concerning the urine output furosemide was found to be the most significantly effective drug in increasing urine output followed by Hibiscus subdariffa. The aqueous extracts of Plantago major and Teucrium polium showed no significant effect. Conclusions: Hibiscus subdariffa is effective as diuretic agent at the concentration mentioned. Its action involves diuretic and vasodilator effect. While aqueous extracts of Plantago major and Teucrium polium are not effective.

ABSTRACTAn ethnobotanical study of medicinal plants was carried in the province of Sidi Kacem (Morocco), whose objective is to make an inventory of medicinalplants used in traditional therapy against respiratory, digestive, and cutaneous infections; also to describe their mode of use practiced by the localpopulation. The tool of the study was a questionnaire completed by 200 citizens of four investigated areas, determined by the stratified samplingtechniques, 40% practiced phytotherapy. The survey consists of a section on the informant, and another is interested in plants used by the population.The analysis of information has established a catalog of 73 species identified with their use of frequencies, partly used and the method of preparation.They belong to 39 families; the most dominant are Lamiaceae, Apiaceae, and Asteraceae. The leaves are the most used part in decoction to treat thethree types of infection mentioned above. These results allow us to create a database about this region’s plants characteristic.
