The structure of Cichla kelberi population was characterized regarding the sex ratio, total length composition and some reproductive characteristics. The specimens were collected in two periods, from November 2002 to November 2003 and from December 2004 to May 2006. The sex ratio was significantly different than 1:1. The total length varied from 3.4 to 40.1 cm, with individuals in the shortest length classes occurring throughout the year, but with greater incidence in the warmer periods. Females and males reached similar lengths and there was no difference between the sexes regarding the length-weight relationship. The estimated values of condition factor were near the central value of 1.0 and decreased during the cooler months, coinciding with periods of lower reproductive activity. Individuals with mature or semi-spent gonads occurred from November to April, indicating that Cichla kelberi reproduces for a long period of time. The spawning is partitioned, with an average absolute fecundity of 6072 oocytes (from 5220 to 6908 oocytes). The high relative condition factor values, long reproductive period, large output of fingerlings and high fecundity are biological conditions that indicate the species is well adapted in this reservoir.

AbstractThe aim of this study was to determine the growth features of European perch (Perca fluviatilis L., 1758) inhabiting Lake Ladik. A total of 858 individuals were caught. The total length and weight ranged from 8.2 to 27.5 cm and from 7.16 to 365.20 g, respectively. The age of the females ranged between 1 and 7 years and the age of the males ranged from 1 to 5 years. The female to male ratio was 1:0.19. The von Bertalanffy growth equation parameters were determined as L∞=41.27 cm, W∞=1251.40 g, K=0.10 (year−1), t0 (year)=−1.98 for all samples. Length-weight relationship was calculated as W=0.0047TL3.358 for all specimens. Length-length relationships (total length-standard length, total length-fork length, standard length-fork length) were highly significant (r2>0.98). The mean condition factor value was obtained as 1.28 for all fish. Condition factor showed statistically significant increase according to length classes.

Some biological characteristics of shabbot, Arabibarbus grypus (Heckel, 1843) in the Al-Diwaniya River, middle of Iraq were studied from October 2016 to September 2017. Water temperature ranged from 10.2oC in March to 32.8oC in August. A total of 853 fish were caught by seine, gill and cast nets and electro-fishing. A. grypus constituted about 6.27% of the total fish catch. The length-weight relationship was W=0.021*L2.7548 revealing an allometric growth. The mean relative condition factor was 0.91. Five age groups wore recorded and their mean total lengths were 20.2, 32.0, 39.0, 43.9 and 48.4 cm, respectively. The growth model of the species was  Lt= 58 [1-e -0.39 (t-0.313)]. The growth performance index (Φ) of A. grypus was computed as 3.11. The study declares that the species is a omnivore, feeding mainly on aquatic plants, insects, algae and detritus. The overall sex ratio (female: male) was 1.47:1. The highest values of gonado- somatic index (GSI) were 4.20 for female and 1.78 for males in April. The fecundity of the species ranged from 75600 to 124200 eggs.

A total of 1183 Botia Dario (Hamilton) samples were collected from Rajshahi (Shaheb Bazar, Binodpur Bazar, Talaimari Bazar, Kazla Bazar and Godagari) during the period from January, 2002 to August, 2003 to study the fecundity, sex-ratio, relationship between fecundity and total length, standard length, body weight, ovary length as well as ovary weight. The mean fecundity was calculated as 31833.50±10313.42 with a range of 5245 to 53754 in fishes ranging in total length from 96 mm to 135 mm (mean 115.50±12.11 mm) and in body weight from 14.51 g to 43.29 g (mean 29.71±6.91 g). The relationship between the fecundity (F) and total length (TL), standard length (SL), body weight (BW), ovary length (OL) and ovary weight (OW) were found to be linear with the ‘r’ values 0.94, 0.94, 0.95, 0.92 and 0.98, respectively. The ovum diameter ranged from 0.3 to 0.72 mm and the mean diameter was calculated as 0.518±0.06 mm. The male to female ratio was 1:0.61. Key words: Botia dario, fecundity, sex-ratio. Univ. j. zool. In this study, length-weight (LWR) and length-length relationships (LLRs), relative condition factor (krel) and Fulton’s condition factor (k) of 235 Hemiculter leucisculus Basilewsky were determined between the periods of March 2012 to February 2013 in Sefidroud River, in the Southwestern Caspian Sea basin. The maximum recorded total length for males and females were 16.90 cm and 18.10 cm, respectively. The length-length relationships among the total length (TL), fork length (FL) and standard length (SL) for H. leucisculus were found to be highly significant (r2>0.968, p<0.001). The length-weight relationship shows the obtained b values for males, females and male-females were 2.549, 2.680 and 2.465 respectively, which indicated a negative allometric growth trend of this species. Also, relative condition factor (Krel) for males, females and male-females were 0.710, 0.622 and 0.743 respectively and Fulton’s condition factor (K) for males, females and male-females were 0.922, 0.842 and 0.843 respectively. These results will be useful for ?shery managers to impose adequate regulations for sustainable ?shery management.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/on.v11i1.8240 Our Nature Vol.11(1) 2013: 25-30

The study of reproduction of Pseudotolithus elongatus in the Ebrie lagoon was investigated between July 2013 and June 2015 on a whole of individuals of 550 specimens. the total length ranges from 14.5 to 42.7 cm. The monthly evolution of the gonado-somatic index (GSI), the liver-somatic index (LSI), the condition factor (K), the Sex-ratio, the fecundity, the diameter of eggs revealed that this species spawns throughout the year but the main breeding period was in raining season. Sex-ratio observed was in favour of females (1: 1. 14; X2 = 2.26; p > 0.05). The percentage of mature specimens by sexes was calculated for each size class. Total length at first maturity was 21.06 cm for females and 20.21cm for males. The ripe ovaries contained 39883-814757 eggs. The relative fecundity was 216-1979 eggs per g of body weight of females. And the mean diameter of eggs is 336 ±138 microns.

The current study describes the length-weight relationships and condition factor of Bombay duck, Harpadon nehereus from landings of Fishery Ghat, Chittagong. A total of 300 individuals caught by various mesh size of gill nets by commercial fishers were investigated from April 2016 to June 2016. On the basis of hypothetical cube law W=aLb, the variance of ‘b’ for both total length and standard length were estimated statistically (0.0090 and 0.0088 respectively). Using the value of t=1.96 at the 95% confidence limits for ‘b’ were estimated as 2.218 to 2.590 for total length-weight relationship and for standard length-weight relationship, 1.985 to 2.353 which indicated allometric growth pattern for both cases. The monthly relative condition factor during three months of observation (0.978, 1.033, and 1.097) showed no notable difference due to spawning strain, spent condition and lower feeding rate right after peak spawning season.Res. Some aspects of the reproductive biology viz. sex ratio, fecundity and reproductive periodicity of Amblypharyngodon mola were studied during March 2004 through February 2005 in Netrakona. Sex ratio was found to be 1:2.03. Fecundity varied from 1,291 to 12,797 with a mean value 5,751.46 ± 3,321.73 eggs. The relationships between Fecundity (F) and Total Length (TL), Standard Length (SL), Total Weight (TW), Gonadal length (GL) and Gonadal Weight (GW) were calculated and found to be highly significant. The mean of ova diameter was 1.4 ± 0.35mm. Different methods used to study the reproductive periodicity showed that the periodicity of A. mola starts from March and continues up to August with a peak in May.
