The investigation was conducted on some aspects of biology viz. morphometrics, meristics, length-weight relationship and coefficient of condition of the Bar-eyed goby Glossogobius giuris. The mean of total length (TL) (94.42 ± 18.52 mm), standard length (SL) (73.13 ± 3.45mm), pre-dorsal length (PDL) (28.8 ± 7.32mm), head length (HL) (23.9 ± 4.87mm), snout length (SnL) (8.15 ± 1.9 mm) and height of body (HB) (14.17 ± 3.29mm) were determined.The relationships between the total length and other body parameters were found to be positively correlated and highly significant. The fin formula is D1.6; D2.1/9-10; P1.17-21; P2.1/5; A.1/9; C.17. The length-weight relationships of combined sex of G. giuris were determined as Log TW = -4.802 + 2.857 Log TL. The coefficient of conditions from the ko of combined sex and from the kc of combined sex was determined as 0.834 ± 0.132 and 0.827 ± 0.027, respectively. A study on morphometrics, meristics sex ratio, ovary condition of Periophthalmodon schlosseri was conducted in 2001. The mean of total length (49.63 + 5.99 mm), standard length (40.84 + 5.30 mm), snout length (4.12 + 0.65 mm), head length (9.86 + 1.39 mm), height of body (6.89+1.24 mm) and the length of caudal peduncle (6.96 + 1.08 mm) were calculated. The length-weight relationship was determined as TW = 0.00004639+2.5882 TL. The fin formula was D1 . 8-9; D2 .1/10-13; P1 . 11-14; P2 . 11-14; A. 1/11. The sex ratio was found to be 1:0.63. The average of ovary length (6.2 +0.84 mm), ovary breadth (3.54 +0.95 mm) and diameter of ova (0.22 +0.04 mm) were also determined. Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. The mean values of total length (75.89 ± 13.09 mm), standard length (54.98 ± 7.07 mm), fork length (60.86 ± 9.14 mm), head length (14.75 ± 2.05 mm), snout length (3.79 ± 0.61 mm), pre-dorsal length (31.53 ± 3.18 mm), height of body (20.2 ± 4.11 mm) and total weight (6.62 ± 3.55g) of combined sex of Puntius chola were calculated. Relationships between total length and standard length, fork length, head length, snout length and pre-dorsal length of Puntius chola were found to be linear, positive and highly significant. The length-weight relationship in male, female and combined sex were determined as Log W=-4.510+2.810 Log L, LogW=-4.204+2.685 Log L and Log W=4.465+2.808 Log L respectively. The mean values of condition factor from observed value (ko) of male, female and combined sex were determined as 1.36 ± 0.089, 1.599 ± 0.181 and 1.515 ± 0.192 respectively. The mean values of condition factor from calculated value (kc) of male, female and combined sex were found to be 1.362 ± 0.054, 1.6 ± 0.124 and 1.511 ± 0.075 respectively. The mean values of relative condition factor of male, female and combined sex were registered as 0.999 ± 0.044 , 0.999 ± 0.064 and 0.999 ± 0.112 respectively. Sex ratio was found to be 1:1. Glossogobius giuris were collected during March to September 2013 from the Payra river to estimate the length-weight relationship with relative condition factor (Kn), fecundity, gonadosomatic index (GSI) and relation between fecundity and other parameters. The length-weight relationship was found to be Log W= 2.667 Log TL – 1.805 in male and Log W = 2.931 Log TL – 2.040 in female. The mean Kn were found to be 1.02±0.155 for male and 0.97±0.276 for female which indicates satisfactory condition of the fish population. The mean relative fecundity was ranged from 88495 to 264104 with a mean value of 171581±17855, having a average total length of 21.21±0.44 cm, body weight 70.22±4.62 g and gonad weight 2.74±0.31 g. The relationships among the fecundity, the total length, body weight, gonad weight were found to be linear and positively correlated. The mean GSI value was 3.42±0.33 and the highest GSI value was recorded 9.34±0.71 in the month of September. This study will help to introduce this species in sustainable aquaculture through proper management and for the development of induced breeding technique.

The study was carried out on the biological aspect of Redbelly Tilapia, Coptodon zillii collected from Oyan Lake, Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Ogun State, Nigeria, with the aim of contributing to the baseline data for carrying out further studies on its ecology, conservation and development. A total of two hundred and fifty four fish (254) specimens were caught from the Ibaro landing site of the Lake between March and July, 2015. The total length (cm), standard length (cm), head length (cm), body width (cm), body depth (cm), snout length (cm), eye diameter (cm) and body weight (g) were measured. The stomach content was also assessed in order to determine its food and feeding habit. The mean total-length, standard-length, head-length, eye-diameter, snout-length, body-depth, body-width and body-weight during the study were 10.98±0.61cm, 8.56±0.14cm, 2.5±0.08cm, 3.67±0.15cm, 1.52±0.11cm,1.37±0.17cm, 4.05±0.07cm, 34.25±3.02g respectively and their ranges were (4.5-18.7cm), (3.2-15.2cm), (1.1-5.8cm), (2.0-6.8cm), (0.8-3.0cm), (1.1-4.8cm), (1.4-7.3cm) and (6.0-132.0g). A negative allometric (b<3) growth pattern was observed for the stock. The meristic characteristics of C. zillii were (DFR) XIV 10 – XVI 14; PVR, AFR III 8 –III 9; PFR 10 – 13 respectively. Stomach analysis showed that diatoms were the most abundant food items in the diet of C. zillii numerically, 29.98%, while desmids were the most abundant food items in terms of frequency occurrence, 27.82%. This study concluded that C. zillii is not morphometrically and meristically different from the already classified from previous studies. Also, C. zillii thrives well on available plants and detritus.

The morphometric observations were made on total length, standard length, pre-caudal length, head length, eye diameter and depth of body at pectoral fin base of estuarine catfish M. gulio. Males and females showed homogeneity in characters. A linear relationship was found between total length and morphometric characters. Regression of length and weight did not deviate significantly from cube law indicating isometric growth. The fish exhibited sexual dimorphism. Thirty-two eggs of Pantanal caiman (Caiman crocodilus yacare) (Daudin, 1802) were incubated at 30° C. After 20 days of incubation at 30° C, the remaining eggs were distributed in the following way: seven at 34° C, seven at 32° C, six at 30° C and six at 28° C. At 32° C and 34° C a 100% hatchability was obtained while at 30° C 83.3% and at 28° C 66.6%. After hatching, the animals were kept for 120 days at the same temperature of their final incubation. Weight (g) control and morphometric (cm) analysis were carried out. The statistic design was totally randomized and the data were treated by regression analysis showing a quadratic behavior ( p<0.05). It was found that weight, total length (TTL), tail length (TL), snout- vent length (SVL), head length (HL), eye length (EL), snout length (SL), mid-point snout width (MSW), head width (HW), width of snout at nostrils (NW), distance between limbs (DBL) showed a higher development at the temperature range from 31.2° C to 31.8° C and circumference of belly at 30.0° C.

Morphometric characters and meristic count of a fish, Tor tor (Hamilton Buchanan) have been studied from river Ujh, a tributary of river Ravi in District Kathua, (J&K). Collection of samples on monthly basis was conducted for the study of morphological characters of Tor tor. Present study shows some deviations with respect to few morphometric characters and meristic counts that have been aptly discussed in the following discussion. The positive correlation has been observed between total length and external body parts. The highly strong correlated body parameter in relation to total length is standard length (r = 0.98) and least correlated with eye diameter (r = 0.32) and the highly correlated external body part in relation to standard length is caudal length (r = 0.96) and least correlated part is eye diameter (r = 0.35) and also strong correlation was observed between head length and maximum body depth (r = 0.93) and least correlation between head length and eye diameter (r = 0.23). The correlation analysis shows that all the morphometric characters change proportionally with increase in the total length. These results act as baseline data on morphometry of Tor tor which helps in easy identification and will be beneficial for the development of conservational strategies of the natural stocks of Tor tor in river Ujh, Kathua (J&K).

A total of 1183 Botia Dario (Hamilton) samples were collected from Rajshahi (Shaheb Bazar, Binodpur Bazar, Talaimari Bazar, Kazla Bazar and Godagari) during the period from January, 2002 to August, 2003 to study the fecundity, sex-ratio, relationship between fecundity and total length, standard length, body weight, ovary length as well as ovary weight. The mean fecundity was calculated as 31833.50±10313.42 with a range of 5245 to 53754 in fishes ranging in total length from 96 mm to 135 mm (mean 115.50±12.11 mm) and in body weight from 14.51 g to 43.29 g (mean 29.71±6.91 g). The relationship between the fecundity (F) and total length (TL), standard length (SL), body weight (BW), ovary length (OL) and ovary weight (OW) were found to be linear with the ‘r’ values 0.94, 0.94, 0.95, 0.92 and 0.98, respectively. The ovum diameter ranged from 0.3 to 0.72 mm and the mean diameter was calculated as 0.518±0.06 mm. The male to female ratio was 1:0.61. Key words: Botia dario, fecundity, sex-ratio. Univ. j. zool. Abstract The study was carried out between November 2014 and March 2016 to determine certain morphometric characteristics of two pipefish species occurring in Lake Bafa, Syngnathus abaster and Syngnathus acus. A total of 211 pipefish were captured during the sampling, including 77 individuals of S. abaster (♀: 25; ♂: 44; immature: 8) and 134 individuals of S. acus (♀: 31; ♂: 76; immature: 27). The male-female ratios were 1:1.76 and 1:2.45, respectively. A difference was found in sex ratios between the two species (p < 0.05). The mean length of the captured fish was 86.63 ± 16.77 mm for S. abaster and 82.63 ± 16.02 mm for S. acus and the relationship between the total length and weight, referred to as the length-weight relationship, was as follows: W = 0.00000001L3.71 (R2 = 0.89), and W = 0.000000007L3.86 (R2 = 0.83), respectively. Seven morphometric characteristics were analyzed. The analyses revealed that S. acus and S. abaster were significantly different from each other in terms of their body depth (p = 0.006; p < 0.05), mouth width (p = 0.004; p < 0.05) and height (p = 0.008; p < 0.05). High correlation values were obtained for TL/BD and TL/HD in S. abaster and S. acus, respectively (r > 1). In conclusion, among the congeneric species occurring in Lake Bafa, S. abaster and S. acus are characterized by a shorter head length and total length compared to their sea counterparts.

Total length and standard length (mm) were compared to weight (mg) in the Emerald Shiner (Notropis atherinoides - Rafinesque, 1818) in the western basin of Lake Erie. Length and weight relationship (n = 400), length-frequency distribution, and sex ratios were evaluated for  coastal and tributary habitats and compared to open water habitats. A strong positive correlation was observed between length and weight for both males and females. For males (n = 195) there was a significant positive relationship between standard length (SL) and weight (F = 935.64, d.f = 195; R2 = 0.989) and between total length (TL) and weight (F = 918.75, d.f. = 195; R2 = 0.991). In females (n = 205), there was also a strong positive correlation between SL and weight (F = 1108.18, d.f. = 204; R2 = 0.976) and between TL and weight (F = 1208.86, d.f. = 204; R2 = 0.983). This same positive relationship between SL and weight (F = 1909.58, d.f. = 399; R2 = 0.984,) and between TL and weight (F = 1960.07, d.f. = 399; R2 = 0.988) that was found for  the individual sexes was present in the combined data for the two sexes. Length-weight relationship patterns in Emerald Shiner were significantly influenced by sex (ANCOVA, F= 313.03, p < 0.01) and habitat (ANCOVA, F = 6.693, p = 0.013).  Three separate age classes were distinguished in the data. Age 0 males ranged from 15-33 mm TL, while age 0 females ranged from 18-30 mm TL. Age I males ranged from 39-78 mm TL and Age I females ranged from 42-78 mm TL. Age II+ males ranged from 78-111 mm TL and Age II+ females ranged from 81-108 mm TL. Emerald Shiner exhibit indeterminate growth and sex influenced growth patterns based on the von Bertalanffy growth model.
