Supporting mental health has nowadays become the main concern of employers since a growing number of employees is facing the problem of anxiety, loneliness, depression and the like. These problems were particularly emphasized with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. In significantly changed working conditions around the world, employees and employers have faced mental health problems that are related to numerous stressors and factors related to the pandemic. Given the circumstances, the question is how to protect the mental health of employees in order to preserve their productiveness and well-being after the crisis. The legal system has a very important role in this process, especially the regulations concerning occupational safety and health and labor law in general because it sets the framework which enables the subjects of employment to maneuver their rights and obligations during the pandemic. Therefore, this framework is a key element in taking occupational safety measures in order to preserve the mental health of employees.

Often, the employers allocate funds for occupational safety on the residual principle without considering the real needs in creating safe working conditions for the employees. This is especially topical for the small and medium-sized enterprises, whose budget, as a rule, does not allow to allocate sufficient funds for occupational safety. The substantiation is given concerning the need to improve modern systems for assessing the state of working conditions by integrating the missing elements, which are part of similar systems, selected during the analysis of domestic and foreign studies. In the critical review of foreign publications in the field of assessing the state of working conditions, the tools developed over the past 15 years are considered. The lines of business are selected related to the improvement of system for assessing the state of working conditions at the small and medium-sized Russian enterprises. To determine the most optimal methods, an algorithm is proposed for selecting the tools to assess the state of working conditions based on determining the efficiency parameter corresponding to each tool. Modern Russian methods are assessed in a similar way. As a result of the study, two tools for assessing the state of working conditions that are most optimal for small and medium-sized enterprises are selected. The analysis showed that the first selected method allows to assess the state of the personnel working conditions, i.e., gives a subjective assessment. The second method serves for an objective study of the estimated parameters, as well as for assessing the level of occupational hazard. Combined use of both tools can become the basis for the formation of a methodology for a comprehensive assessment of the state of working conditions at the small and medium-sized enterprises.

It is a challenge to prevent an occupational accident in any industrial activities. The aim of this study is to improve the safety and reduce the risk of occupational accidents at shipyard through developing a risk assessment. This paper describes the concept and methodology of risk assessment for occupational safety and its application. The methodology introduces an effective and useful assessment procedure to construct the database based on the past occupational accidents occurred at shipyards. Quantitative methodology is developed to understand the unsafe working conditions and environment at the shipyard by the convenient handheld to collect the data with Information Technology. Some examples of effective hazard countermeasures are suggested and a feasibility study is conducted to improve a walking environment at shipyards.

Abstract The organization of space and working conditions is very important in terms of its effectiveness. Each professional work determines activities that support occupational safety and health at the workplace. Lack of proper working conditions but also the time of exposure to dangerous, burdensome or harmful factors has an impact on the effectiveness of the work performed. Lack of balance between work and leisure in turn results in a decrease in work efficiency. The scientific and didactic work of academic teachers is related to the occurrence of diversified occupational hazards with particular emphasis on those that are the cause of musculoskeletal disorders. In this elaboration, the research, analysis and evaluation of the work effectiveness of academic teachers have been carried out. A questionnaire and a direct interview have been used as a research method. In addition, the pain intensity in individual parts of the body has been assessed in the last 12 months depending on the age of research and teaching staff using the NMQ questionnaire (Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire). For the purposes of the study, the survey was supplemented with the VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) scale to assess the severity of pain. The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the frequency and severity of musculoskeletal pain in academic teachers with regard to the effectiveness of their work

In the absence of uniform and unified requirements for the assessment of industrial risks at an enterprise, the system approach remains the only tool for a comprehensive assessment of the workplace safety. Implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) system involves identifying, analyzing and reducing risks at the workplace. The purpose of the article is to calculate the minimum expenses for occupational safety measures and minimize production risks identified through the developed procedure for analyzing the hazards of the machine-building enterprise. The research methodology is based on the integrated use of qualitative and quantitative approaches to risk assessment, namely, structured assessment and integral assessment using the “rucksack problem” optimization model. The study identifies the risks that are most common and the most serious ones. The procedure of risk reduction is proposed, which is to determine the minimum costs for achieving each of the integral assessments for the machine-building enterprise. The practical value of work consists in the ability to directly apply the developed methodology for risk assessment at the enterprises of the machine-building industry, and to easily adapt the risk assessment procedure to other conditions.

PurposeThis study aims to (1) investigate the association between companies' investment in occupational safety and their financial performance and (2) discuss the importance of occupational safety to overall performance.Design/methodology/approachOccupational safety is often considered to be a practice that can yield suboptimal return on investment. However, it is not known whether this belief is substantiated by evidence. A mapping review of the eligible research literature (N = 36) regarding firms' investment in occupational safety and their financial performance, published between 1945 and2018, was carried out in the Web of Science database.FindingsBy dispelling myths regarding return on investment associated with occupational safety, the findings of this study underscore financial gains firms can obtain by promoting occupational safety measures in their organizations.Originality/valueThese issues are important because they can help policymakers understand the pressures companies face in terms of occupational safety and financial performance sustainability.

Abstract: In modern conditions, improving the working conditions of the working population is a priority area of activity in the field of occupational safety and health. The purpose of the research was to study the gender characteristics of occupational pathology in the Republic of Bashkortostan in 2000-2019. Materials and methods. The analysis of the structure of occupational pathology and statistical processing using the Microsoft Excel application software package was carried out. Results. The performed study demonstrated the presence of pronounced features of working conditions and occupational pathology in men and women. Men are more likely than women to work in harmful working conditions with exposed to noise factor, general and local vibration, increased severity and intensity of the labor process, and their combined effect. Conclusion. Attention should be paid to the development of sanitary and hygienic measures aimed at eliminating the causes of occupational pathology or its risk.
