Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are not only criteria of making test items for students, they also have to be implemented in daily basis especially in the teaching and learning process. Students can use the skills when they are familiar with them. In order to make the students familiar with the use of HOTS in the classroom, the researcher assimilates critical discourse analysis (CDA) and debating technique to foster the students’ ability in using their HOT skills. The use of the skills is seen from the activities of analyzing, evaluating, and creating that are done through the implementation of CDA and debate technique. Technology is also used here since the students have to enrich their knowledge on the motion debated by searching some relevant issues online. The sample of the research is 32 students of the fourth semester who are studying speaking skill in the English Education Study Program of Pakuan University. The research shows that the assimilation of CDA and debate technique can make the students familiar with the use of higher order thinking skills which are analyzing, evaluating, and creating. This paper suggests that teachers should use the assimilation to foster students’ use of HOTS.

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are essential skills for prospective teachers in the 21st  century. HOTS in the cognitive domain includes the ability in analyzing (C4), evaluating (C5), and creating (C6). In the process of mastering HOTS, one must know first what level of thinking skills he/she has. Therefore, this study aims to measure the achievement of the cognitive thinking skills of students of the Physics Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Samawa. The measurement used test instrument in the form of essay test, then the results of the thinking skills achievement for each cognitive domain of students divided into three categories (low, medium and high). The result of  the student’s achievement of the cognitive thinking skills  obtained by students were in low category of 55%, the medium category of 11%, and 34% in the high category for mastering lower-order thinking skills (LOTS), while for HOTS, 100% was in low category and it can be concluded that the achievement of students' cognitive thinking skills is still in lower-order thinking skills.

Higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) are needed to determine the student's ability to construct an answer. In this study, researchers analyzed the higher-order thinking skills of students of the Mathematics Education Study Program in constructing one of the test answers, namely constructing a binary representation of real numbers in the Introduction to Real Analysis course. Fifty-two students taking the Introduction to Real Analysis course in the odd semester 2020/2021 are the subjects of this research. Data was collected using a test that was analyzed based on the indicator of higher-order thinking ability created (C6). It was revealed that the students' higher-order thinking skills were in the sufficient category. This means that most students have not been able to construct and analyze information into the right strategy. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for the lecture process where students are familiarized with giving HOTS-oriented questions during exams and practice questions for lectures to help develop higher-order thinking skills.Keywords: Bloom's taxonomy-C6; higher order thinking skill; binary representation Kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi diperlukan untuk mengetahui kemampuan mahasiswa mengkonstruksi suatu jawaban. Pada studi ini, peneliti menganalisis kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika dalam mengkonstruksi salah satu jawaban tes yaitu mengkonstruksi representasi biner bilangan real pada mata kuliah Pengantar Analisis Real. Lima puluh dua mahasiswa yang sedang mengambil mata kuliah Pengantar Analisis Real pada semester ganjil 2020/2021 sebagai subjek penelitian ini. Data dikumpulkan dengan tes yang dianalisis berdasarkan indikator kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi create (C6). Terungkap bahwa kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi mahasiswa berada pada kategori cukup. Ini berarti sebagian besar mahasiswa belum mampu mengkonstruksi dan menganalisis informasi menjadi strategi yang tepat. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi acuan untuk proses perkuliahan dimana mahasiswa dibiasakan dengan pemberian soal yang berorientasi HOTS baik itu pada saat ujian maupun latihan-latihan soal perkuliahan untuk membantu mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi.Kata Kunci:  taksonomi Bloom-C6; kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi; representasi biner

This research based on the problems of the learning system in Indonesia which a national and international scale. At this time learning must be oriented in Industrial Era 4.0 and the educational paradigm must be change in systems thinking to the top level of Bloom revised taxonomy. The researchers analyzed how to apply using Reflective Metacognitive Learning (RML) model and integrated Garrison, Anderson, and Archer model to achieve Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of KKNI Curriculum at Institut Ilmu AL Qur’an Jakarta in Islamic study program. This research based on a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis method. The data was obtained from the fifth semester students of Islamic Education Program of Institut Ilmu Al-Quran (IIQ) Jakarta and from all relevant sources such as interviews, observations, and documentations. The findings showed that the application of the Reflective-Metacognitive Learning (RML) model integrated with the Garrison, Anderson, and Archer model was found in the four critical thinking skills of (IIQ) Jakarta students in learning, for instance: (1) students are quick to respond to events (trigger event), (2) students are more able to explore (exploration) (3) students can integrate knowledge into the context of learning (integration) and (4) then students propose (resolution). It was important that the application of these two models can improve the learning process and level of thinking of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) metacognitive levels. பேராக் மாநிலத்தில் தைப்பிங் மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள ஓர் இடைநிலைப்பள்ளியில் திருக்குறள் கற்றலின் வழி படிவம் 2 மாணவர்களின் உயர்நிலைச் சிந்தனைத் திறனை மேம்படுத்தும் முயற்சியில் ஆய்வு மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட 10 மாணவர்கள் இந்த ஆய்வில் உட்படுத்தப்பட்டனர். திருக்குறளில் மாணவர்களின் ஆளுமையைக் கண்டறிய அந்த இடைநிலைப்பள்ளியின் தமிழாசிரியரிடம் நேர்காணல் நடத்தப்பட்டது. மாணவர்களின் உயர்நிலைச் சிந்தனைத் திறனை மேம்படுத்த படிவம் 1 மற்றும் படிவம் 2-இல் வரையறுக்கப்பட்ட ஆறு திருக்குறள்கள் தேர்தெடுக்கப்பட்டன. தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட திருக்குறள்கள் யாவும் சீரமைக்கப்பட்ட புளூமின் அறிவுசார் முறைப்பாட்டியலின் துணைக்கொண்டு பலதரப்பட கேள்விகள் தயாரிக்கப்பட்டது. ஆறு வாரத் திருக்குறள் வகுப்பிற்குப் பின் இக்கேள்விகள் யாவும் மாணவர்களுக்கு வழங்கப்பட்டன. கேள்விக்கான பதில்களிலிருந்து மாணவர்களின் உயர்நிலைச் சிந்தனைத் திறனில் ஏற்பட்ட மாற்றங்கள் கண்டறியப்பட்டது. ஆய்வின் முடிவாக, முறையான திருக்குறள் கற்றலின் வழி மாணவர்களின் உயர்நிலைச் சிந்தனைத் திறனை மேம்படுத்த முடியும் என்பது உறுதிச் செய்யப்பட்டது. (This study has been conducted with the purpose of improving the level of HOTS (Higher order thinking skills) of Form 2 students through learning Thirukkural. For this study, the Thirukkural, a well-known literary work of Tamil Language was taken. Thus, this research was carried out in a secondary school which is located at Taiping, Perak. The research was carried out under the design of action research. The sample of this study consisted of ten Form 2 students. Besides that, a teacher also interviewed in order to know the students' personality in learning Thirukkural. In this research, the learning process of Thirukkural approach was implemented for 6 weeks. There are 6 couplets of Thirukkural selected according to the syllabus of Form 1 and Form 2. This six couplets of Thirukkural used to test the level of HOTS. The questions were created based on Thirukkural, according to Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. The data of the study was collected through pre-test, the questions asked in Thirukkural classes and post-test via qualitative and quantitative data collection tools. The findings obtained through qualitative and quantitative data collections showed that the level of HOTS through learning Thirukkural among Form 2 students has improved.)

Karya ini menunjukkan rancangan soal HOTS (higher-order thinking skills, keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi) untuk mata pelajaran Akidah-Akhlak kelas 4 Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. Akidah-Akhlak di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah merupakan salah satu mata pelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) yang mempelajari tentang rukun iman yang dikaitkan dengan pengenalan dan penghayatan terhadap al-asmā’ al-ḥusnā, serta perekaan suasana keteladanan dan pembiasaan dalam mengamalkan al-akhlāq al-karīmah dan al-adāb al-Islamī melalui unjuk kerja dan cara mengamalkannya dalam keseharian. Hasil (outcomes) pembelajaran Akidah-Akhlak diharapkan memiliki peran dalam memberi motivasi kepada murid untuk mempraktikkan al-akhlāq al-karīmah dan al-adāb al-Islamī dalam keseharian sebagai wujud īmān kepada Allōh, para malāikat-Nya, seluruh kitab- Nya, semua rosūl dan nabī-Nya, hari akhir, serta qodō’ dan qodar dari-Nya. Ruang lingkup soal yang dirancang mencakup pembelajaran kelas 4 yang terbatas untuk Kompetensi Dasar (KD) Pengetahuan 1.1; 1.2; dan 1.3; serta Keterampilan 2.1; 2.2; dan 2.3.

<div><p class="StyleABSTRAKenCambria">The integration of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in language learning assessments has become a crucial issue in 21st-century learning. However, not many teachers are aware of the need to incorporate HOTS in assessments due to their insufficient knowledge and the absence of good examples. Further, there is not much research and literature on HOTS-based formative assessment that can be used as references. This research aims to fill the existing gap by providing a model of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS)-based formative assessments for English learning, especially in junior high schools. By employing research and development design, this research describes the validation of the assessment model. The proposed model of assessment may be used as a prototype for assessing language learning.</p></div><p> </p>
