Smartphones have become an essential part of students daily lives. Students use smartphones for various activities. Through smartphones, students can access various service sites that provide material resources such as scientific journals, scientific articles, ebooks, and others. This article aims to explain the relationship between the use of smartphones and students interest in reading books. In this research, the book in question is an ebook. The quantitative survey method was used in this study. The target of this research is students of class XII at VHS Negeri 1 Ciamis with a sample size taken 42% of the total number of 557 students, that is 233 people. The researcher used Kendalls Tau correlation test as a data analysis method. The correlation value of 0.063 and the significance value of 0.314 in this research results indicate that there is no significant relationship between the variables. The findings of this study show that there is a positive relationship between students interest in reading books and their use of smartphones, but the relationship between the two variables is very weak and insignificant at the 0.05 level, so the relationship cannot be generalized. This means that students rarely use smartphones to access ebooks but to use them for other purposes instead

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are not only criteria of making test items for students, they also have to be implemented in daily basis especially in the teaching and learning process. Students can use the skills when they are familiar with them. In order to make the students familiar with the use of HOTS in the classroom, the researcher assimilates critical discourse analysis (CDA) and debating technique to foster the students’ ability in using their HOT skills. The use of the skills is seen from the activities of analyzing, evaluating, and creating that are done through the implementation of CDA and debate technique. Technology is also used here since the students have to enrich their knowledge on the motion debated by searching some relevant issues online. The sample of the research is 32 students of the fourth semester who are studying speaking skill in the English Education Study Program of Pakuan University. The research shows that the assimilation of CDA and debate technique can make the students familiar with the use of higher order thinking skills which are analyzing, evaluating, and creating. This paper suggests that teachers should use the assimilation to foster students’ use of HOTS.

Empathy (Burns and Lesseig, 2017) is a skill that is rarely discussed in planning mathematics lessons. The objective of this research is to initiate and explore how mathematics learning can develop empathy skills to students using STEAM based project. This research use qualitative method, in which the observation was executed when students were developing until launching the application prototype to a limited audience. The application created with Google Sheets was called Your Energy Counter, intended to count the energy gathered from the food consumed by the user. This research revealed how empathy was formed during the project execution and how students are able to reflect on themselves being empathetic to others during mathematics lessons.

Learning styles can make students learn easily, fun, meaningfully that will improve their learning outcomes. This study aimed to determine the correlation between learning styles and student’s learning outcomes in online learning about structure and function of plant. The correlation test method was used and samples were chosen using simple random sampling, consisting of 68 students in class VIII SMPN 2 Pangkalpinang. The data were collected using interview, questionnaire, documentation methods, and analyzed by Pearson product moment correlation test. The results showed that about 72% students in class VIII SMPN 2 Pangkalpinang tended to have a visual learning style and 75% with completed learning-outcomes. The correlation test indicated that there was no significant relationship between learning styles and their learning outcomes, by evidence and determination value of 0.111 more than 0.05 and 3.8% simultaneously. There is no correlation between learning styles and learning outcomes, presumably because learning styles only contribute 3.8% in which other 96.2% were determined by other factors such as teacher motivation and teaching strategies. However, although there is no correlation, learning styles still contribute to student’s learning success. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct further research related to other factors that may affect student learning outcomes.

This study aims to integrate Cloves as an identity flora in North Maluku in the implementation of an ethnopedagogic aproach at elementary schools in Ternate. This study uses a qualitative approach with a mixed method of research instruments consisting of observation sheets and questionnaires. Data analysis technique with concurrent triangulation strategy. The results showed that the ethnopedagogical approach implemented through learning activities using cloves as a spice study object in North Maluku was an effective alternative to local wisdom-based learning applied in elementary schools in Ternate city. Through the integration of cloves in an ethnopedagogical approach, it can improve scientific literacy skills and students' learning motivation. The Influence of Learning Discipline on Students Independent Learning. Primary School Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pakuan University, Bogor 2020. This research is a quantitative study with a causal approach. This study aims to determine the effect of learning discipline on the learning independence of fifth grade students at Gunung Gede State Elementary School, North Bogor District, Bogor City. The population of this study was 117 students with a total sample of 54 students. This research was conducted in the even semester of the 2019/2020 school year. The results of the study show that the influence of learning discipline on student learning independence is shown by statistical analysis that shows produce a correlation coefficient (rxy) of 0.38. This shows that there is an influence between learning discipline on student learning independence, while the coefficient of determination (r2) of 0.14 or 14%. The remaining 86% is determined by another factor. The average student learning independence of 14% is determined by the discipline of learning through the regression equation = 54.93+(0.41X), meaning that each unit increase in the value of learning discipline will cause an increase in student learning independence by 0.41 units. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that there is a positive influence between learning discipline on student learning independence in fifth grade students of Gunung Gede State Elementary School, North Bogor District, Bogor City, Even Semester of the 2019/2020 Academic Year.
