Abstract. The article features the results of the comprehensive examination of an outstanding piece from the Mykhailo Boуchuk school, «Portrait of a Lady» from the NAFAA funds. The research was done by the Associate Professor of the Department of the Technique and Restoration of Artwork of NAFAA, Tetiana Tymchenko, Ph.D, and the Leading Researcher of the Bureau of scientific and technical expertise «ART-LAB» Svitlana Biskulova, Ph.D, in connection with the planned restoration of the artwork. Since 2018, «Portrait of a Lady» has been attributed to Mykola Kasperovych (1885–1938), an outstanding painter, restorer and researcher. The reasoning is provided in the expert conclusion of the Head of the Ukrainian Art Department of the end of 19th — beginning of the 20th century of the National Art Museum of Ukraine Olena Kashuba-Volvach. The article lists the peculiarities of the techniques, technology, condition of the artwork from the NAFAA funds. In particular, it reveals the peculiarities of the preparatory drawing, imitation of the monumental art techniques by means of the easel painting, and individual techniques of working with paints. The paper specifies the time of the portrait creation, which indicates 1923 — probably, the year of the work creation, and the age of the lady from the portrait, 30 years. The technological examination of the portrait in the Bureau of scientific and technical expertise «ART-LAB» confirmed the dating of the work to the period of the 1920s – 1930s. The article clarifies important components of the portrait technology: in particular, it has been found that the ground is chalk-glue and the paints’ medium is casein-oil tempera; among the pigments the zinc white with an admixture of lead white, yellow and red ochre, Ivory black pigment (burnt bone), mixed green pigment (burnt bone and yellow ochre) were identified. The examination revealed the traces of restoration interventions of different times. The paper features a number of considerations regarding further research of Boychukists’ creativity from the point of view of technology.

The aim of the present research is to investigate Lorca’s poem from cultural materialist point of view. To do so, the researcher investigates how culture and social mechanism function in the context in which the poems have been written. Cultural materialism attempts to investigate different aspects of society, art, economy, language, and politics from an external point of view and analyze them to find out how identity and self are shaped accordingly. Cultural materialism is demonstrated in different categories including gender, ethnic studies, postmodernism, postcolonialism, and other fields. Cultural materialism highlights the relation between a work of art and the ideological system in which it has been created. In other words, cultural, social, religious and several other factors must be accounted for while interpreting a work of art. Consequently, how cultural dogma functions within fine arts in order to produce the internal textures is uncovered through cultural materialism. In Lorca’s poems, the contents have symbolic and metaphoric mechanisms which can be interpreted through material analysis.

In the act of acquiring knowledge, as it is in many other fields of life, the ability to use technology has taken the lead in the world of education, as well. Engineering education is one of these areas. The increasing dependence of people on technology is alarming. In this study, it is examined that how students at the Faculty of Engineering evaluate their visual perception change and the point of view to the arts and arts education after they receive plastic arts education at a basic level. Written opinions were gathered from 150 students who took the elective course ‘Plastic Arts Education’ at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Hacettepe University. 14-week syllabus is used in this course, including one theoretical hour and two practical hours each week. This syllabus covers two or three dimensional applied studies, the research and examination of art and its movements, artists, works of art, and exhibition and museum visits. Written findings indicate that students have chosen this course since they were fed up with their theoretical courses, or the workload of courses, and realized they had an interest towards art thinking that it merely and simply requires ability, and they were excited to recognize the difference between ‘look’ and ‘see’. Keywords: Plastic Arts, art education, engineering students, Fine Arts, technology.

Objective: The purpose of this article is to review the definition of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and the sonographic diagnostic assessment of these cases prior to therapy.Materials and Methods: The article addresses the terminology used to refer to the condition and describes the systematic ultrasound assessment of the condition, including the ultrasound diagnosis, the staging of the disease, cervical assessment and pre-operative mapping. Results: From an etymologic and medical point of view, the term ‘fetofetal transfusion’ is more appropriate than ‘TTTS’. However, as the latter, and its attendant acronym TTTS, have been widely adopted in the English language, it is impractical to change at this point. TTTS is defined sonographically in the combined presence of a maximum vertical pocket (MVP) of 8 cm or greater in one sac and 2 cm or less in the other sac, regardless of the gestational age at diagnosis. Staging of the condition using the Quintero staging system is practical, reproducible, and accepted. Transvaginal cervical length assessment should be an integral part of the ultrasound evaluation. Pre-operative mapping to anticipate the location of the placental vascular anastomoses and avoid injuring the dividing membrane is also discussed. Conclusions: The term ‘TTTS’ can continue to be used in the English medical literature. The condition can be diagnosed and assessed following a systematic ultrasound methodology. The use of such ultrasound methodology breaks the examination into a distinct set of components, assuring a comprehensive examination and proper communication among caregivers.

In 1953, Ramón Vázquez Molezún received the National Architecture Prize for his Contemporary Art Museum project. It was his second award in little more than two years, after receiving the First Hispanic-American Biennial Prize for his Open-air theatre; tribute to Gaudi. Paradoxically, thanks to these academic works made during his stay as a pensioner at the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Molezún became, without having built any construction yet, a model for both architects and architecture students of our country. The Contemporary Art Museum was, at the time, a key project in the progression of Molezun’s career, and one of the most influential works among his colleagues. First of all, this article studies the context of this museum, of the concept drawn by Ramón Vázquez Molezún without any intention of building it, trying to uncover the keys of its essence. Gaudi and Wright allusions, as well as his travels around Europe, are mandatory stops. Secondly, the article tries to analyze in what measure this project, a museum made muse, could have been an inspiration for a great number of built projects, both Molezún’s and others.

About shore-walks and other idle amusements The author, who is a sculptor and the leader of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bergen, Norway, looks at the art museum with mixed feelings. The works of art which have attained the status of museum objects have been salvaged from the relentless flow of time. But, alas, many of them are doomed to the store-room or cellar.
