As an integral part of patient care, nursing is required to constantly adapt to changes in the healthcare system, as well as the wider financial and societal environment. Among the key factors driving these changes is the aging of population. Combined with an existing shortage of nursing and caregiving professionals, accommodating for the patients and elderly needs within hospitals, elderly-care facilities and at a home setting, becomes a societal challenge. Amongst the technological solutions that have evolved in response to these developments, nursing and assistive robotics claim a pivotal role. The objective of the present study is to provide an overview of today's landscape in nursing and assistive robotics, highlighting the benefits associated with adopting such solutions in standard clinical practice. At the same time, to identify existing challenges and limitations that essentially outline the area's future directions. Beyond technological innovation, the manuscript also investigates the end-users' angle, being a crucial parameter in the success of robotics solutions operating within a healthcare environment. In this direction, the results of a survey designed to capture the nursing professionals' perspective toward more informed robotics design and development are presented.

Abstract Background Residents of Long-Term Care Facilities (LTCFs) represent a major share of COVID-19 deaths worldwide. Measuring the vaccine effectiveness among the most vulnerable in these settings is essential to monitor and improve mitigation strategies. Methods We evaluate the early effect of the administration of BNT162b2-mRNA vaccine to individuals older than 64 years residing in LTCFs in Catalonia, Spain. We monitor all the SARS-CoV-2 documented infections and deaths among LTCFs residents once more than 70% of them were fully vaccinated (February–March 2021). We develop a modeling framework based on the relationship between community and LTCFs transmission during the pre-vaccination period (July–December 2020). We compute the total reduction in SARS-CoV-2 documented infections and deaths among residents of LTCFs over time, as well as the reduction in the detected transmission for all the LTCFs. We compare the true observations with the counterfactual predictions. Results We estimate that once more than 70% of the LTCFs population are fully vaccinated, 74% (58–81%, 90% CI) of COVID-19 deaths and 75% (36–86%, 90% CI) of all expected documented infections among LTCFs residents are prevented. Further, detectable transmission among LTCFs residents is reduced up to 90% (76–93%, 90% CI) relative to that expected given transmission in the community. Conclusions Our findings provide evidence that high-coverage vaccination is the most effective intervention to prevent SARS-CoV-2 transmission and death among LTCFs residents. Widespread vaccination could be a feasible avenue to control the COVID-19 pandemic conditional on key factors such as vaccine escape, roll out and coverage.

The growing elderly population indicated a shift in cultural context in Malaysia and the needs for elderly care facilities. This paper looks at the cultural sustainability issues and Islamic perspectives requirements through a review on the recommendations outlined in the Quran and Hadiths; surveys and case studies on the available elderly care facilities in Malaysia. The results indicated the perception of the respondents on the idea of having elderly care for Muslim community and also the preferred type of care facilities. Objetivo: Investigar os principais fatores que interferem na saúde dos profissionais de enfermagem e as NR’s que regulamentam este trabalhador, com a finalidade de fomentar a importância do cumprimento à legislação vigente e a necessidade de conscientização ambiental preventiva frente aos profissionais da área como sendo fundamental para a sustentabilidade da saúde, pois o cuidar implica em primeiramente cuidar-se. Métodos: Revisão bibliográfica, análise crítica e meticulosa. Resultados: É preciso um suporte institucional que possibilite uma política de recursos humanos que contemple a saúde do trabalhador em sua totalidade, enfocando a qualidade de vida e o cuidado dos trabalhadores no contexto biopsicossocial. Conclusão: O cuidado com a saúde do profissional de enfermagem é responsabilidade da União, Estados e Municípios, mas isto não exclui o dever do próprio trabalhador em cuida-se e nem das instituições de zelarem pelo profissional. Abstract In this paper, we highlight promising technologies in each phase of a robotic neurosurgery operation, and identify key factors affecting how quickly these technologies will mature into products in the operating room. We focus on specific technology trends in image-guided cranial and spinal procedures, including advances in imaging, machine learning, robotics, and novel interfaces. For each technology, we discuss the required effort to overcome safety or implementation challenges, as well as identifying example regulatory approved products in related fields for comparison. The goal is to provide a roadmap for clinicians as to which robotic and automation technologies are in the developmental pipeline, and which ones are likely to impact their practice sooner, rather than later.
