This study evaluated a method of applying color temperature convertible headlamps to improve driving safety in adverse weather conditions such as fog and rain during night driving. The concept of color temperature convertible headlamps is to improve the driver’s visibility by driving with a color temperature of 6000 K on a clear night and switching to a color temperature of 3000 K with better light transmittance at night in adverse weather. Through this study, a method for evaluating the night visibility related to such color temperature convertible headlamps under bad weather at night was suggested. To this end, a method of using a facility that can implement weather conditions such as fog and rain was proposed, and evaluation conditions according to the climatic conditions and the distance of pedestrian targets were set and actual tests were conducted.

The article examines the impact of adverse weather conditions and astronomical occurrences on the outcome of the selected medieval military campaigns and pitch battles. Unpredictability of weather was an important factor in medieval warfare: unexpected wind, rain, snow, heat or day-to-night temperature fluctuations could influence a military operation in a significant way. As medieval chronicles recorded, troops often suffered from famine as a result of excessive rains, droughts or adverse winds which prevented supplies from being delivered by sea. Apart from causing fatigue and exhaustion bad weather contributed to disease outbreaks and equipment damage. People were weakened physically and psychologically which reduced their fighting ability.

It is a well-known fact that the 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster caused the escort towing of laden tankers in many coastal areas of the world to become compulsory. In order to implement a new type of escort towing, specially designed to be employed in very adverse weather conditions, considerable changes in the hull form of escort tugs had to be made to improve their stability and performance. Since traditional winch and ropes technologies were only effective in calm waters, tugs had to be fitted with new devices. These improvements allowed the remodeled tugs to counterbalance the strong forces generated by the maneuvers in open waters. The aim of this paper is to perform a comprehensive literature review of the new high-performance automatic dynamic winches. Furthermore, a thorough analysis of the best available technologies regarding towline, essential to properly exploit the new winches, will be carried out. Through this review, the way in which the escort towing industry has faced this technological challenge is shown.
